John Boyd Thacher State Park, is situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. Even as it safeguards six miles of limestone cliff-face, rock-strewn slopes, woodland and open fields, the park provides a marvelous panorama of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys and the Adirondack and Green Mountains. The park has volleyball courts, playgrounds, ball fields and numerous picnic areas with nine reservable shelters. Interpretive programs are offered year-round, including guided tours of the famous Indian Ladder Trail. There are over 25 additional miles of trails for summer hiking and mountain biking, and winter cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling.
Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. π
Well Happy June, first full week of pseudo summer. I am glad session is over and things should be quiet for the next few weeks hopefully, and I can get out of town.
Partly cloudy and 55 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. β Calm wind. The dew point is 48 degrees.
I was running late, π and forgot my lunch but I caught the express bus literally running to the bus stop. π Actually made good enough time that I had a minute or two but today for once the bus was on time. But I caught it and then had time to do laps on the Plaza before work.
I am scheduled for Thursday to have my oil changed and tires rotated on Big Red. π» This will be good to do before the summer driving season gets underway. I thought about changing the transfer case fluid, and the spark plugs but I think I will wait on that — I did the transfer case and transmission fluid at 50k, and I’m just barely at 100k now. I don’t do all that much hard driving these days. Heck, I don’t do that many miles with gas prices what they are. I don’t bake my transaxle from towing, and with the rust on the tow bar at this point I doubt I would want to tow anything with my truck at this point.
It would be nice to get out of town this weekend, π but I think the following weekend might be nicer and that’s a three day weekend that I could extend out additional days by taking off Thursday or Friday the next week. Each weekend that comes and goes means we get farther from black fly season π , water temperatures get warmer, π‘ and gas is saved. β½
That said, I might go to the Gas Up in Berne this weekend π depending on the weather. Might be nice on Saturday for that. I could even do an overnight somewhere in the woods, although maybe I’d want to use the tent rather then just the hammock this time of year with the mosquitos which certainly seem like they biting a lot even not in black fly country.
Really not much humidity, dry and clear. More clouds tomorrow though. Then more clouds and rain showers for the second half of the week. The days are getting really long now, when you look at that part of the chart below.

I think you might say that summer has finally arrived. Not really the oppressive heat, indeed this weekend is pretty cool but nice, but definitely the longer days. Best to get out and enjoy them before they are done, as the daylight falls before the temperature does every year.
Partly sunny and 58 degrees in Delmar. π There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. π.
I was out for my walk at 7:30 AM this morning. πΆββοΈ Seems like it’s going to be another real nice late spring day, with lots of sun though more clouds are starting to push in. Not too hot or too cold, though in the early hours of the morning it was a bit colder.
Slowly but surely I’m recovering from the sleep deprivation from last week. π Slept into 7:30 AM this morning, which is real late for me, and then went for my walk. I still feel a bit hazy and frizzled from the week that was, but at least I don’t have that bursting headache or complete confusion that I was suffering from yesterday after 23 hours awake. π€―
Today I have am going out to the folks house for Sunday dinner ππ² and then maybe for a Sunday evening π hike up Bennett Hill. Then try to get to bed π early because I still don’t feel particularly great after the week that was. I still can’t believe how many absurd hours I worked last week. You can understand why I’m seriously considering my options next year.
The remainder of the weekend should be quite beautiful π
I am definitely enjoying my walk out to Five Rivers and will enjoy sitting out back tonight, although I do want to get to bed early, as I want to continue recovering from my extreme sleep deprivation. Tomorrow I wouldn’t mind doing some hiking, and I would do some fishing but my license apparently is expired so that will have to wait. Next weekend doesn’t look particularly nice at this point, but I do plan to get my truck tires rotated and oil changed this week.

I tell you, the past 100 hours or so have been a living hell, with just work and sleep deprivation kicking in so badly by this morning. I finally got to get to bed a little after 8 AM after being up for 23 hours, and got several hours of sleep today, although I don’t want to sleep all afternoon as my hope is to get to bed by 9 PM or so and try to get back to normal sleep schedule.
