April 13, 2020 Night
Good evening! Partly cloudy and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. π You can see the stars β¨ at times. Breezy, οΈ24 mph breeze from the west π¬ with gusts up to 45 mph π¨π¨π¨. It’s quite mild out for mid April this evening but that wind is relentless, especially the gusts so I decided to head in after listening to the podcast I was listening to. π The dew point is 46 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 4 am. βοΈ
For a while I sat out back watching the laser light firefly display I bought a few years back π much to the dismay of my parents who think it is tacky and causes air planes to crash. β I think it’s fun, especially watching it sparkle in the bushes β¨ on a dark night. Doesn’t work so well in the city with the lights or if I have a lot of lights at camp. π§ I listened to two podcasts out back before I got tired π΄ of the cold wind out back.
I got another report to do for work today π so I dived right in. Making good progress, with the limited distraction free mobile broadband internet for work I’m making a lot of progress on the report.
Didn’t go to the laundromat or grocery store today – I ended up taking a picture of the health insurance invoice and doing it online avoiding having to mail β the paper work. Without needing to go to the post office, leaving home π‘ wasn’t that pressing and I had no reason to leave home on this often rainy day π¦with the constant threat of high winds and downpours which didn’t happen in Delmar. Rain early and wind late here.
Rode the exercise bike π² for an hour and then went for my evening walk πΆ followed by sitting out back in my comfortable lawn chair watching the sunset and then virtual fireflies first flicker on the ground and then the trees. π It was nice until the wind really picked up.
Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy π§, with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 22nd. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 24 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 45 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 1973.
Tonight will have a Last Quarter π Moon with 60% illuminated. The darkest hour is at 12:56 am, followed by dawn at 5:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:17 am in the east-northeast (77Β°) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 39 seconds earlier than yesterday. π The golden hour ends at 6:55 am with sun in the east (83Β°). Tonight will have 10 hours and 38 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 46 seconds over last night.
Tomorrow will be partly sunny π, with a high of 51 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 31st. West wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. That wind will make it feel kind of chilly for sure. But it still might be a nice day to soak up the sun, β working out back. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 83 was set in 1968. 1.4 inches of snow fell back in 1950.β
I might still go to Schodack Island State Park and work down by the river for a couple of hours π’ – my work laptop has a very strong battery π and then go for a walk πΆ and hit up Aldi’s before coming home. π At least that’s a plan. I do need to consider when I can get to the laundromat but that’s less pressing as I don’t have as many dirty clothes π as I work from home, rewearing jeans π multiple days with t shirts that don’t take up much space in the wash.
In four weeks on May 11 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (296Β°) at 8:06 pm,π which is 31 minutes and 27 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly cloudy and temperatures between 65 and 47 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 46 degrees. The record high of 90 degrees was set back in 1911.
With everything at PAUSE πand it being another chilly April, it just kind of seems odd to think π summer is not all that far away. While work has picked up, much of life has kind of stopped π΄ even as the seasons march on. Six weeks to Memorial Day and seven to June.πΉ But with everything shut down it almost seems not to matter. That said life goes on and I’m finding ways to adapt and make due.
Looking ahead, Arbor Day π³ is in 2 weeks, 8 PM Sunset π is in 3 weeks, Flower Moon π is in 5 weeks, Memorial Day πΊπΈ is in 6 weeks, June πΉ is in 7 weeks and Average High is 80 π is in 10 weeks.
πΊπΈπ¦ Only 39 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!π¦ πΊπΈ
