April 25, 2020 8 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Best spent in the wilderness. Three weeks to Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ. Cows and humans like that. Now drink more milk, it smells like the farm down the road from my place had to dump milk again and spread it on the fields. I do love drinking milk.

Partly cloudy and 43 degrees at the Black Creek Marsh WMA. โ›… Light wind. Stunningly beautiful day, a lot of wildlife to observe today. Finally clearing up after a cloudy start to the morning.

I got up at five AM to drive out to Black Creek Marsh ๐Ÿฆ to watch wildlife and social distance. The marsh is full of wildlife including wood duck, deer, mink, mocking birds, wood pecker, bluejays and a whiper will. Well worthwhile getting up early, the woods is full of sounds ๐Ÿ”Š although I wish there was a bit more sun but it’s clearing.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 62 degrees at 4pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 24th. Light northeast wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 66 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2009. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

Wonderful spring day. For the balance of the beautiful spring day I’m going to hike at Partridge Run ๐Ÿšถ, observe nature, take pictures then come night fall visit another state forest pitch a hammock and spend the night I think. โ›บ It might be cold by morning but I’ll survive and there aren’t a ton of bugs ๐Ÿœ yet.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-10ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:11 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (283ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (289ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:19 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent ๐ŸŒ’ Moon in the west (278ยฐ) at an altitude of 22ยฐ from the horizon, 244,989 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:57 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 58 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 52 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 28th. Light southeast wind. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1972.

I am impressed how nice my sideburns are looking on my face. โ˜บ They’ve grown quite wild and thick, one part redneck one part Captain Kangaroo but a little less silly. Makes me feel like a real man ๐Ÿ‘จ. I did trim them a little bit but not that much. When this period of social distancing ends maybe I’ll change my mind although I doubt I’ll be wearing a suit or tie ๐Ÿ‘”any time soon so it doesn’t matter much.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:45 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 48 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1991.

Canada Lake

April 21, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. At times though, it’s been pretty windy. Temperatures will drop below freezing at midnight. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I worked at home today ๐Ÿก and it was a pretty busy day although the mobile internet super flaky. ๐Ÿ“ถI try to avoid using the work bandwidth as much as possible but it would not have been a nice day to work at Five Rivers or the library. Plus if I use my work laptop rather than my personal one, I don’t have to worry about formatting issues in Microsoft Word. ๐Ÿ“

This evening ๐ŸŒƒ it was pasta for dinner. ๐Ÿฒ Tomorrow I may go to Wally World and the Car Wash with the bandana over my face. Rained hard midday but that doesn’t clean the undercarriage of Big Red ๐Ÿš˜ plus it’s been a week since my last big grocery shop and I’m a bit low on food. I thought some more about camping this weekend but I just was up north last weekend and I think I’ll wait another week or two for things to warm up and get greener. ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒทI guess if it’s a nice enough evening and not super cold I could sit down by the river and work with a fishing pole ๐ŸŽฃ in one hand tomorrow.

Never showered or shaved ๐Ÿšฟ today as there was no Zoom Meeting ๐Ÿ“น or reason to look nice for the world. ๐ŸŒŽ It was cold out at first for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but once I got burning calories I didn’t feel real cold. That wind at times though sure is intense.

I do miss the library not being open for having the kiosks inside to quietly work on my laptop. ๐Ÿ“š While working in my truck on the blog is fine, I used to really enjoy having a block of time at the library to work on my blog using my laptop. ๐Ÿ’ป I know eventually though we will get through the pandemic and the library will reopen but I hate how there is no time line. I just want this to be over, go back to work, ride the bus every day ๐Ÿš and enjoy life in the basement office. ๐Ÿข Some of the protests may be obnoxious but so many of us crave normalcy and our freedoms restored.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 1am. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 28 degrees at 6am. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 23rd. West wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1947.

