I went over to John Wolcott house 🏡 for a while 🔎and then I went for my evening walk. Beautiful moonlight tonight but a bit cold with the wind. Got milk 🐮 for breakfast in the morning. Good evening! Snow flurries, damp and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a northwest breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. There are 5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธWarm weather and rain has been tough on the snow. But I’m glad it’s quickly disappearing. I did see the plow come through and lay down some salt. That said I’m not planning on going anywhere until Saturday or Sunday in my truck.

I had dinner, 🍲 which was sausage and peppers reheat from my parents house two weeks ago, and then I got on the exercise bike 🚲 and rode for about an hour. Played with the CSS stylesheet on the blog a bit, watched more of Imagine Acre Woods YouTube. His off grid homestead looks a lot like the neighborhood up the road with his hobby farm and cabin.

Took care of renewing my phone – 25 gigabytes of data a month or 800 mb a day is great – and now I’m paid up through December 2020. 📱 It saves a little money to buy it as a block and then I don’t have to budget it the rest of the year as it’s paid up.

At this point in my life a year is a minor time commitment, they go by so quickly but I’m getting closer to my goals each year that passes by. Not tomorrow but paycheck by paycheck. 💵 I tell you it seems like with my yearly certificate of deposit I’m constantly rolling it over but with yield curve where it is and my desire to have flexibility it makes little sense to buy for more than a year.

Everything seems to be working well with my bus pass now. 💳 If I ever run out or fare on the card again I’ll definitely just run to the Albany Library to refill it. They have the special machine to do it right there.

I am really excited about having that Monday off before New Years Eve โ›บ so I can hopefully do a road trip and camp. I really like the idea of doing another Finger Lakes trip but it depends a lot on the weather. โ›„ Winter can be tricky with camping, especially with bad weather and the roads.

Mild but not a real nice evening tonight. 💦 Rode the exercise bike for a while and then played some more with data in LibreOffice Calc. 🔢For being somewhat computer savvy I am shocked that I had never used the LOOKUP and Match function before in Excel. That is so much more handy than the manually matching rows like I’ve done in the past. Or using a pivot table. Don’t laugh at my stupidity. Watched some YouTube videos. As my neighbor was home I didn’t ride the bike past 8 pm so not to annoy him with the rumble.

It looks like the voltage switch I ordered from China arrived โšกin the United States today and I’ll likely have it by the end of the week. Once I get it I will do some testing and as much of the wiring I can do inside before taking it out to Big Red to hook up. The plan is if all goes well to use it to feed power to the starting battery automatically to top it off during the week and when camping when I have excess power coming into the panel. 🔋 This will help automatically balance the batteries and keep it so my starting battery is fully charged while camping even if I open and close the doors a lot.

I really should spend more time my soldering iron building shit. 🔬But ever since I got those Bluetooth headphones working and set my computer up to download my favorite YouTube videos I’ve wasted too much time in front of the tube. I also need to read more, but that’s something I tend to do more up at camp. โ›บ

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 31 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… Breezy, ๏ธ23 mph breeze from the south 🌬 with gusts up to 36 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 17. There are 15 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡๏ธ

I decided with the wind 🍃, not to do my evening walk 🚶I think with the wind and dampness it would be rather cold and I did get some decent exercise in skiing 🎿 earlier today. It was nice in the Gorge. I had a nice Sunday dinner 🍲 at the folks house and then came home, folded my clothes and did more reading 📖 about Butchering. 🥩I reread part of the book again because I lost my page in the book.🔖Also a bit achy all day today, not sure if that’s the Lyme coming back but I was fine skiing and it was pretty good but tiring climbing out of the gorge. 😮

Tonight will be mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 30 degrees at 8pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 23rd. Breezy, with a south wind 18 to 23 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1902.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 95% illuminated. The moon will set at 4:16 am. The Cold Moon 🌕 is on Wednesday night with scattered snow showers around. The sun will rise at 7:12 am with the first light at 6:40 am, which is 56 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 51 minutes of darkness, an increase of 58 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will rain, mainly after 10am. I think I can walk down to the bus tomorrow. Patchy fog after 9am. 🌧 High of 49 degrees at 6pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 14th. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Not a big wash out but still a bummer of a day for the first day of snowmobile and black powder season. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1966. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 2009.โ„

Fixed some more bugs on the blog 🐞and I’m hopeful I’ve figured out the display glitch I’m seeing on the mobile 📱 version but that’s going to require more testing. Web page 📄 speed loading has improved dramatically at times after disabling that troublesome plug in. I also fixed the template so it says an increase or a loss of daylight like it should but has been broken for years due to my sloppy programing.

The repairs to the ski boots I made last year and the repairs to the skis are holding up good, the only thing left to repair is to install new baskets on my ski poles and I should good for doing a lot of cross country skiing now that big game hunting season done. 🎿 Some people would have just tossed my gear – the boots and ski poles are second hand from the Bethlehem Sportsmart from 20 plus years ago and at least the boots are 30 years old but they still work great with some minor gluing and repairs. 👚 On a related note, I still wear sweater vests and sweaters from high school that are two decades old now.

