John Boyd Thacher State Park

John Boyd Thacher State Park, is situated along the Helderberg Escarpment, one of the richest fossil-bearing formations in the world. The park has volleyball courts, playgrounds, ball fields and numerous picnic areas with nine reservable shelters. Interpretive programs are offered year-round, including guided tours of the famous Indian Ladder Trail. There are over 25 additional miles of trails for summer hiking and mountain biking, and winter cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and snowmobiling.

February 10, 2023 Night

Good evening! Another work week has come to the end, the weekend has arrived. Should be a nice one but maybe a bit cool on Saturday compared to the rest of the warm winter this year. But it’s a relative thing.

Partly cloudy ๐ŸŒƒ and 41 degrees in Delmar for the evening walk. ๐Ÿšถ I swear I felt a few rain โ˜” drops mid walk. There is a west-northwest breeze at 10 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing around 1 am.

Walking home from the Park and Ride lot ๐Ÿ…ฟ I was thinking this was the last time I’ll have to do it but I might continue to get off there if the weather is nice on days when I have to dress up for work. But those days when the weather is bad the express is a good option and I don’t have to depend on asking the driver to drop me off at home. ๐Ÿก Plus it’s really good for all those session mornings and it gets me to the office ๐Ÿข a little earlier than which is good as a director to be in early.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers between 1am and 2am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 15th. West wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1962.

Last month, January my gas and electric bill was $103 which isn’t bad figuring its January and inflation. ๐Ÿ”Œ I don’t like paying much for gas and electricity as I don’t think I get much value out of it. It was outside of that first week of February that one Friday and Saturday a very mild month and I’ve been keeping my heat to a minimum level especially now that I have that heated blanket. But it’s mostly been do to that very mild weather.

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 75% illuminated. The moon will rise at 10:28 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:11 am, followed by dawn at 6:31 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:00 am in the east-southeast (109ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 4 seconds.

Pasta for dinner tonight. ๐Ÿ That used to be my go to but it has a lot of calories and it’s not real filling so I eat too much. I just abided by the one bowl rule, no second helpings, included a lot frozen corn ๐ŸŒฝ and had a bunch of frozen strawberries and bananas for dessert. And now I have at least two or three more meals I’ll freeze for next week for lunch and dinner. I try to mix things up.

Sunrise is one minute and 16 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:41 am with sun in the east-southeast (116ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 34 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over last night.

Going to bed ๐Ÿ› fairly early as I want to walk down to the Norman’s Kill Gorge ๐Ÿž before the crowds. ๐Ÿ‘ช Maybe leave as soon as dawn for the falls at 6:30. It’s a reheat breakfast morning so it should be quick and easy.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 8 to 13 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1981. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1933.โ„

In four weeks on March 10 the sun will be setting in the west (265ยฐ) at 5:56 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 5 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 20 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 24 degrees. The record high of 72 degrees was set back in 1977.

Looking forward to the longer evenings ahead. ๐Ÿ“š Already thinking about going down to the park in the evening with a book, or even just for a nice walk. Four weeks from Sunday that will be possible with the time change. ๐Ÿ•’

Looking ahead, 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is Next Friday, St. Patrick’s Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 5 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 8 weeks, 8 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 2 months, Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  is in 12 weeks, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 3 months, National Nude Day ๐Ÿ‘ฑ is in 22 weeks, Average High 70 ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 29 weeks, September ๐ŸŽ is in 29 weeks, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 29 weeks, 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 7 months, Autumn ๐Ÿ‚ is in 32 weeks, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 41 weeks, December ๐ŸŽ„ is in 42 weeks, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 10 months, Bill of Rights Day ๐Ÿ“œ is in 44 weeks and Days are Getting Longer โ˜€๏ธ is in 45 weeks.

Sledding Hill

February 10, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Cloudy and a mild 44 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a southwest breeze at 7 mph. ๐Ÿƒ with gusts up to 21 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Today is Clean Your Computer ๐Ÿ–ฅ Day, which is a good thing to do. I end up with a shit ton of files ๐Ÿ“‚ in my downloads folder as I use my laptop for work and play and I often download files from email to edit and review and then they get left in the folder, often poorly labeled. ๐Ÿ”–

I have to say I’m well over dressed for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ. I should have done just the vest. Really feels like more of a rainy โ˜” April day. Maybe a bit more of a dose of reality come Saturday but not really. May be one of the longest stretches of 40 degrees weather in February should it hit 40 on Saturday. Ton of dog ๐Ÿถ walkers out this morning. Hey, I live in yuppieville.