Tonight will have a New ๐ŸŒš Moon with 1% illuminated. The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Thursday, May 7. The darkest hour is at 12:55 am, followed by dawn at 5:35 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:05 am in the east-northeast (73ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 2 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:43 am with sun in the east (79ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 17 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 39 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 45 degrees at 4pm. 16 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 18th. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1985. 1 inch of snow fell back in 1928.โ„

Sounds like it will be miserably cold with the wind for Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ. But hopefully the sun will be nice for a while although I expect more clouds on Thursday into Friday. โ˜ Just a late spring this year, the werid year of Coronavirus. Eventually the jet steam will push north and it will be like 80 or 90 degrees every day. I’ve heard it’s been that way already down in Missouri, at least on the Farm and Hammer ๐Ÿ”จ cattle farmer channel I like on the YouTube ๐Ÿฎ.

In four weeks on May 19 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (298ยฐ) at 8:15 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 38 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 86 and 49 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 70 and 48 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1989.

Looking ahead, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 2 weeks, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 9 weeks, and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 28 weeks.

 Pattern

April 16, 2020 Night

Good evening! Cloudy and 36 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a west breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today was another real quiet day at work, ๐Ÿ“น the Zoom meeting was called off so I didn’t shower until midday. ๐Ÿšฟ All day I’ve had some diaherea ๐Ÿ’ฉ and I have had to spend more time on the toilet ๐Ÿšฝ then I would like to admit. At least working from home didn’t have to take a sick day.

Got my gear out and ready for camping โ›บ. Not planning a big trip, just a few days away to enjoy some quiet. I’m disabling my cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ and I’m leaving the radio ๐Ÿ“ป home as I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด of hearing non stop Coronavirus coverage. Truth be told, next weekend looks better โ˜€ than this one but it could change before then and who knows the way things are going there might be travel restrictions by then. โ›” I’m hoping not, and I might even do a long weekend next week if it’s nice enough. I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด of being in my moldy apartment so much.

This evening I went to the store got beer, motor oil, money ๐Ÿ’ต and a few other supplies that I couldn’t get at Aldi. All of Walmart was open, they had queues at the doors but they weren’t open. Dropped the paper ๐Ÿ“„ and old clothes and boots off at the recycling center at the park and ride โ™ป. Checked the fluids, topped off the oil and did a quick visual inspection of the belts and suspension and solar system wiring. Still need to get milk ๐Ÿฎ and air up the tires in Red, that’s better to do when the tires are cold in the morning.

Most every thing is packed except for my personal gear like the toothbrush, pots and pans ๐Ÿณ I need for breakfast and the guns I didn’t want to leave overnight in the truck. If I camp where I plan there is a good backstop for shooting. ๐Ÿ”ซ Everything is closed down here – hard to practice. I also updated my fishing license ๐ŸŽฃ and I have the PDF on my phone if I get asked for it.

Spent some time cleaning in the kitchen ๐Ÿšฟ treating the cabinets for mold and scrubbing down the counters so things won’t be so gross when I get home. One of these days it’s going to get hot โ™จ and it will be important to have things as mold free as possible before the humanity peaks. Once the windows are open I’ll repaint the refrigerator which is rusty again.

It seems cleaning good with bleach kills off any RNA of Coronavirus I might have accidentally tracked in. ๐Ÿ‘พ Somehow reading ๐Ÿ“– about that 39 year old farmer in Cansastota who is fighting for his life on a ventalator๐Ÿšœ makes it a lot more real to me. Caronavirus is remarkably bad and spreading fast with farm families who are struggling a lot already. That said, closing the boat launches ๐Ÿšค and other activities seems silly and over the top. At least the Glenmont Car Wash is open so I can wash the salt off my truck after I get back – I checked tonight. ๐Ÿ‘

Tonight will have isolated snow showers before midnight. Mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 30 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 28th. West wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waining Crescent ๐ŸŒ˜ Moon with 29% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 5:43 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:12 am in the east-northeast (75ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:50 am with sun in the east (82ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 30 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a high of 48 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 25th. West wind 7 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 62 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2002. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1965.โ„ Albany might break that record tomorrow depending on when the snow starts tomorrow night and if we get any tonight.

