Good evening! Mostly clear and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. π. The dew point is 52 degrees.
I finally broke down and got groceries this evening. π₯ππ₯ͺI hadn’t bought anything since I got beer π» on vacation on Friday and I was even running low on the most basics at home. Also got toilet π½ paper, which is in stock easily now at much stores. I go through more toilet paper when I camp as the rolls tend to get damp, muddy or damaged and I think I often poop more at camp between the beer and the extra coffee I drink. π©
I was going to shop when I was going to go over to John Wolcott’s house but that didn’t happen because I had this mailer π I was looking at for work and I was puzzling on how to edit some of the language on it. I’ll work on it more in the morning.

I have been really bad about updating the blog lately π» but life has been so busy and non stop ποΈever since vacation came to a close. Maybe I’m finding other things to occupy my time but I’ve sure been busy. Seems werid with the pandemic smoldering all around and things still closed but time flies by. When winter comes I’ll have more time I guess. I also have a lot of emails π§ and map requests I need to catch up on. Still thinking π about camping π this weekend and doing some swimming ππ»ββοΈ if I can find time.
I am a little disappointed with the graniness of the camera πΈ I’m my new smartphone, that said it’s still impressive even if it’s not a fancy iPhone. Technology is getting much better these days. Still thinking about getting a clip on telephoto lens π for my phone because it might be fun.

When a weather station in Death Valley, Calif., registered an astonishing 130 degrees Fahrenheit this week, it got meteorologists' attention.
After all, there's a possibility that this is the highest such temperature ever reliably recorded on Earth — if it's for real.

August 19, 2020 Morning
Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. π« I guess I will have to watch more of Homesteady videos where they milk their camel. π₯ Camel milk is good for children with allergies to dairy apparently. πΈ Next Wednesday is National Dog Day π©. Partly cloudy and 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Calm wind. Almost an autumn like morning. I shouldn’t rush it in Trump’s America πΊπΈ .
It was nice to hike out to Five Rivers π¦ last night but the sun sure sets early now that September is just around the corner. π It’s always a big shock when you come back east and the sun sets so much earlier. It’s nice spending time out in the woods although I miss the wild country of the Finger Lakes.

Solar noon π is at 1:00 pm with sun having an altitude of 60Β° from the due south horizon (-10.9Β° vs. 6/21). The sun isn’t nearly as high in the sky now that the first day of summer is in the distance. A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 7:14 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (282Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (288Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:52 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 8:20 pm, which is one minute and 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent π Moon in the west-northwest (285Β°) at an altitude of 3Β° from the horizon, 229,402 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:58 pm. On this day in 1955, severe flooding across the northeastern portion of our country caused by Hurricane Diane claims 200 lives. π Mostly forgotten now, it devesated the Poconos of Pennsylvania, along with much of Connecticut and Massachusetts as rivers overflowed their banks and dams failed. The East Coast got hit by multiple hurricanes that year, the one on top of the other is what lead to a lot of the flooding. π¦
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. π Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Maximum dew point of 65 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 84. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 5pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.
I am not convinced that Sunday will be really good weather wise β but I’m thinking about taking a weekend out to Schoharie County and going to the Mine Kill Pool. Probably drive out on Sunday as I have a pretty busy day scheduled for Friday with work and lots of video conferences and training that I’m putting on. Certainly will be hot and humid though for the weekend.
