September 23, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 55 degrees. πŸŒ†

A nice night. 🌌 Even a bit warm at least inside. I am getting packed and ready to head to the Adirondacks before work in the morning and will spend the work day in Spectulator. β›Ί Should be a nice colorful autumn weekend πŸ‚ with temperatures in the mid 70s even up north.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 16th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 9pm. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2019, we had rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 27 occurred back in 1963.

Tonight will have a First Quarter πŸŒ“ Moon with 48% illuminated. At 9 PM, the moon was in the south-southwest (213Β°) at an altitude of 17Β° from the horizon, some 232,223 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. πŸš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by March 18th. Buckle up for safety! πŸ’Ί The moon will set in the west-southwest (237Β°) at 11:10 pm. The Hunter 🏹 Moon is on Thursday, October 1. The darkest hour is at 12:48 am, followed by dawn at 6:17 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:45 am in the east (90Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 5 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:22 am with sun in the east (96Β°). Tonight will have 11 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 10th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 5pm. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 2017.

Should be a great day in the Adirondacks. 🌲🌲 🐦 πŸ¦‰ Looking forward to working from that park up by Lake Pleasant and the library up there and then setting up and having a nice campfire β›Ί come evening. It does get dark early this time of year so I should think whether or not I need to buy firewood 🌳 on the way up there, less than 50 miles from my destination.

Dropping off paper πŸ“„ to the recycling dumpsters at the Park and Ride, β™» I saw that the town will be discontinuing the paper recycling service come October. I guess I will have to start going to the transfer station more regularly. It’s probably good to be making more regular trips, I should be recycling more plastics and getting rid of accumulated broken shit. πŸ—‘ Yes, I can probably use some of the paper to start campfires but it seems like so much trash is paper or cardboard. πŸ”₯ 🌲 I can’t wait until I own land out in country and can just burn it or use it for livestock bedding but truth be told, paper doesn’t burn that great and leaves a lot of ash and residue.

In four weeks on October 21 the sun will be setting in the west-southwest (256Β°) at 6:03 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 47 minutes and 7 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 60 and 43 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 58 and 38 degrees. The record high of 81 degrees was set back in 1979.

Looking ahead, Average High is 55 πŸ‚ is in 5 weeks, Day After Election Day πŸ›€ is in 6 weeks, Veterans Day πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ is in 7 weeks, Earliest Sunset of the Year βŒ›οΈ is in 11 weeks, Tea Party Day 🐍 is in 12 weeks, Festivus πŸ– is in 3 months, Bacon Day πŸ₯“ is in 14 weeks, Make Your Dream Come True Day 🏑 is in 16 weeks, Inauguration Day βœ… is in 17 weeks, National Cheese Lovers Day πŸ§€ is in 4 months, Clean Your Computer Day 🧹 is in 20 weeks and Presidents Day πŸ‘΄ is in 21 weeks.

Swastika, New York, Is Keeping Its Name : Live Updates: Protests For Racial Justice : NPR

"Swastika was named by the founders of the area who settled there," said Jon Douglass, Black Brook's supervisor, who was at the meeting but didn't have a vote.

None of the councilors returned a request for comment.

Douglass says the hamlet's name far predates World War II and came from the Sanskrit word meaning well-being. The four-sided geometric character that represents the swastika has been used for thousands of years in Indian religions and seen as a symbol of good luck.

Yates County residents encourage DEC to modify, revoke Greenidge permits over plan to expand bitcoin mining – Fingerlakes1.com

A group of Yates County residents has asked state environmental regulators to modify, suspend or revoke Greenidge Generation’s operating permits to reflect the power plant’s rapidly developing role as an off-the-grid data center that “mines”οΏ½Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency.

The company won the air and water permits in 2017 on the basis of its stated plan to operate as a peaker plant providing backup power to the electric grid.

Recycling Myth of the Month: Those numbered symbols on single-use plastics do not mean ‘you can recycle me’ | Oceana

Three arrows chasing each other in a triangular loop: For decades, the consuming public has recognized this symbol as a promise that “this package can and will be recycled.” However, the perceived promise of those interlocking arrows is a hollow one, as most plastic products – save for those with the numbers one and two on the bottom – are not recycled in any significant amount.

The arrows with numbers that you find on your soda bottle (usually a No. 1 plastic made with PET, or polyethylene terephthalate), your yogurt tub (often a No. 5 made with polypropylene), and other everyday products are part of the Resin Identification Code (RIC) system that was created by and for the plastics industry in 1988. Each number signifies a different category of plastics – of which there are seven in total – and this system was designed to tell recycling facilities what type of resin can be found in any given object. As it turns out, they were never a guarantee that the item in question would be recycled.