I think where I will be there won’t be a lot of snow โ›„, maybe a dusting come morning but I brought the snow shovel to be safe. The NOAA snow map shows none up there now but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a dusting when I get up there. Even if we get some the sun will make it disappear by morning most likely.

I have work until five o’clock, but maybe if the work load is light I’ll leave early and I can always work on it up at camp on Saturday. โ›บ I want to get set up fairly early as even though the days are longer now its not summer yet by any means. Supposedly it will clear by afternoon. And I’m just thinking a short leg stretcher hike on Saturday with a longer one on Sunday night where hopefully I won’t see another person. ๐Ÿšถ If I do social distancing won’t be hard.

I didn’t get my stimulus check ๐Ÿ’ต because I didn’t owe or getting anything back from the federal government this year. So I have to give them my bank information. ๐Ÿ”ข Unlike owing the state. I’ll have to do that at some point. I’m going to split it between index ๐Ÿ“‡ funds and my higher interest savings account and not touch the money for a while. I think there a lot of potential eventually for good market growth. I don’t see myself getting out of New York for at least a few more years.

In four weeks on May 14 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (297ยฐ) at 8:10 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 13 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain showers, cold weather partly cloudy skies later and temperatures between 48 and 40 degrees. Probably one of the coldest mid May day on record. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 1900.

By then, hopefully the Coronavirus shutdown will be over ๐Ÿ‘พ but if not my hope is that it will be at least nice enough to work outside all day or even sit out at Five Rivers with the laptop or the library in a comfortable lawn chair. ๐Ÿ’บ Folks are already getting itchy about the shutdown and if the political winds shift and other states reopen they’ll be a lot of pressure to reboot things. ๐Ÿš Honestly, at that point I might still be a bit nervous about riding the bus or waiting at a busy bus stop ๐Ÿšdowntown but I am getting a bit better at washing my hands ๐Ÿ‘and getting used to wearing the bandana over my face. ๐Ÿ˜ท

Looking ahead, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 3 weeks and Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is a month away.

 Looking Out the Lean-To

April 15, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. I ๐ŸŒƒ There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I sat out back for a while. โœจ Kind of a starry night but admittedly it feels more like March then mid April. I guess I shouldn’t wish too much for balmy nights – they’ll be here before you know it. ๐ŸจI just hope the ice cream sales at Stewart’s return by then.

It was a nice day, fairly quiet day at work from home, ๐Ÿ’ป followed by a nice walk at Papscanne Island Nature Preserve. Went down to the laundromat mid day with my laptop. ๐Ÿ‘š ๐Ÿ‘– At the nature prserve there was lots of birds ๐Ÿฆ and wetlands to observe in the backwaters of the Hudson River ๐Ÿธ . I went there about five years ago now, I didn’t explore the area fully that time. While I left my camera home I took my phone with me and took a bunch of pictures that I’ll upload the next time I’m on the internet with my laptop. ๐Ÿ“ถ

I have a shopped at Aldi’s today, which despite spending $71 I still was missing some essentials. ๐Ÿ It’s a nice small store and it was quick in and out with folks sanitizing the carts out front – no quarter ๐Ÿ’ฑ required this time. I’m actually kind of wearing out my love for Aldi – I wish they had more bulk packaging and some of their prices really aren’t competitive with Walmart or even the overpriced suburban groceries around. That said, I did buy a lot of extra food for camp and next week so to avoid the stores as much as possible.

