November 19, 2019 Evening

Good evening! Well folks, things don’t always work out perfectly. Got over to DeNooyer and they now close at six. Had to take two buses to get home. Frustrating as duck. Mostly cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar. โ˜ Calm wind. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 1 am. Watch for black ice.

Big Red passed his inspection and his oil changed and tires rotated. 🚙 GM has the best price around but I’m not happy that their hours changed to six (they used to be open until 8 pm) despite the fact they have it printed on big letters on their door and it looks like their website says that too. So I’ll have to go back there tomorrow to pay and get back my keys 🔑. Just wasted two hours walking 🚶 and transferring buses for my stupidity. Sigh. At least I passed the inspection and won’t need an oil change or tire rotation until summer with the minimal winter miles I drive.

Tonight will have patchy fog between 8pm and 9pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy 🌥, with a low of 32 degrees at 1am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 16th. Calm wind. In 2018, we had light drizzle in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 33 degrees. The record low of 6 occurred back in 1986.

Tonight will have a Waning Crescent Moon 🌘 with 35% illuminated with the moon rising at 11:24 pm. The moon will rise at 12:00 am. The New Moon is on Monday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, December 11th. The sun will rise at 6:51 am with the first light at 6:20 am, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 23 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and one second over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain showers, snow showers, and freezing drizzle before 11am, then a slight chance of rain showers between 11am and 3pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 39 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 6th. Light northwest wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mist in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 72 was set in 1991. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

GM’s multipoint inspection they do every time you drop it off to drum up business 🔎says that the oil cooler line is leaking. Maybe that’s were its leaking oil – I thought it was the head gasket or valve seal that was starting to go. I still from time to time hear that engine tick that’s now been there for years, especially when it idles for long periods of time. They wanted $500 to fix it which is above above the going rate for an independent shop for the same repair and the leak isn’t that bad based on the quart of oil โญ• I end up adding between 8,000 mile synthetic changes every 8-10 mile. A leaky line won’t foul up sparkplugs or oxygen sensors but I have to keep a on the oil.

My thought is may be the last inspection that I get for Big Red as may give up driving 🚘 in November 2020 as after then I won’t need a car for work and renting a car for vacation and road trips. I think before the next inspection I’ll need new tires, an alignment and probably some replacement suspension parts like ball joints. That’s easily a $2,000 hole in the budget. I just don’t have that kind of money to spend even though I still like my Big jacked up truck.

The truth is that to motoring I really prefer walking 🚶 and if I could get a bike that I wouldn’t keep breaking spokes on I could be a lot healthier. I could probably save over $100,000 over a decade by giving up motoring and it’s so much better both for my health and the environment. 🌎 I watch a lot of farm videos on YouTube and I’m very interested in off grid living but the more I save now the better tomorrow I can have. It really is fascinating to see what actually happens on dairy farms and rural homesteads across the country. 🚜 There is a lot that goes into farming for sure.

I have to say I often look at the nice things folks have – the big farm tractors and implements, the livestock, 🐽 the four wheelers, the guns, 🔫 the land and the freedom and I’m jealous. It must be nice to live off grid, not have to wash out the plastic jars and milk bottles you toss in the burn barrel out in the country. 🔥Best form of recycling โ™ป. 😂 I work hard and make good money but after the bills are paid, they’re just not much leftover. 💵 It goes out faster than it comes in. Maybe because I’m saving for a better tomorrow and most aren’t or maybe because many people are just finding ways to stretch bills further. I wish I could be better at wrenching 🔧 my own shit, knew how to weld, was a better hunter. I could do my own oil changes but I hate bothering with getting off the hard to remove filter. I studied white collared shit in school. 💼 Useless stuff that pays a middle class wage that still leaves me struggling. I do get tired of my falling apart moldy apartment, tromping through the snow to the bus, my cold apartment where I can see my breath at times or having pasta and mixed vegetables again as that’s the most affordable option and it’s all I have in my pantry. That said, I always have lots of milk because I love cows 🐮 and drinking milk. I’ll give up virtually any other food for life before milk.