Don’t need to be throwing things away constantly, especially when you can use money 💵 towards a better tomorrow. I guess I got thinking about that after listening to the podcast about thrift stores. I should also look at thrift stores again – I was reading 📖 about them and how you can get some really good deals there, although I hardly need anymore clothes or stuff.🎁

Tomorrow I’m going to request December 30th off so I can possibly do a five day trip from December 28 through January 1st, depending on the weather. โ›บ I’m thinking about a winter camping trip at the Finger Lakes National Forest or maybe the Adirondacks depending on the snow โ„. I think it would be a fun way to round out the decade and I’ve been itching to get out of town for more than a day. I think there is a good chance that I’ll get the day off, especially as I don’t have clients right now per se that need covering.

In four weeks on January 5 the sun will be setting at 4:35 pm,🌄 which is 13 minutes and 58 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had rain and temperatures between 40 and 29 degrees. December 7, 2019 10 PM Update

Good evening! Clear and 14 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There are 15 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 1 pm. 🌡๏ธ

I have to say it wasn’t the busiest day ever 💤but after the snow storm came out went and then that late night at work I’m rather tired. Fixing the skis was the big thing and I probably wasted too much time watch the YouTube lately. 📼 I’m happy though I think I’ve worked out most of the major problems with the blog, especially the speed issue which has been bugging me for some time.

Feeling a bit stiff and sore this evening. 😩 I thought that was the Lyme and the doxycline was to take care of that. Not terrible but maybe it’s also all the time I spent on the exercise bike or the near slipping a few times on the black ice โ„. I’ve been trying to carefully follow the antibiotics schedule but sometimes it varies when I can do it 💊 and it can be tough on my stomach to take it empty stomach.

I went for my evening walk 🚶 and while it was cool it want too bad wearing gloves and moving. My goatee iced up a bit but with a calm breeze it didn’t seem super cold for December. I’ve certainly been out walking on much colder evenings.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 7 degrees at 3am. 17 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 7 at 4am; Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -3 occurred back in 1902.

The sun will rise at 7:11 am with the first light at 6:39 am, which is 57 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 50 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 2 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 36 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 14th. Light south wind increasing to 9 to 14 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 30 degrees. The record high of 58 was set in 1927. 4.3 inches of snow fell back in 2001.โ„

I did flip the switch to pull power from the solar panel to the starting battery 🔋 so I should be in good shape to start Big Red come the morning although I wonder if I should have disconnected the switch before dark to keep the batteries from fighting. But we should have plenty of sun come the morning. Red is free of snow although I’ve not started him since the car wash on last Sunday morning. 🚘 He looks so nice and clean compared to most cars on the road but alas tomorrow I have to go to the store 🏬 and my parents house for Sunday dinner so he’ll get dirty again. But then it will rain Monday, helping to wash away some of the salt.

Looking forward to getting that voltage sensitive relay switch from China 📟 and being able to use that to automatically connect the starting battery when the solar panel is putting out enough energy to charge it. It will make it easier and totally eliminate the guess work on when to flip the switch, keeping the batteries better balanced. I could envision a lot of useful projects with a voltage sensitive switch, especially when I have my off grid property eventually. 🏡

The skis and ski boots have been sealed and the glue has hardened on the one ski 🎿 whose tip was broken so that I should be ready to go come the morning. I think I’m going to drive to Elsmere and do the rail trail in the morning and go shopping after that. The best part of the day will be in the morning tomorrow as clouds ahead of the rain are expected to push in come Sunday evening. Looking at quite a bit of rain 💦 and snow melt Monday into Tuesday, places that often flood in the spring time might flood. I’m definitely going to need the rain coat come Monday and might take the local to work.

John Wolcott wants to know if I can come over this week. 🔍📂I got to think about it some more but not Thursday as I have to bake a cake 🎂 or something for the work holiday party 🎄 on Thursday night. I probably should figure out what I want to cook so I can buy the ingredients tomorrow while I’m at the store. 🍰

I am toying with the idea ๐Ÿ’ก of requesting December 30th off work, as I have New Year’s Eve and Day off as holidays. I am thinking it would be fun to toast the new year in the wilderness, possibly if we got a nice run of weather out in the Finger Lakes or somewhere else nice. 🎇I could ask and maybe I’ll get it. Who knows though it’s likely to be crappy snowy weather. I miss night’s in the wilderness โ›บ – I had such fun last year.

In four weeks on January 4 the sun will be setting at 4:35 pm,🌄 which is 12 minutes and 57 seconds later then tonight. Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Two weeks to First Day of Winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ. Partly sunny and 26 and 2/5 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜€Accentuate the positive, that is the 2/5th of a degree. Calm wind. There are 12 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 2 pm. 🌡๏ธ

A cold morning and my apartment got really cold โ„ by the middle of night but has warmed up nicely. I went out and knocked the snow off the solar panel on the truck and I should be ready to go 🚙 once I decide to head out this weekend.