That said, getting home I forgot chillis for the burritos ๐ŸฅI plan on making up at camp and they didn’t have razors or beer or motor oil and night crawlers. ๐Ÿป I’ve been avoiding Walmart since the pandemic got underway but I may end up driving there and to the bank in Glenmont tomorrow, prior to my weekend trip. โ›ฝ Truck is all gassed up. I was trying to avoid going to the store again but I’ll try to do it at Walmart tomorrow in a one shot deal. Every time I go out in public even with the face mask – well the bandana ๐Ÿ˜ท – I know I’m expanding my risk of getting critically sick.

I was reading the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ and that 39 year old farmer and his pregnant wife with Coronavirus just outside Canastota. ๐Ÿ‘พThe farmer is hospitalized and is relatively healthy besides asthmaand probably a bit chubby too many years of drinking lots of milk straight from the bulk tank and take out in the tractor cab. ๐Ÿฎ Two of the farm workers are also sick says the article. Seems like Coronavirus is quite wide spread in the Central New York farming community from recent reports I’ve seen in the news. Madison County has been particularly bad on a per capita basis ๐Ÿ‘ฅand they have a lot of agriculture there especially in the hills and valleys of the southern part of the county. You wouldn’t think that the air flow of barns ๐Ÿฝ and UV light โ˜€ outside would be that conducive to the virus like the dense elevators and subways of New York City ๐Ÿš‰. It’s kind of scary as I know a lot of folks out in Madison County and and I have more in common with many of them as the densely packed New York City. ๐ŸŒ†

Tonight will have a chance of rain and snow showers between 11pm and 1am, then snow showers likely. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 31 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 31st. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 39% illuminated. The Flower ๐ŸŒท Moon is on Friday, May 1. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 5:45 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:14 am in the east-northeast (76ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:52 am with sun in the east (82ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 33 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 45 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 45 degrees at 3pm. 14 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 18th. Northwest wind 9 to 15 mph. That is going to be a cold one, probably one of the coldest on record for day time highs for April 16th. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 58 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 2012. 5.3 inches of snow fell back in 1983.โ„

Probably end up working inside as it will be too cold to sit outside despite the sun. โ˜€ I’m looking forward to nicer days and being able to work outside rather than the dungeon windowless office at work. Tomorrow I need to load up my camping gear, go through the checklist โ˜‘ and have everything ready to leave hopefully fairly early on Friday but it depends how busy I’m at work. That said, working from home means I’m parked right outside and it’s not a long jot to head out.

Looking forward to getting away for a few days โ›บ in the wilderness, at least before that is hopefully not banned. ๐Ÿ˜ง I haven’t done anything shooting in a few weeks with the range closed ๐Ÿ”ซ and I haven’t put in much time fishing ๐ŸŽฃ either and the last time I had a fire was New Years Eve. Might get a little snow on Friday night but I expect it will be gone by the time the sun โ˜€ comes up on Sunday. I’m hoping the federal government will sanction states that get too far out of line. Slowing Coronavirus is important but some things are getting way out of line. I’m going to bring my work laptop up there and briefly boot it to see if I can work from camp at a future week if I decide on a long weekend come May or June and don’t want to charge the time. I wish I could do a bigger trip but it’s kind of hard to ask for time off from work right now and I don’t want to buy gas or shop ๐Ÿช away from home where I lack hot water and soap to carefully wash my hands ๐Ÿ‘ as soon as I get home. It was bad enough today when I discovered after pumping gas that my spray bottle with rubbing alcohol was empty. I got to careful how much rubbing alcohol I put on my hands as they’re already getting dried out from the use. Most hand sanitizers also contain glycerin to avoid cracked hands but I haven’t been able to get glycerin at the store.

Taxes are paid. ๐Ÿ’ต I guess I could have delayed filling until July 15th but they were done weeks ago and there is another quarterly tax payment due then so why delay paying for a possible few pennies of interest. Got it done for a few months until next year. I was a bit concerned that the tax department had my old format bank account number on file and the website was down last week for fixing it but the transfer cleared without issue. โ˜บ

In four weeks on May 13 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (296ยฐ) at 8:09 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 18 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 54 and 42 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 69 and 46 degrees. The record high of 86 degrees was set back in 2004.

