This evening I went to Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace showing of Michael Moore’s latest film, Fahrenheit 11-9. I was surprised how much obscenity there was in the film, both the n word and f-word are repeated. I though so much obscenity was not appropriate. But it was interesting to watch even if I didnโ€™t agree with every part of it. Good to see the local activist types are still working for change, pushing for government accountability, even though the days of George W. Bush are long ago in history. I don’t personally get involved in political things any more beyond maybe helping out at Save the Pine Bush Dinner or hike, but it’s good to see there are concerned citizens still involved.

Riding the Excerise Bike.

I find myself riding the exercise bike more and more in my apartment as it’s an easy way to get some exercise while watching a Youtube video or listening to a podcast.

I’ve never been one for idling staring at a screen, although in recent years I’ve gotten more and more into watching Youtube videos I’ve downloaded, but I like to do something while I’m watching them. There is no better way to pass the time on a bike then watching the videos, from the comfort of my bedroom in the winter. It’s a great way to learn, while getting some exercise too.

Normans Kill Watershed

I can put on some music, and old dash cam videos and instantly transported back to West Virginia or some wild lands I was in a few summers back. It’s kind of nice how for the price of a few half pennies of electricity, I can be brought back to places I’ve been to before.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather be in the wilderness, but if I can be burning some calories — while learning or relaxing — from the comfort of my home, that’s great too. There is so much interesting content I can download and watch from home, all while keeping my legs strong and ready for summer’s adventures.

Paddling Grout Pond

Going for a little paddle, yesterday on Grout Pond. It may been cloudy, but it was scenic and pretty nice out on the lake -- and the black flies weren't that bad.

Supreme Court Rules That World Bank Can Be Sued : Goats and Soda : NPR

Every time immunity for government agencies and it's employees is struck down, it sends a powerful message to our leaders that they are not above the law and they should act as a responsible actors, furthering the public interest.

"Wu added that the new legal liability might make the World Bank think twice about whether to fund projects that could come with high environmental or social risks."

"The decision could make it possible for millions of people around the world to seek compensation for environmental and human rights abuses associated with internationally financed development projects."

March 7, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Two weeks to Spring ๐ŸŒท. Not that you would notice with the general lack of mercury, around 9 degrees in Delmar. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Lots of sun though. I know if we were to open more coal plants we could have more mercury in the air, though I doubt it would warm things much up in the short run. ๐Ÿญ There is a southwest breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. There are 3.5 inches of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 1 pm. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ

Maybe the cold will break for the weekend but in the meantime it’s nice and warm on the bus. ๐ŸšDriver definitely has the heat ๐Ÿ”ฅ cranked up this morning. That and my heat kind of fell behind last night because I left it around 50 during the day not expecting such a cold night. You’d think I’d be more educated about the weather.

Today will have a chance of snow showers, mainly after noon. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 26 degrees at 3pm. 15 degrees below normal. Southwest wind 5 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became heavy snow by afternoon. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1974. 10.3 inches of snow fell back in 1967.โ„

The sun will set at 5:52 pm with dusk around 6:20 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for snow ๐ŸŒจ and temperatures around 24 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 12. โ˜ƒ๏ธ There will be a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 32 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 11pm. Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 9 degrees at 6am. 14 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 2 at 4am; Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 29 degrees. The record low of -02 occurred back in 1989.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 34 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around February 14th. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning, which became heavy snow by afternoon. The high last year was 35 degrees. The record high of 68 was set in 2012. 6.5 inches of snow fell back in 2013.โ„

Got home around 8 pm after taking the 7:30 home. ๐ŸšNot a bad day, fairly busy but not too outrageously busy. Hoping to be able to leave work at five tomorrow and Friday be a casual day at work. ๐Ÿ‘–

I made pasta for dinner ๐Ÿฒ. Not a bad dinner, went out for my evening walk then retired to bed. ๐ŸšถRetired to bed, the lights dimmed at 10:10 and I went to bed. Despite being a busy week ๐Ÿ’ผ it really has been manageable and not too crazy.

Back in 1967, Bloody Sunday: a group of 600 civil rights marchers is brutally attacked by state and local police in Selma, Alabama.๐Ÿ‘ฎโœŠ In 2019, that seems like such a long time ago now, and it has to be a bit depressing looking back for those who participated on how little progress has been made in America. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Saturday looks nice but a bit cool, Sunday is a good day to stay home I think. ๐Ÿ˜• Saturday, sunny, with a high near 39. Light and variable wind becoming north around 5 mph. Sunday, snow before 10am, then rain. High near 41. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Typical average high for the weekend is 41 degrees.

This weekend I’m thinking about hiking on Saturday and maybe seeing about doing Sunday dinner at my folks house ๐Ÿก on Saturday, as I think Sunday is going to be cold and rainy. At least it will be rain โ˜” for a change. Maybe I’ll see if John Wolcott is around on Sunday or maybe I’ll do some projects around home. ๐Ÿ”ฌ I would kind of like to wash my truck on Sunday.

In four weeks on April 4 the sun will be setting at 7:25 pm (Daylight Savings Time),๐ŸŒ„ which is one hour, 32 minutes and 27 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 52 and 30 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 53 and 33 degrees. The record high of 79 degrees was set back in 1950.

I’m still thinking my first camping โ›บ trip will be that week leading up to Easter. I’m still weighing Central NY versus the Adirondacks and North Country. ๐Ÿ—ป Some will have to do with how much snow is left at that point. CNY would have better fishing opportunities for sure๐ŸŸ but I feel like I haven’t been up north in a long time.

Looking ahead, Spring ๐ŸŒท is in 2 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐ŸŒธ is in 3 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is a month away, Average High is 60 ๐ŸŒผ is in 6 weeks, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 10 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 17 weeks and August ๐ŸŒป is in 21 weeks.