Mostly sunny and 78 degrees at the Delmar, NY. π Breezy, οΈ16 mph breeze from the west-northwest π¬ . The dew point is 44 degrees.
After getting home and sleeping for five hours or so π I woke up and literally felt my head was exploding. π€― It was a wicked headache from all the severe sleep deprivation and hours worked, but this afternoon I feel like I am recovering from all those hours worked. π And of course I couldn’t find any aspirin to address it. Maybe I could have gotten a few minutes of sleep eye at my desk last night, but I was afraid I would miss a phone call or email dozing off at the desk. π΄
To describe how sick I felt for a while π« really is hard to put in words. But after getting some more sleep, taking a cold shower πΏ as my water heater is still off, as I shut it off during the heat wave earlier in the week — and having a good lunch, I am feeling a lot better now. The sleep deprivation when it caught up hit so hard, I though for a while I was going to die or had actually done something really bad for my health. But I think that’s behind me.
I am heading out to Five Rivers now for an evening walk, π¦ and will hang out there until maybe 7:30 PM or so and then hike along Meads Lane and then back home, trying to make up for some of the steps missed over the past week πΆβοΈIt is such a beautiful day, and I hate to waste a weekend sleeping and feeling dead π but it was such a rough week at work — get to work at nine each day, get home at 11:30 PM, 12:30 PM, 3:30 AM and 8:30 AM either the next day or close to it. I am sure I now have a ton of comp time that helps.
I ended up catching the bus home each evening and driving in π ΏοΈ as I didn’t want to have to figure out the whole Uber thing and never knew how later I would be in the office, although each night it was long past the last bus of the night. π I was able to give one of my colleagues who lives in Delmar a ride back home each night, which having someone else in the truck helped keep me awake on my drive home. Just having somebody in the car when your driving drowsy can keep you in the lane and noticing the colors of the traffic lights. π¦
I seriously thought about just taking the bus home this morning, but the nearest bus to Delmar would have been Morton Avenue, due to the routes being re-routed during the Women’s Run Downtown. πβοΈ I was able to find unrestricted parking on Dove Street, although by the time I left in the morning, the street was closed, so I ended up having to make a three-point turn, drive around the barricade, then sneak down through Sheridan Avenue to get home. Plus for a while, I was thinking it would be a relatively quick night with session, ending around midnight or possibly earlier.
I have very mixed feelings about Chris Jacobs getting booted out of Congress over his position on gun control π«
For one, I think it’s good that the Republican base and the good hard-working conservative country folk in the Southern Tier are holding their elected officials accountable, and are standing up for their rights. For too long, many of the leftists have thought they can trample on our constitutional rights, allowing the state to seize firearms and personal property with little due cause or recourse, leaving ordinary citizens in fear of their government. Too often Republicans and conservatives have had cowardice, unwilling to stand up to media and jackals on the left, rolling over much like too many did in era of McCarthyism.
At same time, I am no fan of moral purity tests — or how the Republican Party has become a party of arbitrary and capricious restrictions on abortion, while the Democrats have become a party calling for arbitrary and capricious on gun owners. It seems like increasingly that the Republican Party is all about arresting and jailing Democrats, while the Democratic Party is about arresting and jailing Republicans by creating laws to target them. The hell of it all is most politicians aren’t likely to go jail, but the police will be using their new found powers from Republicans and Democrats to attack and imprison the colored and poor.
I agree with the many Republicans activists that Chris Jacob had to go. Any politician that threatens fundamental rights should be kicked out of their party, be it Democrat or Republican. People should vote the gun-grabbers out of the Democratic Party and the abortion-banners out of the Republican Parties. And they shouldn’t make their whole office about kowtowing to jackals of the press and popular culture. Politicians don’t have to be at the public-trough, writing laws that hurt ordinary people, they can get jobs in the private sector where they can do things for their community without hurting the American people at large.
A bit breezy on Saturday but still quite nice. I’m hoping come tomorrow I can get back on my plan to get daily steps in and do my walks before and after work. Without session, hopefully it will be easier now. I will probably continue to do the early morning walks, as that’s when it’s coolest, especially when the really hot summer weather is underway.
