Cold Weather Comes Back for Sunday

The average temperature for the weekend is a high 44 degrees with a low of 26 degrees. Saturday will get up to 45 degrees, but Sunday the cold blast comes back… a high of 31 degrees and low of 9 degrees. The cold doesn’t want to give up until it finally runs of out of gas, as spring creeps back.

Good Morning! Happy Icy Thursday.

Winter is back for another punch. But I made it home and safely back to work, so I can't complain that much. Getting closer to spring too.

Today is a cold and snowy morning. The wind was whipping around at the bus stop, and the best way to describe the roads is greasy this morning. Much better then last night, when the roads were icy from the freezing rain and sleet that fell around 6 PM last night. But even so this morning, the bus is doing some interesting side-by-side motion on the expressway. I believe they call that fish-tailing. The ramp onto I-787 was slowed to a crawl as everybody drove slow with the bad roads.

I think this was the worst storm all year for bad roads, even if the actual amount of accumulation of snow wasn’t that bad. It just was a lot of ice, sleet, and freezing rain combined with some pretty serious winds.

Otsego Lake

Winter, as they say. But if you don’t count today, we are down to 7 days until calender spring. A week from Friday starts calender spring, but knowing how this winter is going, it probably will snow on the first day of spring.

Sunday is Daylight Savings Time

Next weekend starts daylight savings time.... should be nice having more daylight in the evening, despite it being somewhat darker in the morning.

A lot of people are complaining about the early week for the start of daylight savings time, but I don’t know, I would prefer to have more daylight in the evening then in the morning. I would rather have some daylight when I get out of work and deal with somewhat darker mornings – although as I am a 9-5 employee, the mornings really aren’t too dark either.

I look forward to having a daylight in the evening to go down to the park and read, although days will have to get a fair bit longer and the snow will have to melt first. But those days can’t be too far away.

Sunrise at the Campsite

Winter is rapidly starting to fade away, even if the mercury isn’t showing it the past few days. The reality is if it’s below 20 degrees all day in March then when we switch to above average temperature it will be in the 50s and 60s, and the snow will rapidly melt away. Usually in the Albany area in the spring, we have weather in the 20s until a high front comes through, and it goes up to the 70s and 80s.

Breaking Thru

I won’t get my hopes up to high. It may warm up — even be oppressively hot in March or April, but spring really won’t come until late April in the lowest elevations, and not until mid-May in the Adirondacks.
