John Boyd Thacher State Park, is situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. Even as it safeguards six miles of limestone cliff-face, rock-strewn slopes, woodland and open fields, the park provides a marvelous panorama of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys and the Adirondack and Green Mountains. The park has volleyball courts, playgrounds, ball fields and numerous picnic areas with nine reservable shelters. Interpretive programs are offered year-round, including guided tours of the famous Indian Ladder Trail. There are over 25 additional miles of trails for summer hiking and mountain biking, and winter cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling.
It rained a fair bit in the evening and then more during the night. But by morning it cleared out although more rain tomorrow and then during the weekend. Needless to say I’m not heading out of town this weekend.
Partly sunny π and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a west-southwest breeze at 9 mph. π. The dew point is 58 degrees. I don’t with the rain that stopped about two hours ago it feels more humid than that. I wish I hadn’t worn the vest to work.
As to be expected the express bus π isn’t so express at departing the station π with estimates showing it running about fifteen minutes late. At least it’s on the map and I can watch its progress. This changes in a week or two when the school πΈ runs end for the summer.
Because of the rain last night I had to take the local home, which I don’t enjoy even if it’s about as quick compared to the walk πΆ home from the Park and Ride. But the rain cleared up for a while and I returned my remaining books π to the library. I should get some more out but I’ll wait until nextweek before I head out of town.
Tomorrow is the oil π’ change and tire rotation. I’ll take the hub caps off myself tonight and at some point pick up an air filter and and top off the coolant. Truck hasn’t been burning oil like it was years ago but it’s largely because I have the solar and don’t idle it while camping. βΊ in the fall I’ll have the transfer case oil changed and maybe the transmission fluid although I’ve heard mixed messages about doing that after a certain point. With gas prices likely to exceed $5 I doubt I’ll do more than 2,000 miles before the end of summer. β½
I still have a wheel on the truck that clicks when I drive it.β« I think it’s just one of the Rockstar hub caps isn’t perfectly balanced as it changed wheels when I got the new tires put on. Been doing it for at least two years now. Since the alignment and replaced front bushing and maybe tie rods the year before I’ve not noticed any unusual tire wear but I’m planning to rotate them each oil change going forward. I’d rather not burn up a wheel bearing on the road at this point if I can avoid it. Big jacked up truck life.
My hope is to head out of town either Thursday or Friday next week. βΊ Probably Friday morning early that way with Juneteenth observed on Monday I can do the three nights in one campsite day without moving or getting a permit. In the summer heat, ice won’t last more than three nights even with two coolers, one for beverages and one for everything else. Maybe this weekend I can reinflate the tube for floating. β«
Outside of the mama bear and cubs Horseshoe Lake two years ago playing around in woods, I don’t think I’ve seen a bear in Adirondacks in many years but I don’t necessarily go looking for them. Maybe their more common in campgrounds, but in back-country, they are pretty rare. π»
It seems that Rob Astorino drives a Chevy 1500 while Andy Giulani drives a Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins turbo-diesel. It looks like Mr. Giulani’s pickup has a lift-kit and Fuel Off-Road wheels with 35s, but I could not determine the lift-kit from those pictures.
Mr. Giulani probably has commercial plates while Rob Astorino has passenger plates due to weight of the vehicle, although he could also have commercial plates. The big advantage to passenger plates is they can be driven on the parkway. Plus, gasoline is a lot cheaper currently in New York State then diesel.
it’s not expected to last but maybe it’s saving the nicer weather for next week. Only time will tell. Seven day forecasts are pretty good these days but longer forecasts not so much so.
I think will plan to try and get my ten thousand steps by lunch time as I don’t know how wet the evening will be and may have to take the local home. I have library books to return but I’m not sure if that will happen tonight.

A surprisingly nice morning though it’s not expected to last with rain later. But I enjoyed my walk down to the express bus even if it was running 15 minutes late through with school ending shortly that will be less of an issue.
Partly sunny and 65 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. β There is a south breeze at 10 mph. π. The dew point is 50 degrees.
I thought about going for my morning walk πΆ at six but I figured just catch the early express and walk the Plaza before work. Six o’clock walks do get me out earlier though. Maybe when the real summer heat starts to bake everything.
The breeze this morningπ is really nice walking on the Plaza. Of course it helps that it’s a casual day at work, I cut my hair β really short and can wear shorts to work so it feels really nice. Now if I could only. Be doing remote work π» from the shores of Lake Pleasant. Say what you can say about the muzzles π· I did like remote work. It’s stupid that the politicians are stuck in the old ways of doing things.
Big Red’s Service is set for Thursday π which will be good before I head out of town. I am still thinking this weekend won’t be good but I might do the Gas Up on Saturday or Sunday π. Or maybe not depends on the weather and what comes up.
The following week I may take off Thursday and Friday βΊ to head up north, although a lot depends on the weather. The following Monday, Juneteenth is observed so that would be a good weekend to head out of town. I need to reinflate my truck intertube for floating down a lazy river near me.
Probably today is the nicest day of the week π¦οΈ
More showers the second half of the week.