Shower is acting up again. 🚿 Dripping a bit again. I got it to stop dripping eventually โ›” but it’s getting annoying. I’m going to have to text the landlord to have it fixed. I just hate having him over and seeing all the shit I’ve broken in his building over the past twelve years. 💔 Although not all of it is my negligence, the building is falling apart a bit as rentals always do and it’s a old building. I sometimes forget I’m paying for the his services and use of his property, he’s certainly not giving it to me for free.

Life can be frustrating at times for sure. 😈 But most of my problems are stupid like not knowing about the new hours at the dealership shop or a an acting up plumbing. I doubt I’ll go back to the dealer again for ordinary service. The late close made it easy in the past and they’re cheaper for the oil change than local places. Tomorrow I’ll catch the early bus in and pick it up. 🚍But I made it home, rode the exercise bike 🚲 for a while and now I got to get some sleep.

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind.Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 9 am. 🌡๏ธ

It’s been a good weekend except for ending it by dropping my glasses 👓 in the toilet 🚽 but they washed off fine and I had just flushed the toilet. Stupid me stumbling around after taking out my contacts. 👀

Had a nice Sunday dinner at the folks house, 🍲 of beef stew, rolls and noodles. Mom still makes the best meals 🍴. I had a safe trip home unpacked my stuff and worked on finding some photos 📷 for Save the Pine Bush to use.

Hiking in the Pine Bush was great 🚶, it’s remarkably beautiful this time of year and well worth my walk on this rather gray afternoon as the day became. It was some excerise with lots of birds 🐦 and wildlife to enjoy out walking. Saw lots of people too including horseback 🏇 riders and families 👪 out hiking.

Tonight will be cloudy โ˜, with a low of 29 degrees at 5am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 24th. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Little or no sleet accumulation expected. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 1928. 9.0 inches of snow fell back in 1980.โ„

Figured out how to write my own indefinite scroll 📜 code and get it to play nice with the masonry library that provides the pinterest like look for the blog. None of the code is really complicated but it took a while to figure out how to call the methods. My hope is when I switch to my new theme I’m writing – which reassemble the current appearance the blog will load faster and I’ll have more ability to customize it further without all the bloat of the current theme I use as a parent theme – but end up overriding half the code. It will be a better faster loading blog when it’s done and I think I now know how to call Masonry library after embedding Facebook to avoid visual glitches when loading. 💻 And I have some new ideas I’m thinking about implementing as part of the upgrade.

Good evening! Partly clear and 16 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. Snow is largely gone after the sun and breeze today. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Without the wind it’s been a pretty mild evening, ๐Ÿšถ I have a feel that it wasn’t that cold on my evening walk. Did smell like barnyard (manure and hay) when I walked past the Sunset Farm, they must have been hauling out the deep-pack earlier in the day, getting it on the fields, before things freeze up. ๐Ÿฎ I don’t mind the smell much, I like cows and country living. And without farms no milk or beef, and that would make me unhappy. I thought about going down to the library to get on the internet but after riding the bike ๐Ÿšฒ it was getting late so I just went down to the library for a while. The walk was pleasant. Catching up on YouTube for a bit now as I lay in bed.

I screwed up at the end of the day at work, lost track of time โŒš and almost missed the express bus home ๐Ÿก. I just got working on a spreadsheet ๐Ÿ“Šand had no idea 5 pm came and went. Only a few minutes after hours but I had to run to catch the express bus ๐Ÿš.

Still have a bit of a cough but I’m feeling pretty good and haven’t had any headaches or symptoms ๐Ÿค’ and my energy levels have been high. Been riding the exercise bike and did my evening walk ๐Ÿšถ. Had more fish ๐Ÿ  and green beans for dinner with apple ๐Ÿ juice.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 14 degrees at 11pm. 18 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical Maximum wind chill around 16 at 9pm; Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 22 degrees. The record low of 12 occurred back in 1996.

