March 2, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Clouds after the rain and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 6 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

It was raining โ˜” out at six o’clock so I’m taking the earlier express bus ๐Ÿš down from the Park and Ride and will walk ๐Ÿšถ inside the Concourse before work. It looks like Saturday is going to be the challenging day to get in my steps especially if it rains most of the day rather than snow. I’ll do my best to keep up my progress though.

Today will rain likely, mainly before 10am. Mostly cloudy โ›… , with a high of 46 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 18th. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest 13 to 18 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. So much for it being a bitterly cold weekend. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1991. 11.9 inches of snow fell back in 2018.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 40.1° from the due south horizon (-30.7° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:08 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (255°). ๐Ÿ“ธ

Walking ๐Ÿšถ inside the the Plaza is fine but I’m hoping for some more sun โ˜€ by afternoon so I can walk outside maybe up to Washington Park ๐Ÿž and get some fresh air. I probably could have walked outside this morning ๐ŸŒ… but it’s always cold and windy ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ on the Plaza whd this morning is just damp from the recent rain.

The sunset is in the west (261°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:46 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 56 seconds with dusk around 6:14 pm, which is one minute and 13 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (104°) at an altitude of 54° from the horizon, 251,768 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:47 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 41 degrees. Breezy, 20 mph breeze โ›… from the west-northwest. Today will have 11 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday was pretty much normal, ๐Ÿคท‍โ™‚๏ธ quiet for a while at work then busy. I’m continuing to read ๐Ÿ“– and study up on machine learning. It’s in some ways a lot more boring ๐Ÿ’ค than you might think but I’m leaning some interesting techniques for classifying data. I did enjoy the sun streaming into my office though in the morning. That won’t be the case today unfortunately.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 25 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 11th. Blustery, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph. In 2022, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1950.

Today in 1989, Twelve European Community nations agree to ban the production of all chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) ๐Ÿ’ข by the end of the century. We’ve moved through a few generations of refrigerants now, with low global warming potential refrigerants the future. Believe it or not back in the day, CFCs were not regularly captured upon disposal, leaking the refrigerants into the atmosphere.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, snow before 10am, then snow showers, possibly mixed with rain between 10am and 1pm, then rain showers likely after 1pm. High near 38. East wind 6 to 11 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 38. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 8 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:20 pm (Daylight Savings Time). Often I’m up in the Adirondacks that weekend but I’m thinking more Cazenovia for Easter Weekend. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 63 and 36 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

March 1, 2023 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Metrological spring of course. ๐ŸŒธ But I expect we will have to wait six or seven weeks before that’s really meaningful in Albany. Especially as they keep promising a cold spring until that’s no longer the case.

It’s March ๐Ÿ—“ a month that often quickly leads to April ๐ŸŒท or do I like to tell myself. In two weeks the morning walk will be a lot more dark assuming that I don’t change when I walk ๐Ÿšถ which may be necessary for a few weeks. But brighter evenings are nice.

Partly clear with a colorful sunrise ๐ŸŒ… around 27 degrees for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ in Delmar. Some snow fog in the air from the moisture from yesterday’s mini snow storm. There is a northwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 6 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I haven’t had pancakes ๐Ÿฅž in a while so I think that’s breakfast today. Shower ๐Ÿšฟ and catch the express bus ๐Ÿš downtown. Rinse and repeat the work thing ๐Ÿข downtown.

Today will have a chance of rain, mainly after 3pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒฅ , with a high of 40 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. Can’t do better than average? Lame. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 2017. 10.7 inches of snow fell back in 2005.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 39.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:07 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (254ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west (261ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:45 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:12 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon in the east-southeast (115ยฐ) at an altitude of 63ยฐ from the horizon, 250,634 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:46 pm. Today will have 11 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow before 8pm, then a chance of rain, snow, and sleet between 8pm and midnight, then a chance of rain and sleet after midnight. Cloudy , with a low of 33 degrees at 8pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. South wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow and sleet accumulation expected. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 9 degrees. The record low of -4 occurred back in 1940. You really don’t have many exceptional cold nights come March as the sun angle is too strong and the ground too warm.

Rain, snow and clouds for the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, rain and snow, mainly before 1pm. High near 35. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

February 28, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Cloudy, damp and 33 degrees for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Calm wind. There are 7 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThe skies will clear around 10 pm.

