John Boyd Thacher State Park

John Boyd Thacher State Park, is situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. Even as it safeguards six miles of limestone cliff-face, rock-strewn slopes, woodland and open fields, the park provides a marvelous panorama of the Hudson-Mohawk Valleys and the Adirondack and Green Mountains. The park has volleyball courts, playgrounds, ball fields and numerous picnic areas with nine reservable shelters. Interpretive programs are offered year-round, including guided tours of the famous Indian Ladder Trail. There are over 25 additional miles of trails for summer hiking and mountain biking, and winter cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling.

While I should do this more frequently, I finally checked …

While I should do this more frequently, I finally checked www.annualcreditreport.com, which is the US government’s authorized way to getting your annual credit report for free. No surprises here, but I have to admit I hadn’t checked it in quite a while.

I probably should check it more often – one of my credit cards I’ve had for years was closed last month due to inactivity. Which is fine, but it’s kind of good to know before I tried to use it somewhere. I don’t remember the bank notifying me about the closed account. Which means I now have less credit then probably most dogs in America, and while credit score is in the shitter because I told the bank to give me low credit limit far below was authorized, but I don’t care as I rarely buy things.

I should be more careful. One of my bank accounts passwords were hacked a while back (but stopped by two-way authentication and a call from the bank), and I had that issue with that gun that I tried to buy a few years back at a famously anti-second amendment Big Box retailer that is locally all around and famously shitty to do business. I was denied because I was told that I had previously tried to purchase it somewhere else as labeled a Straw Buyer in NICS over the transaction. I never got any answers on that from the store or the police department, but I think the clerk just entered the wrong store number. Yeah, I’m still bitter about that one.

Daily Update – November 10, 2022

Good morning! Happy Thursday.

Nice morning today on this pseudo Friday as tomorrow is Veterans Day Weekend. Too bad two inches of rain is coming our way come Friday afternoon from a hurricane.

Sunny and 37 degrees at the Elm Ave Town Park. 🌞 Calm wind. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 4 am. β˜ƒοΈ

It would be a beautiful morning πŸŒ„ to be sitting out at camp with a cup of coffee β˜• next to the heater watching the sun rise. But calendar πŸ—“ it doesn’t work for me so I’m out walking 🚢 this morning, will have breakfast πŸ₯ž and then shower 🚿 and head to work.

I often think about all the interesting — and time saving things — I’ve learned in R over the past year and a half. On Election Night, I wrote a script that used a headless Firefox browser and Selenium to pull Election Results in real-time and process it into an a Google Spreadsheet. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked, and how with a few extra lines of code I could pipe it into ggplot and make all kinds of maps.

The New York City Gubernatorial maps I posted where much the same way. I took data from several NYC Election Night Results pages, aggregated it into a data frame, cleaned up and formatted the data, then piped it through to ggplot with some nice styling.

Every day, I try to learn and experiment in new directions, build my skills further. As I only become faster and more talented at using R the more I use it and learn the many shortcuts and libraries out there for writing better code, quicker.

I am disappointed as it was going to be a long weekend and I thought it would be a nice weekend to head out to Cazenovia before riffle season. β›Ί Maybe in December I’ll do that trip or maybe just the horse 🐴 camp in Brookfield. Or the Adirondacks πŸ—» after Thanksgiving. πŸ¦ƒ

Daily Update – November 9, 2022

Good morning! Happy Wednesday.

As Friday is Veterans Day, already the weekend is more than halfway over.

Sunny and 33 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. 🌞 Calm wind. Seasonably cold this morning but with the sun feels like a beautiful November day. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

After being up really early to see the lunar eclipse πŸŒ’ on Tuesday I slept into 7 pm today. But I’m hopeful that I can get my steps πŸ‘£ in today like I did yesterday though not by a lot.

Today if I have time, I want to go through the Election Results πŸ—³ and see what I can learn from studying the numbers.πŸ”Ž Maybe maybe make up some maps πŸ—Ί and graphs. πŸ“Š That said I’m not sure how many surprises there will be an a ED by ED breakdown probable won’t be available in most counties until the final canvas around Thanksgiving.

Was I trilled about the Election Results? 🐴 Probably not, but I did my part and voted. I don’t get super political these days, and I see the writing on the wall. Maybe it’s a good thing, it will be interesting to see if the state moves forward on their aggressive green energy and climate goals. Maybe the technology is there now, but I have questions. 🌎 It always seems so quiet and different once the elections are done.
