It’s the thought that counts
The problem with wokerism is not that it emphasizes inclusiveness or diversity of thought and backgrounds. That is it’s strength. The problem is it often non-serious about bringing diverse people into the fold, but instead is too much about platitudes rather then concrete actions to strengthen society’s institutions through diversity.
Truth is that both the left and right are guilty of seeing problems but not taking action. The MAHA movement with it’s crunchy-take on health, very accurately points out the deficicies in public health today, but much like Woke, are about little more then meaningless gestures about the very real problems they see.
Solving difficult problems is often difficult. It’s easy to find problems in society, but it’s much more difficult to fix them. But neither the Woke nor the MAHA seem serious at solving the very real problems facing society – instead preferring vague statements rather then concrete actions.
Another rainy Saturday on tap β
The man on social media report says it’s been 28 weeks where it’s rained or snowed during the weekend. Last weekend wasn’t so wet but this Saturday certainly was and I plan to stay home, ready and study.
Kind of starting the day out slow. π₯ Cornmeal pancakes with garlic, onions, spinach and more wheat flour and oatmeal then usual but I didn’t have a lot of cornmeal so it worked out pretty good. Made up a 2 lb of beans on the stove, then some rice and beans. π
Just a lot of reading and spending time at home today. π Maybe the rain will let up later, I’m not sure but if I can’t get out and ride this evening I’ll probably go out tomorrow. Going to be cloudy but not wet tomorrow. Not sure what the plans are for tomorrow besides visiting the folks π¨βπ¨βπ¦.
Last night I went to Pine Hollow Arboretum πͺ· and spent about an hour poking around the lands, enjoying the Giant Laurel and Dogwood which were out in bloom. Really pretty quite pretty. I should try to get down there more often. And then I rode back through Slingerlands on some of the back streets. Probably rode 30 miles on Friday, which is pretty much what I did on Wednesday and Thursday, which ain’t bad. Not sure how many days I’ll be able to ride in though next week.
Next weekend is the Gas Up π, I might do that with dad or alone. It looking like rain for next weekend too. Oh well, it is what is. Also thinking about doing a trip up to Vermont next weekend or weekend after, to ride trail and maybe hike. Then in two weeks after that is Juneteenth Weekend and I want to do the Potholers for four nights. ποΈ
Replaced the electric toothbrush I got a few months back, πͺ₯that already stopped work as I had feared. π¦· Wasn’t the batteries, it seems like the motor. It’s not a big expense to replace at $7, and indeed I discovered the heads are removable and probably it will burn up to nothing once tossed in that white bag. π₯ Still I was a bit annoyed, but it does do such a better job at cleaning the teeth, which ultimately is what is important. βΊοΈ Rather not loose my teeth or have cavities even if it does mean a bit more plastic going up to smoke from time to time.
Trump’s pro-bono deals with law firms are confusing
How can a law firm agree to represent a client pro-bono on behest of an agreement with the US President against the the government itself? It seems like ripe conflict of interest to have a private law firm representing a private individual against the government on behest of the government.
While there is some history of the government supporting not-for-profits that advance the private interests against the government – such as legal aid services for the poor or utility intervenors – it’s seems like Trump’s agreement with certain law firms is much more specific on who will be helped under these agreements. When the government is actively supporting private parties against itself – rather broad classes of people needing justice – it seems confusing at best and a worse a conflict of interest.
The government should be fighting for the public interest, and if a policy is contrary to public interest then the government should not be perusing it.
The sun ain’t working any more βοΈ
Another cloudy day out today, though some of it apparently is wildfire haze again. Maybe not as a bad 2023, but still not a brilliant summer’s day. In the mid-70s so not too cold but rain is coming by later in the evening.
Decided to wear shorts to work today, π©³ which is generally allowed on non-session days as we are fairly casual, and it’s not like I am meeting with the public or members working in the data office. Another day working with staff to try to get the robo dialer working again, and continuing to code educators in the system.
Riding to work this morning, π² not a half bad day. Listening to something, not sure what but maybe one of the audio books I have to listen to. π
Rainy weekend ahead, at least Saturday. β Nature Bus goes to Five Rivers this weekend, so it seems like I won’t be taking that to Thacher Park on Saturday, and most likely will just end up staying home. It’s fine, I’ll do some reading and hanging out. Sunday now looks increasingly cloudy, but if it’s nice, I might go out fishing at Partridge Run π£ and maybe ride trail for the balance of the day.
Totally got yelled at again by the woke bird watcher at Five Rivers π¦
Apparently he was listening to birds in the parking lot, and found it very upsetting that I could dare pull up to the parking lot with my Bluetooth speaker playing a podcast about moral mushroom hunting. I had no idea, I thought it was yapping on his cellphone, on his way out of lot in Subaru so he could head home and eat his organic pre-cooked mashed potatoes. I hate woke people so much.
I decided yet again to ride out to Five Rivers, πΈ after a dinner of shredded onions, corn, broccoli and shrimp that I cooked down in a pan with a bit of salt. Simple basic meal, there aren’t many I don’t do with onions. Breakfast was cornmeal pancakes with onions and spinach. Mixed in some Greek yogurt for protein. Desert tonight was frozen strawberries, oatmeal and Greek yogurt shredded in the food processor.
The past few days I’ve been getting a late start, β° because hte mornings have been fairly dark but also I’ve been up later for spring time, so I sleep in later. Truth is since I started getting up early at times, I’ve quit pretty much using an alarm clock. So no real time to work on the blog. Things have been pretty swamped in the office too, π’ the robo dialer system went down, I’ve been getting constant data requests from clients, writing a lot of code for work, testing and breaking things, and a million other things. Been kind of a headache at work but the week has gone by fast.
I was sure I would get soaked this evening at work riding home, β or at least down to the express bus stop, but it stopped raining for the evening commute and cleared out by the time I got home and out to Five Rivers. π Actually, a real pretty sunset. This morning I was listening to some of Missouri Solar and Wind’s podcasts about the latest in Off-Grid solar technology and other basics, and then it ended up switching over to the Pastured Pig π½ Podcast, you know that West Virginia off-gridder I follow – – Red House Toolkt — who makes a life off the side of a mountain in the wilds of West VIrigina.