I think I found the plug-in that was slowing down the blog, and I re-wrote it to avoid the problem. 🔌 I’m continuing to debug the revised code but hope to make it live today. The plug-ins you can get for WordPress are good but sometimes they aren’t a good fit for my blog, especially as it has grown and changed over the years. 💻

In a little bit I’m going to head to the library 📚 and switch over to the new code and maybe download a few more videos to watch later on today. 📹

I glued the tip of my skies 🎿 and I should be ready to go out later. I am thinking this afternoon of heading down to the Norman’s Kill Gorge. Assuming that the wind doesn’t pick up it should be pretty nice ski.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 30 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical Light and variable wind becoming northwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1998. 5.5 inches of snow fell back in 2003.โ„

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:53 pm, which is 6 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 Almost to the earliest sunset of the year. At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 26 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, an decrease of one minute and 3 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 9 degrees at 5am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 13 at 3am; Calm wind. Brr. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 14 degrees. The record low of -3 occurred back in 1902.

Today in 1787, Delaware becomes the first state to ratify the United States Constitution. 📄 And for football fans in 1963, Instant replay makes its debut during the Army-Navy football game in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. 🏈 1972 today marked the end of an era — Apollo 17, the last Apollo moon mission, is launched. 🌕 🚀The crew takes the photograph known as The Blue Marble as they leave the Earth. 🌎 Then with 1970s rolling around they decided hanging out on the moon was pointless as it took away from dollars 💵 going to burn small children 👶with napalm 💥in Vietnam. Ain’t America a grand place to live?

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until 4:30 PM Sunset 🌆 when the sun will be setting at 4:29 pm with dusk at 5:01 pm. By then it will seem like it’s getting a little lighter in the evening. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, cloudy, mild and temperatures between 50 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 32 degrees. We hit a record high of 61 back in 1982.

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 25 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ›… There is a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The current wind chill is 14.ย  At times, there is a definite breeze, but it’s helping to melt away the snow. There are 17 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 2 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Some melting but they’re is still a lot of snow and more expected tomorrow into Saturday.

When I first got home, I looked out the window and saw the reflection of what appeared to be a massive fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ reflected in the window. I was a little concerned but as soon as I saw it, within a few seconds the flames disappeared. I wasn’t sure what it is, it turned out to be a barbecue grill they had just lit with a lot of lighter fluid, plus the reflection off the snow. I obviously, if I was in the country, I wouldn’t have thought twice — or even looking out back where they have a fire pit. Heck, some day when I live out in the country, I’ll have lots of fires from heating to bonfires to waste disposal.โ™ป

This evening I went to Tom Ellis presentation over hydroelectric dams and the proposed Champlain Valley power line that would run under the Hudson River. ๐Ÿ”Œ If built it would bring a lot more Quebec hydroelectric to New York City but also encourage construction ๐Ÿšง of many mega dams in New York City. Very problematic. Attendance was light as the County Legislature was having their public hearing on the straws only on request law (one of the silly anti-plastic laws that gives the greenies ๐Ÿ’š a boner ๐Ÿ†) and also a presentation on the towns road diet for Delaware Avenue ๐Ÿšง.

I fixed the code and will post the updated weather tables to the blog tomorrow. โ˜€๐ŸŒฆ Some of the data now is a year old and when I went to run the update script it didn’t work due to changes in the NOAA data report format. But I updated the fields names and its working again.

Finished off the last of the Thanksgiving dinner left overs today ๐Ÿ— after reading a post on Facebook reminding me that Thanksgiving was a week ago. I know in a few days even if I left it in the fridge things would start to mold up. Refrigeration doesn’t stop mold or bacteria growth, it only slows it. See I’m learning something from the book I’m reading on butchering livestock. ๐Ÿ”ช

Road the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ some more, watched some of Imagine Acre Woods YouTube, another one of those North Idaho off grid pig farmers ๐Ÿฝ who happens to know North Country Off Grid too. Quite the handlebar mustache he has but I guess if you live off grid by oil lamp, raise hogs and yaks – hairy tough cows ๐Ÿฎ – you can do what you want. He does a lot of trout fishing and camping too on his channel but that’s what you do in North Idaho I guess. Looks like fun.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 20 degrees at 5am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 18th. Maximum wind chill around 14 at 11pm; Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2017, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of -5 occurred back in 1901.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ” with 75% illuminated. The moon will set at 1:13 am. The Cold Moon๐ŸŒ• is on Wednesday night with partly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 7:09 am with the first light at 6:38 am, which is one minute later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 14 hours and 48 minutes of darkness, an increase of one minute and 10 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow likely, mainly between 11am and 3pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒจ, with a high of 33 degrees at 3pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 23rd.
