February 26, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday โ›ช. I like taking a break from the blog on Saturday. Mostly cloudy and 19 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Yesterday was a cold and snowy day. ๐ŸŒจ Not a lot of snow but clouds are and flurries most of the day. I did my usual walk ๐Ÿšถ out Meads Lane and Five Rivers Environmental Education. It was cold at times. And I did some research on machine learning techniques to predict various things. ๐Ÿค–

Today will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 41 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west 11 to 16 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1976. 8.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„

The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 5:03 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (252ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (259ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:41 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:09 pm, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter ๐ŸŒ“ Moon in the south-southwest (203ยฐ) at an altitude of 69ยฐ from the horizon, 244,081 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:42 pm. Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Partly cloudy and 31 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. โ›… Breezy, ๏ธ22 mph breeze from the northwest ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 32 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The current wind chill is 18. There are 3 inches of ice and snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at Sunday around vyv v vga11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Once again I chickened ๐Ÿฅ out and decided to go in early and walk the Concourse with the muzzle on. ๐Ÿ˜ท I did walk down to the Park and Ride and am trying to walk faster so hopefully I can avoid walking outside in the evening. It actually wasn’t too bad down to the Park and but when I first got up boy oh boy ๐Ÿง’ was that wind roaring. Ideally I would have my steps before the end of the work day so I can do them inside but I don’t know if that’s possible. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ I’m thinking of walking down to the library ๐Ÿ“š in the evening if necessary to complete today’s walk program.

Today will be partly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 21 by 5pm. โ˜€ ๐Ÿ’จ Blustery, with a northwest wind 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 74 was set in 2017. 8.0 inches of snow fell back in 1962. โ„

Amazing how fast the fruits ๐Ÿ ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŒ have disappeared from my office ๐Ÿข. Same thing with the frozen ones at home. I don’t know if I’ve actually lost any weight, my scale at home is broke but I feel a lot more full and eat less at dinner which saves money ๐Ÿ’ต and feel less light headed at times.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.9ยฐ from the due south horizon (-33ยฐ vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 21 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 7. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the northwest. Today will have 11 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Exploring the Concourse ๐Ÿข I’ve discovered new places to walk ๐Ÿšถ like the South Swan Tunnel which has an interesting set of photographs ๐Ÿ–ผ of the Empire State Plaza construction ๐Ÿšง and other colorful locations in New York State. I’ve also done the Well of the LOB, Capitol Building and under the Egg. I should think about the forth and fifth floor of the Capitol, if memory serves me right there is an interesting mix of tunnels, stairs and walkways up there. Rainy but mild days I could do the walkway to the Knickerbocker Arena.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 5 degrees at 4am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -4 at 5am; North wind 7 to 16 mph. On that day in 2022, we had cloudy and temperatures between 45 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 45 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

Dusk

February 23, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Freezing rain and Ice pellets and 27 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. ๐ŸŒจ Kind of a mix of slop. There is a north-northeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

I decided to skip my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ in favor of an earlier bus ๐Ÿš downtown and walking the concourse. It’s not expected to last all day but maybe more rain later. โ˜” I will try to do as many steps inside as possible. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 38 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 2017. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1935.โ„

I brought the DVD ๐Ÿ“€ into work that I got from the NYS BOE with the county voter file, ๐Ÿ“‚ and the work computer couldn’t read it. I tried pulling the second hard drive on my laptop and putting the DVD drive in it but that didn’t work with either. I’m frustrated as I had great hope to use that data to build turn out models and help local candidates get the voters out they need to succeed using R Studio and machine learning.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-33.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 33 degrees. There will be a southeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 48 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain or freezing rain, becoming all rain after 10pm, then gradually ending. ๐ŸŒง Low of 31 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 18th. South wind 5 to 13 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Yuck. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 35 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1894.

My thought is that if I walk ๐Ÿšถ early this evening and at lunch I’ll get my steps in but I’m concerned. I’ve been on a roll ๐Ÿฅ lately and I don’t want to break it.

