August 14, 2018 Night

Good evening! Another rather muggy summer night with a few sprinkles hear and there but also clearing out a bit around 74 degrees in Delmar. πŸŒƒ Calm wind. The dew point is 68 degrees. Enjoy the muggy nights, cold weather will be upon us soon enough. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 am.

While there was a constant threat of rain, it actually turned out to be a nice evening, πŸŒ‡ a bit with some rain showers. I ended up deciding on walking down to the library because I was worried about rain if I went to the park and honestly it gets dark much too early these days. Sat out back for a while 🌌 but then I headed in because my eyes are a bit irritated πŸ‘€ so I wanted to take my contacts out and my phone battery was almost dead. πŸ“± Solar panel did leave my truck fully charged by the time I was out there tonight.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy β˜” , with a low of 66 degrees at 3am. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 8pm. Light west wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2017, we had partly cloudy skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 64 degrees. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1964.

Tonight had a Waxing Crescent MoonΒ πŸŒ™ with 19% illuminated. It has set. Not that you would have seen much with the clouds. The moon will rise again tomorrow at 10:52 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night with partly cloudy skies. The Strugeon Moon 🌝 is on Saturday, August 25th. The sun will rise at 6:01 am with the first light at 5:31 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„Tonight will have 10 hours and 5 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 86 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 10am. West wind 5 to 11 mph. Going to be a hot day, that breeze will be nice. Maybe with the breeze it actually won’t feel that hot. Especially in an air conditioned office. A year ago, we had cloudy skies, clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1959.

The weekend forecast continues to be decent although Saturday is now trending cloudier and cooler. ☁ Saturday, a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 66 at 6am. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 80. Maximum dew point of 63 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees.

Still looking at going out to Schoharie County for this weekend, β›Ί and then maybe the Adirondacks next weekend or maybe just Labor Day Weekend depending on the weather. I want to enjoy summer before it’s gone, especially now that the sun is setting much earlier as we head into the second half of August. πŸŒ„ I still like the idea of Moose River for Labor Day Weekend but it all depends on the weather and my schedule with work. 🚣I’m still hopeful I can make it happen but not in the pouring rain. 🌻Been so wet lately around.

In four weeks on September 11 the sun will be setting at 7:11 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 46 minutes and 17 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had patches of fog, partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 74 and 44 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 54 degrees. The record high of 98 degrees was set back in 1931. This time of year both the daylight and the temperature start to drop quickly as we head into autumn. πŸ‚ It’s just part of the changing seasons and I kind of like it even if it means not going to the park as much after work. But soon I’ll be out of town for work, enjoying new experiences so I won’t notice the early sunset as much I don’t think.

Looking ahead, More Night then Day 🌌 is in 6 weeks, Election Day 2018 πŸ—³οΈ is in 12 weeks, Average Night Below Freezing 🌌 is in 13 weeks, Christmas πŸŽ… is in 19 weeks, New Years Day 2019 πŸŽ‰ is in 20 weeks, 36th Birthday πŸŽ‰ is in 24 weeks and Election Day 2020 πŸ—³οΈ is in 116 weeks.

Plymouth Mail robbery – Wikipedia

"The Plymouth Mail robbery, or what the press dubbed "The Great Plymouth Mail Truck Robbery" was, at the time of its occurrence, the largest cash heist of all time. On August 14, 1962, two gunmen stopped a U.S. Mail truck that was delivering $1.5 million in small bills from Cape Cod to the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston, Massachusetts. The hijacking occurred on Route 3 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The two robbers, dressed as police officers and brandishing submachine guns, tied up the driver of the truck and the guard and drove the truck themselves to places unknown, where the money was dropped off in several places. The truck and its two tied-up occupants were abandoned in Randolph, Massachusettsalongside Route 128."
