March 13, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west breeze at 15 mph. πŸƒ with gusts up to 25 mph πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨. Honestly, I don’t think it’s that windy out but what do I know. Earlier on I had my windows open and the fresh air was great! Temperatures will drop below freezing at Sunday around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

Such odd times we live in these days. πŸ‘ΎI don’t watch the news πŸ“° as I don’t have a television πŸ“Ί and have little interest in hearing about the hysteria on the radio but truth be told, I’ve scrolled through enough social media to here that most of the public institutions are shutting down in New York. My reaction: buy a case of Corona beer 🍻 and some lyme and maybe head out camping in Madison County or Schoharie County. β›Ί Actually that’s not a done deal as it might be kind of cloudy in Madison County ☁ and I still have a bit of a sinus infecti that I’ve had for two weeks now that don’t want to get worse. You know these days, it’s harder to suck it up and go to work when you’re sinus are plugged or you cough due to choking on water πŸ’¦ and everyone looks at you like you’re a super spreader of Coronavirus.😷

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 33 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 3rd. West wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of -6 occurred back in 1948.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter πŸŒ— Moon with 75% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:56 pm. The Worm πŸ› Moon is on Saturday, March 28. The darkest hour is at 1:06 am, followed by dawn at 6:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:11 am in the east (93Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 54 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 43 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:48 am with sun in the east (99Β°). Tonight will have 12 hours and 7 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 52 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 1st. West wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1946. 17 inches of snow fell back in 2017.❄

It does sound like a nice day but windy πŸƒ. I am also concerned about the roads being pretty sloppy and some ice hanging around. I thought about heading to the Brookfield horse 🐴 camp but despite it looking like there isn’t much snow in Hamilton I’m concerned about snow banks blocking the road. Plus with that wind, even with a fair amount of rain today, I’m a bit worried about sparks. πŸ”₯ You can have a campfire but it has to small and controlled. Small and fire ain’t a thing for me especially if it’s going to be a cold night with the wind and I have a lot of accumulated goodies to burn.

And money πŸ’΅ is tight again and I should be doing more research for Save the Pine Bush tomorrow. Being responsible versus having fun. Plus it’s a lot of work to pack and unpack for one night. And Grace wants to join me with an expert in the Pine Bush on Sunday. 🌲🌲🌲That said, no going to the library this weekend – closed due to Coronavirus hysteria. πŸ“š

In four weeks on April 10 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (282Β°) at 7:32 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 32 minutes and 10 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 32 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 56 and 35 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 1922.

In four weeks, that is the week after Easter 🐰 I’m thinking of taking off a week or at least part of a week for some social distancing, that is a road trip. I’ll be in the wilderness, doubt I’ll see many people. Maybe the Finger Lakes although a spring Adirondacks trip would be fun. I haven’t really decided, a lot depends on how much snow there is up north. The Adirondacks often hold snow into May. Another option is to do a fishing 🎣 and camping trips to Madison and Cortland County.

Looking ahead, Spring 🌷 is in 1 week, Good Friday ✝️ is in 4 weeks, May πŸ•Š is in 7 weeks and 8:30 PM Sunset ️⛱️ is in 12 weeks.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ¦…Only 69 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!πŸ¦…πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Prisons And Jails Worry About Becoming Coronavirus ‘Incubators’ : NPR

For weeks, Greifinger and other corrections health experts have been urging prison administrators to plan for the coronavirus. But when NPR first started asking jails and prisons about preparations, most pointed to existing plans for other infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis.

In Arizona, a spokesperson for the Department of Corrections said employees and inmates were being encouraged to disinfect shared services. But a correctional officer told KJZZ's Jimmy Jenkins nothing new was being done, and said unsanitary conditions threatened the health care of staff and inmates. NPR isn't identifying the officer because speaking to a reporter could cost him his job.

The officer told Jenkins, "A lot of units have issues just getting soap and paper towels stocked in the restrooms." Jenkins says he's also been unable to get details on coronavirus preparation from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, which houses nearly 7,000 people on a daily basis.

Proceeding to the Clear Cut

Heading to the recently clear cut section of Cole Hill, and getting a feel of what fantastic views of East Berne lie below. I have wanted to check this area out, ever since I noticed that this hillside was cut from Irish hill back on my Christmas Day hike up here.

Taken on Sunday March 20, 2011 at Cole Hill State Forest.