Cloudy and cold for the weekend. ๐Ÿ˜ž Saturday, a chance of snow showers after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 25. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Time for a Cold One

February 22, 2023 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? Comes quicker when Monday’s a holiday, of course. Partly clear and 34 degrees for the morning walk. ๐ŸŒ…There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Another morning stumbling along for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ. I don’t know why I’ve been in such a haze the past few days but I have in the morning. It’s not a bad morning, I thought I slept fairly well ๐Ÿ› and was in bed a little after nine 9โƒฃ though I ended up studying Post GIS and using address ranges to extrapolate address from position for reverse geocoding.

Today will have a chance of rain and snow, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒฅ , with a high of 40 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1997. 14.8 inches of snow fell back in 1893.โ„

Yesterday evening truth be told, ๐Ÿคฎ I wasn’t feeling well but I’m fine this morning as I slowly but surely wake myself up walking ๐Ÿšถ. I’m running a bit late for my morning walk having not got started until 6:20. But today is a breakfast reheat day ๐Ÿฅž so I should be good for time. Worse comes to worse I won’t walk all the way to the Park and Ride and instead catch the express bus somewhere on Elm.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 37.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-33.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:58 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (250ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-southwest (257ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:36 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 58 seconds with dusk around 6:04 pm, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west-southwest (245ยฐ) at an altitude of 26ยฐ from the horizon, 232,663 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:38 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 59 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over today.

Again plan on getting as many steps as possible in early ๐Ÿ‘ฃ As who knows what the era will bring come the evening. Lately they’ve been so pessimistic at the metrological Bureau. But I know they are really sounding the ice alarm โฐ for tonight. Tomorrow might be too icy for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ I’m thinking.

Tonight will rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 3am, then rain or freezing rain between 3am and 4am, then rain and freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet after 4am. โ˜” Low of 32 degrees at 8pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 30th. East wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of around a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible. In 2022, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1972.

Cloudy and cool for the weekend. โ˜๏ธ Saturday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 23. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees. Truth is I didn’t have any plans for the weekend at any rate.

Looking ahead, next Wednesday is March ๐ŸŒจ when the sun will be setting at 5:45 pm with dusk at 6:12 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, snow showers and temperatures between 41 and 17 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2017. I know, I got the notification that my rent check was mailed yesterday. Some day I’ll own my own land ๐Ÿšœ and my tax bill will probably be more than my rent check knowing the tax rules in New York State.

February 21, 2023 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 38 degrees on this Tuesday evening for the walk. ๐ŸŒฅ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. They were talking about rain but I haven’t gotten wet yet. Did rain a bit earlier looking out my office window.

It was a busy day at work ๐Ÿข followed by a busy day of projects at home. But I managed to get in more than 17k steps today. You get the steps in early then there are more opportunities to get steps in later in the day. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers, mixing with snow after 9pm, then gradually ending. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 29llgl degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -08 occurred back in 1963.

I was surprised to open my mail ๐Ÿ“ฎ and see the State Board of Elections sent me the Albany County Voter File on a DVD ๐Ÿ“€. Didn’t charge for it either. I had assumed that it would be a drop box link ๐Ÿ”— to download. Of course it’s a bit of a problem as my computer no longer had a DVD player installed as my other hard drive is there. I didn’t know people used DVDs with bandwidth being so cheap. I feel silly for only requesting just the county file ๐Ÿ“‚ and not the state. But I only really plan to model on county data and help local candidates this year. Next year I’ll get the state file.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon with 4% illuminated. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Tuesday, March 7. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:16 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:45 am in the east-southeast (104ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 30 seconds earlier ggGt porthan yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:24 am with sun in the east-southeast (111ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 4 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Working on another mapping project ๐Ÿ—บ for another local environment group. ๐ŸŒŽ This is kind of a fun project looking at potential routes for a bike ๐Ÿšฒ trail. It’s a little different than another one I’m doing with calculating distance of houses from a local hazardous waste site.โ˜ฃ๏ธ Government databases and some statistical programming has gotten so powerful in recent years.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after 4pm. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒž ๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐ŸŒฅ , with a high of 41 degrees at 12pm. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1997. 14.8 inches of snow fell back in 1893.โ„

This week marks a week until spring ๐ŸŒท though I’m sure it will get cold before then. But who knows it’s been a mild winter. Based on past experiences I don’t think it will get particularly warm out until about two months out from now.

