Good evening! Cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. There are 19 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Starting to melt away a bit but there is still a lot of snow in places on the sidewalks. Roads are fine, taking the express both ways wasn’t bad but walking 🚶 down to the library I noticed the locals are still running behind schedule due to snow banks slowing traffic in the city. Got home close to the regular time.

This evening was the Crossgates Maul Movie 🎦 Theater expansion variance hearing that some of the Save the Pine Bush members went to but I was tired after the long day of work yesterday and that issue is a little bit out of my wheel house 🎡You got to pick your fights and this one isn’t mine. 🌲🌲🌳🐝Shading is bad but it’s not more development of the preserve. And I try to stay as non political as possible these days with my focus primarily on saving money and making a better tomorrow for myself. Not make waves locally just because I don’t view any future 🔮 in New York beyond making money the next few years.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 27 degrees at 1am. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 2nd. West wind 3 to 5 mph. Actually a relatively mild night for a change. In 2018, we had mist in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 39 degrees. The record low of 2 occurred back in 1989.

It looks an another cool down with a few inches of snow come Friday and fairly cold for the weekend. β›„ That said, Monday and Tuesday will be mild and rainy, really eating away at the snow. Then a cold pattern will return and it might be quite cold and snowy the weekend before Christmas. This year seems on track for a White Christmas 🎄 which is actually quite uncommon around these parts but things could still change.

In four weeks on January 1 the sun will be setting at 4:32 pm,🌄 which is 9 minutes and 51 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had cold but sunny weather and temperatures between 11 and -10 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 31 and 16 degrees. The record high of 57 degrees was set back in 1966.

I’ve been working on updating the expired weather records for the blog. 📝 It took me a while to find the necessary reports on the weather service website and I had to update the code for reading the files due to changes in their field names. But hopefully I’ll have that up tomorrow.

One of my colleagues who is very conservative posted another one of those Russian pro government, cop 👮 worshipping articles and I so wanted to respond back on how I don’t worship government employees but I bit my tongue and remained quiet. I really just hate social media these days – not just because of the stupid things I say but how so often it makes me angry πŸ‘Ώ and frustrated 😤. I like my little corner of the internet much better where I’m free of nasty comments.

Looking ahead, Christmas 🎅 is in 3 weeks, New Years Day 2019 🎉 is in 4 weeks, National Bird Day 🐦 is in 6 weeks, 37th Birthday 🎉 is in 8 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 59 weeks.

Snowy Mountain from Watch Hill

December 3, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 23 degrees at the Downtown Albany. Calm wind. There are 24 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. 🌡️ Snow melt is probably a good thing. It’s been a big one here in Albany and it’s caused so much delays on the evening commute.

Long day at work but they got us dinner which was nice. 🍲 But the bus was running about ten or fifteen minutes late due to the narrow roads and snow removal efforts. 🚍 At least urban bus stops were pretty clear of snow. Still a real slog home 🏡. That said, I think we made good progress catching up on all the work from the Monday snow day. I could definitely go for the 10 hour workday, four days a week. For a while traffic was completely jammed on Lark Street. ❄ It will get better once the snow emergency is fully underway.

Tonight will have increasing clouds ☁, with a low of 18 degrees at 11pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 24th. Maximum wind chill around 20 at 10pm; Light and variable wind. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mist by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -9 occurred back in 1940.

Tonight will have a First Quarter with 58% illuminated with the moon setting at 11:14 pm. The moon will set at 12:00 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tonight with a slight chance of snow showers. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, December 11th. The sun will rise at 7:07 am with the first light at 6:35 am, which is one minute and 2 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 18 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a high of 36 degrees at 2pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 14th. Calm wind. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1998. 6.0 inches of snow fell back in 1901.❄ How little.

I am just glad there are only three more work days left this week. 😴 Between the long day and the evening communte I’m so tired. Maybe it’s also the Lyme medication 💊 I don’t know. I’m many ways it was a tough day but one for a better tomorrow. This commute home is such a slog. Finally made it to Delmar but not until really late.

In four weeks on December 31 the sun will be setting at 4:30 pm,🌄 which is 8 minutes and 47 seconds later then tonight. That’s New Years Eve. And then it will be the shit show known as 2020. But the New Year will bring warmer weather, more opportunities to save and grow, to learn and become a better person. I am already so tired of winter after the long commute home 🏡.

