Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.
I survived another defensive driving class. What did I learn? Driving is awful gory, violent activity that involves the killing and imprisonment of lots of nice children and teenagers. It’s also a leading killer of adults. I’m certain any society with a moral compass that opposes rampant senseless violence would ban motoring.
They didn’t cover in the class that driving causes climate change emissions and that cars are destroying our children’s hope of a livable future. Or that motoring is poisoning our air, literally causing thousands of heart attacks per year and burning the lungs out of our fellow humans. Automobile shredding debris is a leading source of landfill waste. Or is leading to more farm fields and woods being paved over.
Apparently six hours wasn’t enough time to cover such topics.

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! It is currently partly cloudy and 15 degrees in Delmar. Going to be a warm but rainy and cloudy weekend.
Another nice sunny morning, I walked down to the Park and Ride and are taking the express bus downtown. It’s a more scenic and smooth rise downtown. I love looking at downtown from the flyover ramp to the Empire State Plaza.
Today will have increasing clouds, with a high near 35. Light south wind increasing to 6 to 11 mph in the morning.
I have defensive driving today which is no fun, but it’s six hours of misery for 10% off my insurance bill for three years which is nice. The class was only $10 through the company I work for. I could use a refresher in driving techniques. I was told cellphones are strictly prohibited in class, so mine will be totally off and in my bag except for lunch time. I have the full day off so I’ll get home early tonight.
There are 1 month, 25 days until Tax Day. Have you done your taxes? Mine are done and I’m just waiting for my refund. It’s possible it’s already come and I haven’t just noticed.
Today is the 50th day of 2016, for those who keep track of such things. Only ten days until March. Looking forward to spring and it getting nicer.
Happy Birthday to Smoky Robertson of the Motown band, the Miracles. She turns 76 years old today.
Today in the way back machine, 1807 to be exact, Aaron Burr is arrested for the crime of treason. He was later acquitted by trial that was viewed as overly political.
Good evening. Currently clear and 20 degrees in Delmar. Tonight will be clear, with a low around 12. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.
Waxing gibbous moon, setting at 3:08 am. Tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 6:45 am with first light at 6:16 am, which is 2 minutes and 28 seconds earlier then today.
Friday will have increasing clouds, with a high near 36. Light southeast wind becoming south 9 to 14 mph in the morning.
I finally bought a digital TV tuner and antenna. It’s just your run of the mill RCA DTV tuner and a GE amplified antenna. It was easy to set up as my monitor is already HDMI and I ran a wire from the analog audio output to my desktop / camp speakers.
I can already see what a time waster television can be but I also look forward to occasionally watching programs on PBS an the alike. The digital picture is super clear on my 1920×1280 23 inch monitor that I use for map making. I get like 20 channels. I am going to get a USB thumb drive tomorrow, so I can use the tuner to save video. Apparently not only does it have the ability to record video, you can play back the video file on a laptop or play movies off a USB stick. Technology is pretty amazing.
I feel kind of guilty about it all but it’s kind of nice to be able to watch TV at home and it really wasn’t that expensive. It really wasn’t much more than a tank of gas before it got cheap. And if I want to just listen I can shut the monitor off and save 31 watts of power. Oh well.
Went down to the library for a while then out for the evening walk. Between a lunch time walk and walking down to the bus stop this morning, I hiked around 7 miles today. Not half bad for a work day.
Good Happy Thursday morning to you all! Inย my best Cam Edwards impression.ย It is currently sunny and 22 degrees in Delmar. With the windchill, it feels like about 10 degrees, but the bright and sunny conditions really make up for the cold.
Today is going to be a real nice one, except maybe for the breeze. It will be sunny, with a high near 28. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph. Maybe not summer like, but oh are those blue skies delightful this morning.
There are 2 months, 7 days until Arbor Day.ย Spring may be a ways off, but it sure seems spring like this morning, if you are properly dressed that is. If you can’t tell, I’m psyched about the blue skies.
Took the express bus downtown this morning.ย I know usually don’t get up early enough to catch the 8:26 downtown from the Park and Ride, but this morning I was up and it was bright and sunny. I got an early start and started walking the 9/10th mile down to the Park and Ride. Certainly the express bus route is much more scenic and seems like a smoother commute. I may not need to get to work so early, but it does mean I get a jump on the day.
Today in 1970, theย Chicago Seven wereย acquittedย of charges relating to aย conspiracy to disrupt the 1968 Democratic Convention. It’s going to be a very interesting year politically, although hopefully not as violent and otherwise awful as 1968.
Good evening. Currently overcast and 30 degrees in Delmar. Tonight will be scattered snow showers, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 19. West wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
When you look up in the sky to the south, there is a waxing gibbous moon, setting at 2:15 am. Full moon on February 22nd. Tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 6:46 am with first light at 6:18 am, which is 2 minutes and 27 seconds earlier then today. You might actually wake to a sunny morning tomorrow. Better than the depressing weather of late.
Tomorrow will be sunny, with a high near 29. Northwest wind around 10 mph. Going to be cold with the windchill but having a bright and sunny day just seems to lift the spirit. If it has to be cold, I’d prefer it to be sunny. So many cloudy days this winter has been so depressing.
I think the Save the Pine Bush Dinner went well. I got to wear all the hats tonight. I sat up front, I washed dishes, put part of dinner, did a short presentation, and greeted guests. It was a fun evening and a successful dinner.
Other than that it was a pretty busy and long day. A Hump Day for sure. Friday I have defensive driving, which is certain to make for a long day, although I figure I’ll spend many hours doodling during class.
I hope you had a good day. Tomorrow’s Thursday and the weekend ain’t that far away. Sleep well!
Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. It is currently overcast and 33 degrees in Delmar. Today will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Northwest wind 8 to 11 mph. More sun expected for Thursday and Friday.
Sunset tonight is at 5:30 PM for a total of 10 hours and 35 minutes of daylight. Twilight ends at 5:59 PM. Day length is definitely increasing, daylight savings time begins on March 13th.

Tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 6:48 am with first light at 6:20 am, which is 2 minutes and 26 seconds earlier then today. Tomorrow will be partly sunny, with a high near 38. Northwest wind around 8 mph. The sun will be nice, as I know I find these gray days to be so depressing.
Looking ahead to the weekend, mild conditions are expected but cloudy and some rain or snow showers expected for Saturday and more sun for Sunday. I wouldn’t mind going to the Adirondacks but not if it’s going to snow or rain. I just want a really nice weekend to go camping in the Adirondacks. Maybe it won’t happen until spring time at this point. I could use a good campfire in the wilderness though.
Went down to the library for an hour or two then for my evening walk. It was pretty nice weather for the evening walk. It’s been a few days since the evening walk because of the frigid weather and my lack of heavy a winter coat. I like getting out in the evening but I’m not as crazy as years past on doing my evening walk come hell or high water.
