Get up and move – spring is here so start walking
When I shop I always park in a distant parking spot. Too hard to get into a close space plus I'm lazy when it comes to parking.

I occasionally requests I get from people is to obtain printed versions of the maps that I feature on my blog. I’ve never seriously thought about selling hard-copy maps, but it’s one I’m starting to investigate more thoroughly based on the handful of inquiries I get and the relatively-high prices many other people charge.π€ At the same time the stylistic quality of my maps has improved, as QGIS has included more advanced features in their free GIS program and my skill and knowledge have improved with the software. More free, useful public data is now available for download from the Internet too. I’m very excited about when I upgrade to QGIS 3.0 this spring time.
Making the maps is a relatively easy proposition for me, but getting them printed at an affordable rate is more of a challenge. I should learn more about glossy water resistant card stock and what the costs are for small runs of maps at local printshops. I know they make various types of water resistant card stock, which I think most people would prefer over something that was actually laminated in plastic.πΊ If I found a product that was quality, and found the price, the next thing would be figure out what a reasonable price for my labor is. I’m guessing most of my maps that I would sell would be custom laid out, although I guess I could also sell maps that I have displayed on my blog.
I have in the past made a little money on making maps for various causes, although I admit most of map making has been volunteer in nature. πBut that’s fine because I’m learning new skills and getting my name out there. But if there is a product in demand that I could make affordable — possibly well below price of big professional types — it might be worth my effort. It’s something I’m chewing over.

Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 42. Typical average high for the weekend is 55 degrees. Going to be mad cold this weekend but maybe with the clouds the fishing🎣 will be good after I run to the transfer station.
Last night I went to the car wash and cleaned the salt off of Big Red.🛀 I am hoping winter is pretty much done now and they won’t keep applying road salt. Then it’s just back to washing the mud off after my adventures.🌳 I will probably put another clear coat over the few little rust spots that are popping up on my truck in a few weeks.
Then I went to Wally World picked up some contact solution and supplies. 👀I found a small sample bottle of contact solutions that I had gotten the last time my eyes checked but I knew that would quickly run out.👖 Also bought another pair of jeans and more food to make it through the week.
I like those self service check out lanes at Walmart. 💸 I know people complain they are taking away jobs but there is never a line, they are fast and easy and you can know which bag the food was put in. I’ve never had a problem with the machines. Technology is the future, so we shouldn’t be luddites.
Returned a bunch of plastic bags for recycling. I tell myself I probably should use the reusable bags but I always forget them.β» In the summer the plastic bags are great for holding camp food and storing the day’s garbage before its burnt. They aren’t really that much plastic in the grand scheme of things.🔥
Started working on building a sign with Styrofoam board but quit after getting frustrated on how difficult it is cut cleanly. It’s a nice soft material to work with and it’s cheap but the edges always come out so ragged and not straight. β The material side of things is the most difficult part of building electronics and working with micro-controllers. I guess Styrofoam board isn’t environmentally friendly but not much with electronics is except to fact you can keep things out of the landfill longer by rebuilding. 🌎 Says the boy with the jacked up truck who uses styrofoam plates while camping. 😂 I wish I could find better, easy to work with, nicer materials for use at home. Been exploring clear PETE pipe for the message signs, but that can be hard to buy at an affordable rate.
Continuing to research credit cards that offer a cash back rewards. I’m thinking about canceling my LL Bean card in favor of one that is actually more useful for my needs. I buy nearly everything on plastic, so it would actually earn me maybe $50-100 a year. 💳Which isn’t a lot of money but it’s better than pissing away rewards. One card I applied to offered a $25,000 limit which I declined because I feel like that kind of limit invites fraud and its not worth it for some marginal bump in my credit score, which is a bit shity because I don’t have a credit history and I paid my electric bill late one month by accident. Damn autopay. 😒I don’t care. It’s not like I’m planning to buy a home or anything in credit in the near future. When I buy land for my off grid cabin 🏡 eventually I’ll hopefully be able to pay cash. I don’t want to deal with banks and a small off grid cabin is likely to be less expensive even if owning a lot of land in rural areas that is low cost.
Traffic on the way home wasn’t too bad. 🚌 I don’t really know, I was reading the news on my phone. I’ve been making this commute for ten and a half years now, so it all blends together as one. 🚍Old NOVA from 1999, the wind it was getting pushed around on the road.
Cooked up one of those frozen pasta mix with chicken and vegetables which was good for a change. 🍜 It was a nice dinner, fairly affordable and not a lot of packaging to dispose of or dishes to wash.
Now listening to the Marketplace on NPR, with my new transistor radio. 📻It still works pretty good and I feel like I am a lot more informed about the news. Market news is important to me even though the day to day news doesn’t really effect my future.
I am going to head down to the library in a bit then I will build another USB warm white led, π‘ maybe to keep in my office for when I work late🔦 and illuminate the area behind my monitor.
In four weeks on May 2 the sun will be setting at 7:57 pm,🌄 which is 31 minutes and 48 seconds later then today. In 2017 on that day, we had rain, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 64 and 49 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 65 and 43 degrees. The record high of 88 degrees was set back in 2001. It’s hard to believe that May is less than 30 days away.