Looking ahead, 7:15 AM Sunrise βŒ›οΈ is in 1 weeks, Christmas Eve 🎅 is in 3 weeks, New Years Eve 🎆 is in 4 weeks, Latest Sunrise of the Winter 🌄️ is a month away, Coldest Week of the Year 🌬 is in 6 weeks, Martin Luther King Day 🖤 is in 7 weeks and Election Day 2020 🗳️ is in -1 months.

Good evening! Snow fairly hard out but I’m not sure I’d quite call it a white out, around 26 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. There are 15 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️It just keeps snowing.

This has to be one of the biggest snowstorms Albany has gotten in a long time, certainly in December. We had that February storm a few years back but this might be bigger than that. I don’t know. The good news is come tomorrow morning it will be done with sun and warmer temperatures come the afternoon. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡️

I didn’t think the roads were that bad when I went outside midday to clean off my truck β›„ but maybe they’re worse other places. I’m sure it’s still not fun to drive anywhere with the amount of snow on them and it probably was worse in the evening. But what do I know, I live in the city.

It’s been a pretty productive extended Thanksgiving weekend 🍗prolonged by work being closed today by the weather. I got my propane camp lantern 🏮 taken apart and cleaned. I got the worse of the snow off Big Red so hopefully the clean up will be easy after the warmer weather later this week. I rolled over my maturing CD and reinvested that. 💿 Ordered that voltage sensitive switch from China that I’ll wire up once we get nice weather. I’ve done a bunch of research into rechargable LED lanterns to use for inside my tent and backpacking. 🎪 Made more maps up for the blog 🗾and got the pictures ready to upload from yesterday’s hike on the rail trail. And the big thing – launching the updated version of the blog is done. βœ’

Did a bunch more reading 📖 about meat science 🍖 and butchering – there is a lot I didn’t know about meat. Most people eat meat but know very little about it. Adam Danforth does a good job explaining meat with lots of pictures. Rode the exercise bike 🚲 an hour and a half, also finished watching most of the YouTube videos I’ve downloaded over the past few weeks. 📹

Tonight will snow, mainly before 3am. 🌨 Low of 20 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 18th. North wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. That I can believe, it’s snowing out good now but at least it won’t last as you can see the backside of the storm on the radar. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -1 occurred back in 1976. Getting into winter now that below zero record lows are popping up every day.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 48% illuminated. The moon will rise at 12:33 am. The First Quarter Moon will be tomorrow with a chance of snow showers. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, December 11th. The sun will rise at 7:06 am with the first light at 6:35 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Mornings are getting really dark again. Tonight will have 14 hours and 44 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 20 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny β›…, with a high of 34 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 20th. Northwest wind 8 to 14 mph. With the sun later in the day and wind it should start to chew away at snow but the sun angle is still weak. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 2009. 5.2 inches of snow fell back in 1893.❄

In four weeks on December 30 the sun will be setting at 4:30 pm,🌄 which is 7 minutes and 43 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had sunny skies and temperatures between 16 and -3 degrees. A lot of last December was pretty cold, especially the end of the month. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 16 degrees. The record high of 53 degrees was set back in 1984.

I better get some sleep. 👔I have to wear a suit and tie to work tomorrow and I want to be out early to catch the local downtown and also maybe run out brush the snow off the solar panel and the truck so it keeps the batteries well charged and things are ready to go come the weekend. So early day tomorrow. Goodnight! 😴

Looking ahead, Earliest Sunset of the Year βŒ›οΈ is in 1 week and Festivus 🍖 is in 3 weeks.

November 29, 2019 8 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north-northwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡️

Chilly night out. ❄ Much colder up north I’m sure. The nights are kind of long this time of the year and I’d probably have retired to the tent pretty early due the cold and because the heater is so nice and warm in the tent. Never made it to the store 🏬 today but did to the library on this But Nothing Day.