Looking ahead, Earth Day ๐ŸŒŽ is in 1 week, Latest Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 10 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 40 weeks.

 Flatwater Section Of Sacanadaga River

April 14, 2020 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 43 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing on Thursday around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Not too cold without a breeze. ๐ŸƒI sat out back for a while watching laser light show listening to podcasts after my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ where I sat down at the park for a while and downloaded podcasts. ๐Ÿ“ถ I was a bit freaked out about ticks ๐Ÿœ but truth be told I miss sitting down at park, on the hill with a book ๐Ÿ“™.

Another fairly busy day at work ๐Ÿ’ป, got another report completed and submitted although there was some downtown mid afternoon while I waited to get database access. I actually ended up working a ten minutes after five off the clock ๐Ÿ•’ but that’s fine because I had some downtime and I’m home so it worked out that I put in an honest seven and a half from home.

Still haven’t gone to the grocery store or laundromat ๐Ÿ‘š but I have enough food ๐Ÿฒ and I’m deciding on my weekend plans and if tomorrow is nice enough to go over to Rennselear County tomorrow to work down at Schodack Island followed by a walk and shop ๐Ÿช. Obviously if I plan to spend a few nights in the wilderness I’ll need certain foods for camping โ›บ I will need certain things in my pantry. To be safe I’m trying to only do one grocery shop this week and not visit any gas stations or stores while I’m out. Really trying to be on my best behavior and physically isolate plus I like avoiding spending money. ๐Ÿ’ต

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers after 1am, mixing with snow after 4am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 33 degrees at 6am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 5th. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had light rain. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1940.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 49% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 5:46 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:16 am in the east-northeast (76ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 38 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:53 am with sun in the east (83ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 45 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 49 degrees at 2pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 27th. Northwest wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Might be cold but sunny. I’ll see what the work load is, I’d like work down by the river but not if I’m very busy and it’s cold. ๐Ÿ’ป A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 63 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 2003. 2.4 inches of snow fell back in 2014.โ„

Tomorrow I’ll start going through the attic and getting gear ready for adventure one of the year. โ›บ It’s certainly much down scaled from previous plans but still will be fun and hopefully I’ll not run into anyone else up there. Snow is gone from most of the state now and I have my rubber boots ๐Ÿ‘ข in case it’s muddy but I don’t expect much mud up there except while fishing. ๐ŸŽฃ I’ll renew my license maybe tomorrow and keep it on my phone. ๐Ÿ“ฑ Not that I’ve ever had my license checked.

In four weeks on May 12 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (296ยฐ) at 8:08 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 23 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 51 and 43 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 46 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 1881.

Looking ahead, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 3 weeks, Fathers Day ๐Ÿ‘จ is in 2 months, Primary Day ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 10 weeks, and Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ is in 29 weeks.

Still Only April

April 13, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ You can see the stars โœจ at times. Breezy, ๏ธ24 mph breeze from the west ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 45 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. It’s quite mild out for mid April this evening but that wind is relentless, especially the gusts so I decided to head in after listening to the podcast I was listening to. ๐Ÿ‘‚ The dew point is 46 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

For a while I sat out back watching the laser light firefly display I bought a few years back ๐Ÿ much to the dismay of my parents who think it is tacky and causes air planes to crash. โœˆ I think it’s fun, especially watching it sparkle in the bushes โœจ on a dark night. Doesn’t work so well in the city with the lights or if I have a lot of lights at camp. ๐ŸŽง I listened to two podcasts out back before I got tired ๐Ÿ˜ด of the cold wind out back.

I got another report to do for work today ๐Ÿ“ so I dived right in. Making good progress, with the limited distraction free mobile broadband internet for work I’m making a lot of progress on the report.