The dire emergency snow storm ๐ŸŒจ they were talking about on the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ was whatever. I shoveled off my truck and brushed off the snow. The sidewalks were wet. I got my 10,000 or so steps ๐Ÿ‘ฃ and that’s what’s important these days. I’m so close to winning ๐Ÿฅ‡ that badge for 50 days of consecutive 10,000 steps.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow before 8pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a low of 21 degrees at 4am. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around February 27th. Rice ๐Ÿš and broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ for dinner tonight. Simple quick to cook. And healthy though I added a bit of vegetable oil, salt and pepper. And saved the excess for a future meal ๐Ÿด. I figure it’s best to try new things that are inexpensive but healthy.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 66% illuminated. At 7 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (167ยฐ) at an altitude of 74ยฐ from the horizon, some 248,976 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by September 5th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Tuesday, March 7. Getting bigger every night ๐ŸŒƒ.

Tonight will have 12 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over last night.

Been continuing to read ๐Ÿ“– the book I’m reading on machine learning. I just need to find a killer project that I can use machine learning ๐Ÿค–

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒฅ , with a high of 42 degrees at 3pm. February 28, 2023 Morning

Good morning! It’s the dire winter emergency according to the morning news. I mean there is some snow and ice on the secondary roads but the sidewalks are clear and I’m out for my morning walk on this Tuesday. ๐Ÿšถ

Overcast and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜๏ธThere is a east-southeast breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is maybe 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

So I was worried about the snow interfering with my morning walk ๐Ÿ‘ฃ but it stopped early and the sidewalks and roads are pretty much clear locally. Maybe it’s the valley snow shadow they were talking about. Truth is it’s a pretty nice morning, not real cold. But then again the average high for this time of year is 40. Depending on how much more snow we get later and how warm it gets today I could see wet sidewalks by evening and bare by tomorrow morning.

Maybe the express bus ๐Ÿš from Voorheesville will be a bit late ๐Ÿšbut I will get ready and watch it on the map ๐Ÿ—บ from inside and head out when it gets to Slingerlands. I live in the city, what do I care?

Today will snow, mainly before 4pm. ๐ŸŒจ High of 33 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 8th. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. The high last year was 41 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1903. 9.7 inches of snow fell back in 1948.โ„

I had a slice of the corn bread I made up Sunday and some coffee โ˜•. Iron my shirt ๐Ÿ‘š and shower ๐Ÿšฟ and head off to work. ๐Ÿข And do the usual game. Yesterday I made hash browns in the oven from the farmers market potatoes ๐Ÿฅ” with an egg ๐Ÿฅš, some corn ๐ŸŒฝ and cheese ๐Ÿง€.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 39.4ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.5ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:06 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (254ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

High noon

February 27, 2023 Night

Good evening! Clouds but no snow yet and 33 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ„ There is a southeast breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There is an inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThe skies will clear tomorrow around 7 pm after the snow ends.

My thought ๐Ÿ’ญ tonight is the best laid plans don’t always work out. I was so excited that the DVD ๐Ÿ“€ drive enclosure arrived in the mail โœ‰ today but when I opened it up I discovered it was for the wrong type of drive. It was only $11.50 and I can probably use the case for something else I guess.

I was so hoping to get the voter file ๐Ÿ—ณ open that the State Board sent me on a DVD ๐Ÿ“€ – I actually got the DVD to play on the drive installed on my computer but alas like on the work computer had previously confirmed they sent me a DVD that wasn’t properly written. I also discovered that the built in DVD drive drawer on my computer is broken but I did figure out a way to load disks by manually opening the drive and installing it after disabling the other partition in fstab.

I’m not going to go back to the board for the file. ๐Ÿ“‚ It just didn’t work out but I guess I probably wouldn’t have discovered much using machine learning to better understand voting patterns. I don’t know enough about machine learning and my computer isn’t that powerful and 318 EDs really isn’t enough to train things well especially if the districts are so blue in much of the county. Statewide data would be better but that a lot of processing.

I am going to still continue to learn about machine learning ๐Ÿค– aa I have a few books ๐Ÿ“š out of the library and I am going through the Stat Quest video series on YouTube. I’m sure there are many other ways I can use machine learning in statistics and map making. Plus it’s safer, no risk of running into trouble with work or building something with the voter file that isn’t allowed.

