April 13, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. πŸŒƒ There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. πŸƒ. You might say it’s a pleasant evening. Sitting out back drinking 🍻 a leftover beer from Brooklyn or maybe Queens Night. I don’t normally drink anymore but sometimes a cold one is nice out back. Plus it was a free one. Maybe I’ll bring some beer camping this summer but I just don’t drink like I used to getting old.

I went out for my evening walk 🚢 on this most pleasant of nights. Lots of people out walking around and riding bikes. After getting up to 80 degrees in my apartment today it’s cooled down quite a bit and should be excellent sleeping 😴. Spring peepers are out there singing 🎢 their songs. 🐸

I actually didn’t sleep well last night with fear 😱 over stupid things – the recycling center might say my cans were too rusty or not clean enough or that something would go terribly wrong when replacing the brake pedal sensor. I mean I did get a bunch of superglue and dirt stuck on my fingers tacking up the LEDs to the truck cap but most of they cleaned up after a few hours. I also cracked my hands in multiple places replacing the brake switch. πŸ’£ It’s just been so dry lately and my skin is dry. Time to dig out the lotion. πŸ‘

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 43 degrees at 6am. Six degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 1st. May isn’t that far away at this point. Monday is the Taxing Day in which will be the official be midpoint of the month. Definitely leaving the windows open tonight. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon πŸŒ” with 75% illuminated. The moon will set at 3:45 am. The πŸŒ• is on Thursday night with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 6:16 am with the first light at 5:47 am, which is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 39 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have rain likely, mainly after 5pm. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a high of 63 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 25th. Maximum dew point of 47 at 6pm. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.❄

Tomorrow morning early if I am awake and it’s still pretty nice I’ll either hike the rail trail or out to Five Rivers. I actually really like the walk out there. 🌲🌳Then in the afternoon I plan to head into the city to John Wolcott’s house to continue helping him with going through his files πŸ“‚, sorting them and learning other tid bits of Albany history.

I am still debating whether to pack my camping gear β›Ί in the truck tomorrow. I may hold off on that as I noted earlier as I want to glue on the LED strip a little better. I have all week to do that and honestly based on the long range forecast I don’t think I’ll be camping next week. The following week is more likely for camping as the weather will only get better. I probably will take one or two days off the Thursday and Friday after Easter 🐰buy that’s still to be decided.

If the weather is decent for at least one day during the long weekend, I may hike Platte Clove RoadπŸ—» although that’s still to be decided. I kind of want to hike where I’m not in the mud and that’s hard in the spring time. 🌱

In four weeks on May 11 the sun will be setting at 8:06 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 27 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 66 and 49 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 46 degrees. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 1911.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day 🌳 is in 2 weeks, 8 PM Sunset πŸŒ‡ is in 3 weeks, Flower Moon πŸŒ• is in 5 weeks, June 🍹 is in 7 weeks, Average High is 80 πŸ– is in 10 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year πŸ˜… is in 3 months, Ugly Truck Day 🚚 is in 14 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ️Degrees ⛱️️️ is in 19 weeks, Average High 70 πŸŽ‘ is in 23 weeks and Average High is 60 πŸ‚ is in 6 months.

I love cruise control

I am so glad I got the cruise control fully restored ok my truck by replacing the brake switch. I use cruise control virtually non stop, especially in the 30 mph speed zones when traffic is relatively light. Cruise control makes it easy to stay below the speed limit, you reach near speed limit hit a button and it continues on at the same speed until you hit the brake. No worries about the speed gradually speeding up while going along, the computer controls it nicely. Traffic slows, you hit the brake. I love cruise control, I can’t imagine not having it these days with there being so many speed zones.

Amazon Is Aggressively Pursuing Big Oil as It Stalls Out on Clean Energy

In 2014, Amazon announced that it would power its rapidly expanding fleet of data centers with 100 percent renewable energy. Apple, Facebook, and Google made similar pledges two years before that, and pressure from consumers and environmental groups drove Amazon to follow suit. For the next two years, the tech giant made admirable strides toward achieving its goal, bankrolling large solar plants and wind farms. Then, it stopped.

April 13, 2019 Afternoon

Good afternoon! Mostly cloudy and 77 degrees in Westerlo.πŸŒ₯ There is a west-southwest breeze at 14 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 41 degrees. Warm and dry.

I got the brake switch installed in the truck, and the cruise control is working again.πŸš— It wasn’t too hard, the worse part was getting the bolt back in, which I had to fiddle around a bit, because the first time I tried I didn’t have the pressure clip lined up properly. The clip came off easily, as did the sensor. I could have ordered the same part online from Amazon for half the price — but I’m not complaining about a $25 fix to my truck, that took all of a half hour to do — repositing the clip and getting the bolt tightened back up was the only real challenging part.

I am a big fan of cruise control as it’s the best way to control your speed on the open road. You reach the speed limit of in rolling country a few miles below it and you hit a button and it locks πŸ›… you at a legal speed. No need to constantly monitor your speed. It was annoying when the cruise stopped working in the cold, it was even worse now that it’s warmed up and I’m traveling more. I probably have the cruise control on 90% of the time while I drive, especially in speed zones.

I got to the transfer station today, β™» returned all my cans and bottles for recycling. so now they are out of the back of my truck. I replaced the light strip that was failing in the truck cap, with a bright, modern new one. After five years several segments of the LEDs had failed and the waterproofing was yellowing, greatly reducing the output. I do need to get some more super glue, not the runny type to tack it on in a few more locations. Now I should have plenty of light in my truck cap, and it’s free of bottles and cans.

This evening is Sunday dinner at the folks house πŸ” some good burgers on the grill. Should be good.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around April 28th. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.

The sun will set at 7:35 pm with dusk around 8:04 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 63 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 11 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over yesterday.

Tomorrow will have showers likely, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 57 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 12th. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.❄

I haven’t decided if tomorrow I’ll start packing my camping gear β›Ί again or wait until I get glue to fix the LED tape so I don’t spill glue everywhere. πŸ’‘ But I do think I’ll get that packed sometime this week. I’m not sure if I’m heading out of town next weekend, I might instead do that hike up Platte Kill Clove sometime during the Easter Weekend 🐰.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Arbor Day 🌳 when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. That might be the weekend I go to camp. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, cold conditions, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.