Didn’t go to the laundromat or grocery store today – I ended up taking a picture of the health insurance invoice and doing it online avoiding having to mail โœ‰ the paper work. Without needing to go to the post office, leaving home ๐Ÿก wasn’t that pressing and I had no reason to leave home on this often rainy day ๐Ÿ’ฆwith the constant threat of high winds and downpours which didn’t happen in Delmar. Rain early and wind late here.

Rode the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ for an hour and then went for my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ followed by sitting out back in my comfortable lawn chair watching the sunset and then virtual fireflies first flicker on the ground and then the trees. ๐Ÿ It was nice until the wind really picked up.

Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 22nd. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 60% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 5:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:17 am in the east-northeast (77ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:55 am with sun in the east (83ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 51 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 31st. West wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. That wind will make it feel kind of chilly for sure. But it still might be a nice day to soak up the sun, โ˜€ working out back. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.โ„

I might still go to Schodack Island State Park and work down by the river for a couple of hours ๐Ÿšข – my work laptop has a very strong battery ๐Ÿ”‹ and then go for a walk ๐Ÿšถ and hit up Aldi’s before coming home. ๐Ÿ At least that’s a plan. I do need to consider when I can get to the laundromat but that’s less pressing as I don’t have as many dirty clothes ๐Ÿ‘š as I work from home, rewearing jeans ๐Ÿ‘– multiple days with t shirts that don’t take up much space in the wash.

In four weeks on May 11 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (296ยฐ) at 8:06 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 31 minutes and 27 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 65 and 47 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 46 degrees. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 1911.

With everything at PAUSE ๐Ÿ”œand it being another chilly April, it just kind of seems odd to think ๐Ÿ’ญ summer is not all that far away. While work has picked up, much of life has kind of stopped ๐Ÿ”ด even as the seasons march on. Six weeks to Memorial Day and seven to June.๐Ÿน But with everything shut down it almost seems not to matter. That said life goes on and I’m finding ways to adapt and make due.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 2 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 3 weeks, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 weeks, Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 6 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 7 weeks and Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 10 weeks.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿฆ…Only 39 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

April 13, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Another week working from home, at least I don’t have to pay a bus fare. ๐Ÿš Probably do make up for it with electricity and other bills though. Two weeks to Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ. Rain and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” Breezy, ๏ธ23 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 34 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. The dew point is 53 degrees. Warm enough that my windows are open. Just wish we had more sun this morning. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today will rain before noon, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 66 degrees at 5pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 6th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Windy, with a south wind 23 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. That could be a pretty driving rain at times – hopefully I won’t get caught in it if I have to go out later. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 74 degrees. The record high of 87 was set in 1977. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 1950.โ„

Today I need to get to the post office โœ‰ and the laundromat. ๐Ÿ‘š I’m hoping to do that between the driving rain โ˜” that is expected later. I also need to get to the grocery store, but I’m trying to put that off for later on a nicer day and combine trip to Aldi with a hike in Rensselaer County. ๐Ÿ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 56.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-14.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:58 pm with the sun in the west (277ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (284ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:36 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 59 seconds with dusk around 8:04 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:40 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 64 degrees. The dew point will be 52 degrees. Breezy, 25 mph breeze โ›… from the southwest with gusts up to 45mph. Today will have 13 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 47 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 43 degrees at 5am. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 1st. Breezy, with a west wind 18 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.

Looks like a decent spring weekend but a bit cool. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 59. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 60 degrees.

I will probably do an overnight or two in the woods should the forecast remain consistent. โ›บ Not necessarily going far away into the rough country although I would like some time up in the woods. I’ll have to give it some thought. My fishing ๐ŸŽฃ license is expiring today, I’ll have to get a new one although I don’t know if I can print one as I don’t have a printer but I can request one online and take my chances – I doubt any one is going to be out checking and even if they are its not the biggest fine ever for not having the tsg on in person especially if you have already purchased the license. ๐ŸŽซ

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 40 degrees. It was cold last April too. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.