The sun will rise at 6:44 am with the first light at 6:14 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 14 hours and 10 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 14 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 11th. South wind 7 to 13 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became mostly clear by afternoon. The high last year was 33 degrees. The record high of 70 was set in 1973. 14.4 inches of snow fell back in 1972.โ„

I found the Twitter bug ๐Ÿ› in my blog code, so the Twitter feed is back on. Twitter isnt nearly as obnoxious with the API breaks, actually the latest issue had to do with a break in the WordPress API and how it interacts with my plug in ๐Ÿ”Œ. Really only required a handful of code lines changed.

I find Twitter isn’t as contentious of a place as Facebook but then again I’m rarely on the site myself – I just syndicate my blog there. Still have issues with future ๐Ÿ”ฎ posts showing too early but the issue had proven had to track down in the code.

I do go on Facebook a lot but I don’t post much of my blog content on there. I don’t like the lack of control over content and placement on that site. ๐Ÿ“ท Photos and maps posted to the blog remain my own

Good evening! Cold and clear under the Beaver Moon and 20 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. 🍃. The current wind chill is 7. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTomorrow will be the coldest day of week – possibly one of coldest mid November days ever – then finally it will start to thaw out at Thursday around 11 am. 🌡๏ธ More seasonable weather come Friday then cold Saturday for the Green Energy Fair โšก. But that’s where I’ll be.

Finally feeling mostly better ๐Ÿ™‚ I have had a ton of energy. After being sick for three weeks I have enough energy I’m bouncing off the walls. 🚶 I’m totally ready for a fifty mile hike, I did my evening walk in the cold and it was a pleasure. I also rode the excerise bike 🚲 for an hour and half listening to music and watching random YouTube videos I downloaded. 📹 Also worked on some new maps and blog posts 🌐 for the blog.

It’s going to be a very cold night 🌃 for mid November but it’s still pretty nice out. Not that cold by late December or even January into February. It’s not going to be 15 below with a negative 30 windchill as happens some time in winter. With that Big Beaver Moon 🎑 and the fresh snow โ›„on the landscape it’s a pretty beautiful night. It wouldn’t be a bad night for hot tenting or sitting although the breeze might add a bit of a chill to the air and blow the pilot light 🔥 out on the heater when sitting out next to it. I did leave the heat at 55 because I don’t like waking up for work when it’s too cold. Guilty pleasure. 😹 I just wish on cold nights like this I had that cabin with a wood stove where I could be truly warm.

Tonight will have isolated snow showers before 2am. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 10 degrees at 6am. 22 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around -1 at 3am; Northwest wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 32 degrees. We will likely smash the record low of 13 that occurred back in 1981.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 97% illuminated. The moon will set at 7:35 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Monday night with increasing clouds. The Cold Moon 🌝 is on Wednesday, December 11th. The sun will rise at 6:42 am with the first light at 6:12 am, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 8 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 17 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 27 degrees at 1pm. 22 degrees below normal. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph. Days like this are uncommon in November, especially mid month. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 44 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 1964. 6.0 inches of snow fell back in 1886.โ„

Got listening to Christmas music 🎶 and thinking about the season 🎄 – especially winter camping with the lights, the music and the hot coca โ˜• next to a big roaring fire 🔥. Gotta love 😍 Mitch Miller! Been a long time since I’ve spent much time in the woods but with the cold pattern expected to be breaking down and with my energy restored after being sick I’m ready for some good late November or early December nights in the wilderness. I might even take an extended weekend out to the Finger Lakes come late December like I did last year to winter camp in the National Forest. โ›บ

In four weeks on December 10 the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm,🌄 which is 14 minutes and 8 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny, mist and temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 38 and 23 degrees. The record high of 64 degrees was set back in 1966.