I’ve probably put two hours on the excerise bike today so I’ve gotten my exercise for the day. 🚲 One of the pedals fell off and I was concerned that the threads were getting stripped but it seems to be working well. But it’s been a pretty cold and gray day. ☁

I did walk down to the library and got the new version of the blog push forward. This template is built in a simple way that should be easy to maintain going forward, and hopefully be somewhat faster loading and more reliable with some stylish features and a better index and layout. βœ’ Now I just have to come up with some new content. I just have to find data to download and map. Maybe Sunday. I also got some books out to read. 📙

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 20 degrees at 6am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 18th. Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 21% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:48 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Tuesday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, December 11th. Next weekend if I decide to go north, the moonlight might be nice on the snow if it’s not too deep. Tomorrow, the sun will rise at 7:03 am with the first light at 6:32 am, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Haven’t you noticed how dark the mornings really are? Tonight will have 14 hours and 40 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 31 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 33 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 23rd. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 67 was set in 1933. 7.1 inches of snow fell back in 1972.❄

It looks like we might have upwards of a foot of snow β›„ come Monday with the snow starting on Sunday. I can’t believe already I have to think about my winter parking location. I might throw a tarp over the roof of the truck again for easy snow removal once it stops. I like to keep the solar panel clean so it keeps the battery topped off during the week.

In four weeks on December 27 the sun will be setting at 4:28 pm,🌄 which is 4 minutes and 28 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had cold weather, mostly sunny and temperatures between 17 and -4 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 32 and 17 degrees. Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a north-northwest breeze at 10 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. 🌡️

I has a nice Thanksgiving dinner with the family 👪 with all the fixings. After all these years, I think mom made the best Thanksgiving dinner yet. Her cranberry sauce and creamed onions were really amazing. 🍒 She has been doing a lot of research on the internet and been test cooking new recipes all autumn long. 🍗 Her success has paid off. I’m hoping she can do it for many more years as when I’m on my own, I can’t imagine ever cooking such a big meal myself.

I went for my evening walk 🚶 after dinner in Delmar. Remarkably quiet night for sure, I thought I see others out walking after the big meal but it was pretty raw outside especially at first. I wanted to ride the exercise bike 🚲 but it looked like my neighbor was home and the lights were dimmed and I didn’t want to wake him with the rumble if he’s working the morning shift.

A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 56 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 2005. 3.3 inches of snow fell back in 1945.❄

I really like the idea πŸ’‘ of doing something if it’s so nice tomorrow. I’m seriously considering the Adirondacks again, get out there one more time before the big snow. ❄ If I don’t camp the next two days snow abs cold might mean it’s a a while. It seems like it won’t start until Sunday evening based on the latest models. Not sure though. Definitely sounds too nice to stay home – even if I just wakj to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. 🐸

I’m ready to launch the new blog theme 👍once I’m home for a few days to monitor performance and ensure everything is working properly. On the outside the changes in style are minor but it’s a big update internally based on a stripped down fast WordPress theme, one that’s still actively updated and patched unlike the current version I’m running. I’ll be happy when that project is done although I’ve taught myself a lot about CSS 3 and the many functions of modern web browsers. 💻

Good evening! The Thanksgiving holiday weekend has arrived. Rain showers and 48 degrees in Delmar, NY. β˜” There is a west-northwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 10 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Continuing to work on the updated blog theme some more. βœ’ Continuing to research how to repair my camp lantern, 🏮 I’m going to try to take it apart tomorrow and see if I can clean whatever is clogged with dirt and carbon. Rode the exercise bike for a while, watched some YouTube videos. Kind of a rainy night, no evening walk 🚶 for me.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before midnight. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 40 degrees at 5am. 12 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 15th. I’m really leaning against heading out camping this weekend after seeing the latest snow β›„ models but I’ll reevaluate if I can get two nights out camping. β›Ί It just seems like once again a lot of money is going out 💵 and not much coming in so from a financial standpoint might be good to stay home 🏡. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day at the folks 🍗 but a few days home wouldn’t be too bad.

November 26, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing on after Thanksgiving Dinner around 9 pm. β˜ƒοΈ Should be dry so no worries about snow and ice.

So I got the Doxycline antibiotics and took the first one tonight. 💊 I’ve not noticed anything yet but I was a bit tired 😴 . I drive to work today after the doctor visit 🚙 and traffic was as bad as usual during rush hour but this time I had didn’t have the bus driver to drive me home while I played on my phone📱. I cooked fish 🐠 for dinner, rode the exercise bike 🚲 and went for my evening walk 🚶.

