April 20, 2019 Evening

Good evening! Cloudy and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a south-southeast breeze at 11 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 57 degrees. The rain is done for the remainder of the weekend but not much sun is expected. The skies will clear Thursday around 5 am. It is what it is.

Today was a pretty rainy day โ˜” until around the three o’clock hour. Then it started to clear out. I went down to the library for a while uploaded some content I’ve been working on for the blog. While today has been a pretty wet day – my downstairs floors are all quite damp – it been pretty mild and I’ve been enjoying the fresh air. ๐Ÿ’ฆHopefully though it will dry out soon or I’m going to have get some bleach down to fight the certain mildew.

Today is 420 day and while I don’t smoke pot for the most part, I’ve playing with the GRASS functions in QGIS. ๐ŸŒŽ I’m too cheap and too broke after saving to buy marijuana much less alcohol but I sure like open source software. ๐Ÿ”“ Even once it’s legal in a few months. The GRASS system ๐ŸŒพ is really powerful but has a steep learning curve, although now that’s integrated into QGIS its easy once you learn the functions to call. The next thing is to figure out how to script it. My interest lately has been doing more advanced things with the digital elevation models data and simplify it enough to use with Google Maps. ๐ŸŒ

The sun will set at 7:43 pm with dusk around 8:13 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 65 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a south-southeast breeze at 14 mph.

I thought ๐Ÿ’ญ about going to the grocery store today and maybe to get some epoxy but I will hold off on that for a while I think. I’m going to have to but groceries mid week for camping, so why make two trips with my fossil fuel burner.๐Ÿš™ I almost thought about hiking down to the Normans Kill Gorge to see all the water raging but it’s already getting late and with the skies being fairly cloudy its going to get dark early๐Ÿ˜•. Maybe that’s where I will hike on Easter Sunday.

Other things on my bucket list for today ๐Ÿ“ƒ are to load my camping gear into the truck and work on soldering together the other sign module I have. Lately I’ve not been working on as many electronics projects probably because I’ve been spending so much time on either the excerise bike ๐Ÿšฒ or working on mapping things and other coding projects.๐ŸŒ

I finally got the cellphone ๐Ÿ“ฑ holder I ordered from China in March. For a $1.90 it’s pretty solid unit that fits very snuggly to the vent of my truck. The old one I had was falling apart after I dropped it a while back. I think the old one it was ten dollars at Wal-Mart, came in ten times more packaging. Ali Express for certain things like simple electronics is really great if you are willing to wait.

Tonight will have a chance of showers, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 52 degrees at 4am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 30th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. South wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had partly cloudy in the evening, which became mostly sunny by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 34 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1875.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon ๐ŸŒ– with 91% illuminated with the moon rising at 9:15 pm. The moon will set at 7:42 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Thursday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 6:05 am with the first light at 5:35 am, which is one minute and 33 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 10 hours and 20 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of showers after 10am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 68 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical day around May 10th. Maximum dew point of 49 at 7am. South wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy. The high last year was 60 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. .6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

In four weeks on May 18 the sun will be setting at 8:14 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 30 minutes and 47 seconds later then today. In 2018 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 73 and 51 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 70 and 48 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 2017.

Looking ahead, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 1 week, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 2 weeks, Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 4 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 6 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 2 months, Average High is 80 ๐Ÿ– is in 9 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 12 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 3 months, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 18 weeks, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 22 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป is in 21 months.

Oxbow Pond Trail & Long Swing Trail

This afternoon

After hiking to the terminus of the East Branch Trail I went back to the Fox Lair campsite and stopped at the picnic table there for a second time. I really wished I had camped there but at this point I didn’t feel like moving camp.โ›บ That site is really scenic but it can be rather cold and I was afraid it could be quite muddy especially when it starts to rain.

While I’ve camped there before I’ve never headed all the away along old Route 8 to where it connects up with the modern alignment๐Ÿฏ. Some interesting old stairs, foundation and obviously an old road bed of Route 8.

Campsite 3 is located back there and it looks like that bridge has been repaired going back there. That said, I was disappointed to see some asshole had dumped a bunch of tires and a couch back there๐Ÿ˜ค. Don’t ruin the wilderness for the rest of us. I don’t care if you dump garbage on your own land or if you live out in the sticks, get a case of budweiser and invite your friends to a couch burning party๐Ÿ”ฅ. But don’t dump your crap on public lands. Obviously the owner had a truck, he probably spent more on gasoline hauling it up here then to the dump. ๐ŸšฏI like how remote that campsite is and how much sun there would be for solar but I bet it’s super hot in the summer. Plus while they’ve repaired the bridge going back there I’m still a little sketched out by the hundred year old girders holding up the cement plate.๐Ÿ˜ฎ I doubt it gets the inspections that public roads get.

All and all a good day so far. I’m going to make pizza ๐Ÿ• in a bit.