Good evening! Cloudy and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a north breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I am feeling a lot better now. ๐Ÿ™‚ I went for an evening walk 🚶 around the high school 🚸 and also rode the excerise bike 🚲 for probably two hours today. Knees are a bit sore, probably those hours on the bike 💪. I have a ton of energy โšก now that my cold is relenting – as often happens after being sick. You feel so weak until you ain’t. Still think there is a good chance I have Lyme – going to get tested if the headaches and soreness continue after the cough is gone. But at least the energy is back. Going to need it with the bitter cold โ„ coming tomorrow. Heat is on and it’s comfortable.

I had a good dinner of fish 🐠 and mixed vegetables with frozen onions added for flavor. It was a basic and good dinner, a change from the usual pasta in the winter. I had frozen raspberries for dessert and a glass of apple juice 🍏. I get apple juice is high on sugar but I don’t ever have candy 🍬 or alcohol 🍻 at home and the sugar boost makes me sleepy before bed 😴. Only camping. I rode the exercise bike more after dinner watching the latest update from Red Poppy Ranch 🌸 on his YouTube channel. I stopped early as my neighbor was home and I didn’t want to disturb him with the rumble of my bike which is pretty loud 🔊. That said with the Bluetooth headphones he never hears my music, video or radio 📻. I try to cuss and drop shit less when he’s home. 💩

Tonight will have a chance of rain before 3am, then rain and sleet between 3am and 5am, then rain and sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain after 5am. 😮🌀โ„ Low of 30 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 21st. North wind around 6 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total nighttime sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of 15 occurred back in 1976.

Tonight is the Beaver Moon but with the impending storm you won’t see much.🌝🚫 The moon is under the clouds, the beavers are hiding in the safety of their lodges. The sun will rise at 6:41 am with the first light at 6:11 am, which is one minute and 16 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 5 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 18 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 7am, then gradually ending. โ„โ˜ High of 31 degrees at 8am. 18 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day in early January. Northwest wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible. It’s going to be a messy commute some places but not so bad in Albany. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 1909. 7.3 inches of snow fell back in 1968.โ„

I’ll make it to work and it should be a fairly ordinary Tuesday. Probably take the local bus in if it’s really miserable come morning. 🚍 I’m hoping no headaches come the day time but I’ll make it through the day, I always do. 😧 After work, I’ll probably come home and continue to rest up but at least I think things are getting better health wise. I get paid tomorrow which is good 💸 as the big credit card 💳 bill is due Thursday.

Got replacement Bluetooth headphones. 🎧 Amazing how they’re under $8 at Walmart. The quality isn’t the same though, they don’t last as long and aren’t waterproof. But still six months is better than what I’d get with the wired ones. I saved the Bluetooth unit and battery in the old one, I could use it for a future 🔮 project.

Stocked up the pantry too, 🍇 I don’t plan to drive anywhere until next Sunday. $43 in groceries including foot powder and the headphones. Not too bad and I have more than 3/4 tank of gas left Solar should keep the truck ready to be started even if it cold out all week โ˜€. I think eventually when I own my own place I’ll keep an old solar panel and charge controller on a rack and run wires with a quick connect to the battery 🔋 of my truck to keep the battery fully topped off when it is parked for long periods of time at my cabin.

I do miss camping โ›บ and traveling a lot this time of year. I do want to do at least one more camping trip this month and maybe an extended weekend winter trip come December or January depending on how much snow and road conditions. My often cold apartment in the cold gray weather gets me watching the YouTube video I’ve downloaded and thinking a lot more about my future 🔮 and my plans. I could turn the heat up or rent a nicer place but it’s good to dream and have a plan for a better tomorrow.

In four weeks on December 9 the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm,🌄 which is 15 minutes and 10 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had snow and temperatures between 33 and 27 degrees. November 7, 2019 Night

Good evening! Cold and damp with snow flurries and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ„ There is a northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Definitely a cold and damp evening, the heat is on in my apartment and I’m wearing my comfortable blaze orange hoodie I wear regularly in the wilderness. ๏ธ

It was a busy and crazy day 😜 at work. I think I’m doing a good job and I have a good team but sometimes it gets crazy. I did check out the Tylenol they had had in the kitchen as I had another headache by afternoon. 💊 Everybody was calling me and keeping me busy, earning my money. Stayed up later last night then usual so I was tired 😴 by afternoon.