I was veey glad to see that the printed documentation from my doctor 😷 and the pharmacy 💊had no cold and hard rule against dairy 🐮 while on doxycline – I am pretty sure what the doctor said is just don’t consume a lot of yogurt or milk right around taking the pill – do it with water 💦 and an empty stomach. So I can continue to enjoy God’s beverage 🍵 – milk but I should plan to not take my evening pill around dinner if I’m planning to drink milk. I actually bought a box of ice cream 🍨 from Stewart’s to celebrate. 🎉 I don’t really have much milk with breakfast, maybe a splash in the coffee as I’m not a big cereal eater. β˜• Dairy is the best and a lot of it is made locally from crops 🌾 grown here and fed to cows milked and cared for locally. 🐄 I can also have alcohol in moderation, there is no interaction between that and the antibiotics. I don’t drink much any more but its always nice to have beer at camp. 🍻

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 36 degrees at 3am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 30th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 23 degrees. The record low of 8 occurred back in 1957.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 2% illuminated. The moon will rise at 7:56 am. The First Quarter Moon is next Tuesday with rain is likely. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, December 11th. The sun will rise at 6:59 am with the first light at 6:28 am, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 35 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 41 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain likely, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 49 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 14th. Light and variable wind becoming south 9 to 14 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 43 degrees. The record high of 66 was set in 1896. 4.8 inches of snow fell back in 1940.❄

I should have gone to the library 📚 today and gotten some books to read over the holiday weekend especially up at camp but instead I rode the bike and went for the walk. β˜” I was thinking about going after work – but the library closes at five tomorrow. Then I thought they usually release us early for the holiday weekend 🍗 but with the rain coming I might not want to walk down to the library in the rain.

I really hated that rush hour drive. 🚙 So much traffic getting out of the city at five. Plus while I have a space I could use in the lot at work, it was so tight getting in an out of it with my Big Jacked Up Truck. Highway merging with my truck though was easy. But tomorrow it’s back to taking the bus 🚍. Even if someday I move back out to the country if I work downtown I’m certain to do the Park and Ride alternative to urban driving 🚘. While small cars are easier to drive in the city I’d much rather leave it to the professionals.

The doctor visit cost $25 and the antibiotics $5 thanks to having great health insurance. 🏥 I actually think I owe the Urgent Care place five more bucks but I’m sure they’ll bill me if they screwed up the co-payment. Who knows, medical billing is so complicated. I really feel sorry for those at the clinic who had to pay a lot more than I did. I’m glad the Lyme was diagnosed right away 🐞and I shouldn’t get any sicker. No copay for the Lyme test which wasn’t needed as I have the rash. Only missed three hours of work, which come out of the combined leave pool – no dedicated sick time like when I worked for the state.

Got the replacement battery 🔋 for my radio 📻 in the mail. βœ‰ Mom ordered it from Amazon for me after I reimbursed her. Came UPS in an enormous box 🎁 that was stuffed way back on the neighbor’s porch. But at least my radio is working and holding a good charge. The old one was all puffed out and I just noticed leaking electrolytes. It was $10 for two batteries – nearly the cost of the radio itself – but now I should be set for a long time. I really like my little shelf top radio at home that I also use for camping. Great reception, digital tuning, records to SD card among other things.

I am pretty sure based on the latest forecast that I will go up to the Adirondacks starting Black Friday bright and early. β›Ί Going to be clear but cold. I’m fine with that. I will hot tent ♨ as I’m staying two nights and there shouldn’t be a lot of snow up north. Going to snow late Sunday into Monday but the latest track of the storm suggests I’ll be home before it starts snowing much. β›„ We will see. 👀 I can have beer 🍻 and milk at camp which is nice too. That said, Somebody else I know who has had Lyme says doxycline can make you very tired but I don’t know if that’s from the Lyme or the drug. 😴 I had the really tired and sore period with headaches a while back I’m feeling better even before I started the antibiotics.

Stil need to dismantle the gas lantern 🏮 and find where it’s plugged or needs to be replaced. That said I’m seriously considering a rechargeable LED lantern going forward as they’re now quite bright and I wouldn’t have to worry about breaking the glass mantle or hooking up the hoses. The LED lantern could also be brought in the tent then charged on one of the many USB ports in my truck. 🔌

In four weeks on December 24 the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm,🌄 which is one minute and 10 seconds later then tonight. The record high of 72 degrees was set back in 2015. I remember that day. We had a pretty good rain storm, and I had to work Christmas until 3 pm. On Christmas Day I went out to Brookfield to camp β›Ί.
