May 4, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 60 degrees in Delmar. ☁ Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees. The skies will clear Monday around 1 am.

Things got messed up today.😣 After riding the exercise bike for a while I was doing some work putting in the proper transistor on the light above my bed πŸ’‘ and I accidentally had a solder bridge and I sent 12 volts somewhere I shouldn’t and had some smoke and I burned up a hc-05 Bluetooth adapter. Fixing the mess I made took all afternoon and I never got things working right. πŸ”₯ I ended up reading πŸ“– for a few hours this basically kids book about myths about wildlife and nature. But it still was interesting.

But I don’t think it matter that much, the weather wasn’t that nice yesterday. ☁ I don’t think I missed much. If I can’t get those HC-05 modules to talk to each other I can always just get some more, they’re inexpensive. I’ll figure it out.πŸ‘

Tonight will have isolated showers before midnight, then a chance of rain, mainly after 3am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 51 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 9pm. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had thunderstorm in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.

While not a terrible evening I skipped my evening walk 🚢 because it got late early. And I was just tired 😴 and dirty because I didn’t bother with a shower 🚿. I probably could have gone for a walk but five minutes after it got nice it got yucky again. Plus I did ride the bike for an hour in the morning and I was kind of into reading the book πŸ“– that I had gotten out of the library on wildlife myths.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon πŸŒ’ with 1% illuminated. The moon will rise at 6:29 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Flower Moon 🌝 is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:45 am with the first light at 5:13 am, which is one minute and 17 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 62 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 24th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 1pm. North wind around 5 mph becoming east in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny in the morning, which became partly cloudy by afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 76 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1900.❄

Doesn’t sound like tomorrow is going to particularly nice either. πŸ’ I’ll probably get to the grocery store 🏬 early in the morning and then do a few things around the apartment before going out to the folks house for dinner.

I am hopeful for better weather next weekend. β›Ί If the weather improves I may head up to Pisceo Powley Road, the southern part open in the spring time. Then do a day trip Saturday to Little Falls. I could change my mind but it would be fun to see that area in early spring.

In four weeks on June 1 the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 27 minutes and 35 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had hot and humid weather, mostly cloudy skies , rain showers and temperatures between 84 and 69 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 52 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1918.

Looking ahead, Flower Moon πŸŒ• is in 2 weeks, June 🍹 is in 4 weeks, Average High is 80 πŸ– is in 7 weeks, Independence Day πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ is in 2 months, Hottest Time of the Year πŸ˜… is in 10 weeks, Ugly Truck Day 🚚 is in 11 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ️Degrees ⛱️️️ is in 16 weeks and Average High 70 πŸŽ‘ is in 20 weeks.

Not a particularly nice weekend for sure. πŸ˜” But summer is still approaching and I’m somewhat hopeful of getting out next weekend, possibly to the lower portion of Piseco-Powley Road and then down to Moss Island. The following weekend is the Lupine Festival and then Memorial Day Weekend for which if the weather is decent I’m leaning towards the East Branch Sacandaga again. But for this weekend I’ve made no real plans.

The sun will set at 8:00 pm with dusk around 8:30 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 63 degrees. Maybe a few breaks of sun? The dew point will be 52 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 5 mph. I had kind of booked this weekend to see my aunt but she wasn’t feeling well so she didn’t come to town. πŸ‘ͺBut I do want to replace the transistor on the light over my bed with the proper type of transistor for more light and less waste. It’s a simple soldering job but I have to pull the light down. πŸ”¬ Maybe do some reading πŸ“– too.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Flower Moon πŸŒ• when the sun will be setting at 8:14 pm with dusk at 8:46 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 73 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 2017.

The Taking Down the Great Replacement

Back when I was in college, one of the reading assignments for a Political Philosophy class I took was to read Timothy McVeigh’s Essay on Hypocrisy. While many of his things were non-sensible or disagreeable, it’s interesting to learn about the ideas behind important people whose actions — rightly or wrongly have a significant consequence on our lives both for better or worse.

I was disappointed to find out that many websites have taken down Brenton Tarrant’s The Great Replacement manifesto, because some find it racist and offensive. It is, but it’s also important for people to understand the ideas behind people who have an impact on our community and lives, for good or for bad. Like it or not — terrorists are some of the most important people in our world today — they force governments and private entities to invest millions in security and deterrence and force private citizens to be inconvenienced by such security measures.

Information can help people make better ideas and choices. It’s worthwhile to consider even racist and arguably bad ideas, because they can help us make better ideas. Understanding where terrorists come from doesn’t recruit or validate their action, but it can make for a more thoughtful and inclusive society, that can work to bring people on the outside back in.