Tonight will snow, mainly after 10pm. The snow could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 26 degrees at 4am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 15th. Southeast wind 10 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is l100%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1950.

It’s going to snow, it’s winter. โ˜ƒ Probably not good for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ but I’ll get up at my normal time and do my best to keep moving. If it’s bad out I won’t do it but I’ll at least catch an earlier bus ๐Ÿš in so I’m in bright and early. I’ve had a 40 day run of 10,000 plus steps or 5 plus miles a day but if the weather interrupts my progress it will be but for a day or two.

Tonight will have a First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon with 56% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the southwest (236ยฐ) at an altitude of 65ยฐ from the horizon, some 246,871 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by September 3rd. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Tuesday, March 7. The darkest hour is at 12:09 am, followed by dawn at 6:07 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:36 am in the east (101ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 57 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 35 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:14 am with sun in the east-southeast (107ยฐ). Tonight will have 12 hours and 47 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow, mainly before 4pm. ๐ŸŒจ High of 33 degrees at 1pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 8th. Southeast wind 9 to 14 mph. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 54 and 38 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 50 and 30 degrees. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 1998. Days like that will be so nice but first through the snow storm.

Looking ahead, 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 6 weeks, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 2 months, May ๐Ÿ•Š is in 9 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 14 weeks, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 16 weeks, World Mosquito Day ๐Ÿž is in 25 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 27 weeks, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 28 weeks, 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 29 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 7 months, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 37 weeks, Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 9 months, First Sunday of Advent โœ๏ธ is in 40 weeks, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 42 weeks and Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 43 weeks.

Looking Up

February 27, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Mostly clear ๐ŸŒ„ and a seasonably cold 23 degrees in Delmar, NY for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ. There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 12. Just a reminder that it’s still winter. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

While it’s February for one more morning after today, ๐ŸŒจ the sun is rising and the days getting longer. I guess we are getting snow tomorrow but Big Red is parked until Sunday and hopefully it won’t impact my morning walk come tomorrow. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ But onwards to a new week. I will bring my laptop home tomorrow in case it’s a work from home day due to the snow. I doubt it. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Today will have increasing clouds โ˜€ ๐Ÿ‘‰ โ˜, with a high of 34 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 8th. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1997. 3.6 inches of snow fell back in 2019.โ„

Smells like I have a dead mouse ๐Ÿญ in my apartment. I’ll have to see if I can figure out where it is. I just cleaned out the bucket trap last night so maybe it’s somewhere around there. Kind of chilly inside too – with yesterday’s warm sunny weather in the afternoon I backed the heat down and I felt that when I climbed out from the heated sheets this morning. โ™จ I’m so ready to turn off the heat and have the windows open again. Such days might not be that far off.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 39ยฐ from the due south horizon (-31.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 32 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 11 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over today.

I’m not sure if this is a pay week or not ๐Ÿ’ต but after breakfast ๐Ÿณ it’s off to shower ๐Ÿšฟ iron my shirt ๐Ÿ‘š and then the express downtown. ๐Ÿข Make some money, save for a better tomorrow and keep moving forward. Spring isn’t that far off, within two months at least in the city things will be greening up. ๐ŸŒธ

Tonight will snow, mainly after 9pm. The snow could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒจ Low of 26 degrees at 6am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 15th. Southeast wind 5 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1950.

It will snow or maybe it won’t. โ„ It’s winter for a few more whacks weeks. I think I cracked my skis ๐ŸŽฟ so I’m not sure if I can do much in the way of skiing but at this point I don’t really care. Who knows how much snow will be left come the weekend, it’s March and it won’t last long.

Cool but sunny for the start of the weekend and then more clouds. ๐ŸŒฅ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 34. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees. In like a lion ๐Ÿฆ.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:32 pm with dusk at 8:00 pm (Daylight Savings Time). On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, warm temperatures and temperatures between 74 and 49 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 57 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

22,000 steps or 11 miles today which isn’t too bad. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Been averaging 9 miles walked per day which is pretty good. ๐Ÿ I’ve also added a lot of apples and oranges and other fruits to my diet and keep trying to bolster the amount of vegetables that I’m eating at every meal.