Despite the rain, โ˜” I walked down to the Union Station 🚉 to catch the bus. I’ve been lately catching the bus down there as it’s easy with my new office 🏢 to walk down Columbia Street and getting the bus before the expressway. But I tell you – there are too many sidewalk barricades on Columbia Street. 🚧 It makes it difficult for a pedestrian to navigate it. Also they really need crosswalks at Chapel Street and Columbia Street. It’s unsafe without crosswalks and no stop signs on Columbia. โ›” No fun for the pedestrian 🚶 in the rain walking down to the bus stop. 🚏

Got home, laid back in bed 💤 and then cooked up a big pan of pasta and meatballs. 🍲 I probably should have had a smaller meal as I had enough earlier in the day and I should have ridden the exercise bike 🚲 but I spent some much needed time cleaning in the kitchen and then the neighbor came home so I didn’t want to make a lot of noise riding the bike. At least dessert 🍰 was healthy – just frozen blueberries and bananas 🍌 to fill my increasingly bad sweet tooth.

Ended up watching a video on Beaver Trapping and some of Aging Wheels videos and now AVE. I accidentally downloaded most Aging Wheel channel so I might have a lot more to watch. 📹 I should have ridden the bike but at least I did walk a mile and a half today between walking to the express bus 🚍 and the station. So it’s not like I was a total couch potato.

Tonight will have a chance of snow, mainly before 10pm. I think that’s mostly done. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy 🌨, with a low of 25 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 5th. Barely expected to rise by morning. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 31 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1971.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon 🌔 with 89% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:26 am. The Beaver Moon 🌕 is on Monday night with partly cloudy skies. The sun will rise at 6:36 am with the first light at 6:07 am, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 13 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 34 degrees at 1pm. 17 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 20th. Northwest wind 9 to 17 mph. Going to be bitterly cold for November – not much snow melt in the mountains although the bright 🔆 sun will help. With the sun tomorrow and the heat on in my apartment I don’t expect it will get too cold inside. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 49 degrees. The record high of 75 was set in 1975. 1.7 inches of snow fell back in 1894.โ„

After I scheduled my post on water waste 💦 I noticed that my shower 🚿 was dripping this evening. I tapped the handle and it finally stopped. Bugged me as hell. If it starts again I’ll text the landlord to have the plumber come over. Also while he’s here I’ll have him fix the leaky sink drain and the sink faucet that leaks when it’s on. May that will slow all rusting and mold problems in the kitchen but I doubt – I think their must be a pipe that’s been leaking elsewhere for years. I hate calling the landlord over because I’ve done a lot of wear and tear on his building although I’m sure he already knows. I’m not a model tenant, I’m a dirty hick who tracks in a shit ton of mud. 💩 My idea of cleaning is paper plates and a campfire. He’s just happy I always pay my rent on time 💸 and I don’t make much noise. 🔇

Watching the snow falls around, โ„ and based on the reports and the weather I’ll decide on where I’m going this weekend. Tomorrow I’m going to John Wolcott house after work and after that I might run to the store or more likely I’ll just stop 🍖and get groceries to take to camp. โ›บ

In four weeks on December 5 the sun will be setting at 4:22 pm,🌄 which is 19 minutes and 14 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had cloudy, mild, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 39 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 25 degrees. The record high of 65 degrees was set back in 2001.

Looking ahead, Thanksgiving 🦃 is in 3 weeks, Repeal of Prohibition Day 🍺 is in 4 weeks, Boxing Day 🥊 is in 7 weeks and National Cheese Lovers Day 🧀 is in 11 weeks. I do love cheese. I really should have visited that Cheese Store when I was in Cuba, NY. If I do go out to Madison County this weekend, I really should stop at For the Love of Bacon. 🐽 Get some good bacon which goes well with cheese.

Autumn continues...