In four weeks on March 21 the sun will be setting in the west (271ยฐ) at 7:09 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 33 minutes and 46 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had sunny and temperatures between 63 and 25 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 47 and 28 degrees. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 1921.

February 21, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly clear and 28 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Calm wind. Things will start to thaw out at around 9 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

This morning is a struggle to get going ๐Ÿ˜ด but I’m rolling along out for my morning walk ๐Ÿšถ. The forecast and everything else is going to make getting the steps in a bit of a challenge each day but I’m moving and will do my best. Always can take an earlier express bus ๐Ÿš in and do the Concourse if needed.

Not a pay week and quiet walking ๐Ÿšถ past the high school ๐Ÿšธ as the schools are on February break. But I would not say it’s February break in the office ๐Ÿข, we are quite busy despite being casual dress. I need my coffee โ˜• just like an addict this morning after cutting back so much in recent weeks to save money and improve health. I kind of fell off the wagon in all ways possible this weekend up in Madison County.

Today will rain and snow likely before 5pm, then rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 39 degrees at 5pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 25th. Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 36.8ยฐ from the due south horizon (-34.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:56 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (250ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-southwest (257ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:35 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 6:03 pm, which is one minute and 17 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡

At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 39 degrees. Not much of a sunset I’ll be probably taking express all the way home. There will be a south breeze at 11 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 56 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over today.

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow before 8pm, then a slight chance of snow between 8pm and 9pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees.

I’m not planning any trips until the time change ๐Ÿ•’ at this point but it’s only three 3โƒฃ weeks away. Two weekends if that’s what you count. I’m ready for winter to fade away as a memory.

Looking ahead, next Tuesday is Average High is 40 โ˜€๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 5:44 pm with dusk at 6:11 pm. Almost seems like looking back with the recent weather. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1903.

Good evening! Partly clear ๐ŸŒƒ and 40 degrees for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ here in Delmar. There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 11 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Memories of Madison County โ›บ and wishing I was still there, but alas I’m back home. If you believed last week’s forecast for tonight, heck even the forecast of this morning it would be rainy and cold tonight and tomorrow and I would have driven home in the rain even today, taking camp down in the rain. But none of that proved to be true.

It was a nice weekend ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฒ hiked 30 miles in the state forest over three days though it was a fraction of the 130 mile trail system but between the two weekends spent there I feel like I’ve seen a lot of state forest. I’ll have to make a map ๐Ÿ—บ of all the trails I explored.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 27 degrees at 2am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 18th. North wind 3 to 7 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 13 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 2015. Not this year though a few weeks back we had that negative 13 day.

Went out and saw the folks ๐Ÿ‘ช and then washed all the traction sand mud off my truck got fruits and vegetables and a few other supplies including a cast iron frying pan ๐Ÿณ, razors and also lighter fluid for the next time I camp in case the wood is wet. After a fun weekend back to eating healthy again though even on my fun weekend I included extra fruits and vegetables.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 1% illuminated. The Worm ๐Ÿ› Moon is on Tuesday, March 7. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:18 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:47 am in the east-southeast (104ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes Sunrise is one minute and 29 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:26 am with sun in the east-southeast (111ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 7 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 2pm, then rain showers. ๐ŸŒง High of 39 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 28th. Light and variable wind becoming south 8 to 13 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. Back to work tomorrow ๐Ÿข after the long weekend. There is a lot going on in the office this week despite not being a session week so it’s best to be back in the office as remote work is but a memory. Would be tough to work remote with the clouds and rain and the limited solar power for the truck at any rate. Better to save vacation time for the summer โ˜€ and nicer weather.