Today will have a slight chance of showers before 9am. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 50 degrees at 11am. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 27th. But what is normal these days? Windy, with a west wind 6 to 16 mph increasing to 16 to 26 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 25 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1955. 4.0 inches of snow fell back in 1892.โ„

I am excited about the Voorheesville bus ๐Ÿš passing my house again, especially the 8:26 run downtown. While I normally take the express from the Park and Ride ๐ŸšI don’t in bad weather or session days when I have to dress up for work. But now I don’t have that excuse again. I’d much rather take the express. Truth is on nice days, โ˜€ I can still walk down to the Park and Ride or stop and catch the bus at any of the designated locations along the way if I’m running late. ๐Ÿƒ

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 33ยฐ from the due south horizon (-37.8ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.2 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:40 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (244ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:21 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 5:49 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:23 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ŸŒƒ and temperatures around 44 degrees. Breezy, 24 mph breeze โ›… from the west with gusts up to 45mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over today.

Come Monday I’m thinking about walking before breakfast ๐ŸŒ„ as that gives me a little bit more flexibility with my schedule and I like walking earlier when there is less traffic. Might be a bit dark but sun is rising earlier and earlier.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 15th. Breezy, with a west wind around 22 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1962.

Same old today a work today ๐Ÿข then get home. I might go to the library tonight ๐Ÿ“š, I’m undecided. I was thinking it’s been a while since I have hiked down to Norman’s Kill Gorge so I could do that if I did it early enough before the yuppies take over the rail trail. It would be more protected if it’s really windy in the morning. Tomorrow is a breakfast reheat day so I could be out by 6:30.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 37 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 18th. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 9 to 14 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 26 degrees. The record high of 59 was set in 1981. 9.6 inches of snow fell back in 1933.โ„

Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 45. South wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

As previously noted, next Friday is 5:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ when the sun will be setting at 5:30 pm with dusk at 5:58 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 24 and 13 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 36 degrees. We hit a record high of 60 back in 1981.

Man's Footprint

February 9, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Cloudy and 41 degrees in Delmar for the evening walk. โ˜๏ธ Breezy, ๏ธ16 mph breeze from the south-southeast ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 30 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ. There is a inch of snow on the ground. โ˜ƒ ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at Saturday around 1 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Kind of chilly this evening with the wind ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ but I’m out walking because that’s what I do in the evening. One of my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ is a bit irritated and I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด as I didn’t sleep well last night as I was a bit bothered by the news of Ward Stone’s passing. The high cost of politics. I think it’s better to focus on making money ๐Ÿ’ต and looking the other way as your community is going to shit.

Tonight will rain likely before 10pm, then a chance of showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 6pm. 26 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. South wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

Somebody brought in doughnuts ๐Ÿฉ to work today and I walked right on by. Sugar is ducking poison โ˜  I told myself and walked on by. I don’t need the free food, I’m not starving. Having that bowl of oranges, apples and bananas in my office really helps. ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŒ I eat a couple throughout the day whenever I’m hungry and I have a lot more energy. And if turns out it’s actually cheaper than eating bigger meals. ๐Ÿด Pasta, frozen chicken, sauce seems cheap – if you buy in bulk but it’s not if you end up eating a ton of it, ignoring the health impacts. But if you’re eating fruits and vegetables all day long ๐Ÿฅฆ you feel far less hungry. ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿผ

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 84% illuminated. The moon will rise at 9:21 pm. The Snow โ„ Moon is on Saturday, February 25. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:32 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:02 am in the east-southeast (110ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 4 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 15 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:42 am with sun in the east-southeast (117ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 35 seconds over last night.

Today I found they are extending the 519 bus to Voorheesville. ๐Ÿš Kind of happy ๐Ÿ˜Š about being able to catch the express in front of my apartment as it makes for an easier commute on session days or bad weather when I don’t want to necessarily walk down to the express.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 48 degrees at 10am. 13 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 22nd. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. A year ago, we had snow in the morning, which became snow by afternoon. The high last year was 25 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1955. 4.0 inches of snow fell back in 1892.โ„

Saturday I’m thinking of sanding and painting that rust spot on my passenger door of my truck. Figure arrest the rust the best I can while I still can. ๐Ÿ›ป๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ And maybe do an early morning walk ๐Ÿšถ down to Norman’s Kills Falls.

In four weeks on March 9 the sun will be setting in the west (265ยฐ) at 5:55 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 12 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 50 and 27 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 24 degrees. The record high of 81 degrees was set back in 2016.

Looking ahead, Read Across America Day ๐Ÿ“š is in 3 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 2 months, Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ is in 11 weeks, 8:30 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 12 weeks, 8 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 12 weeks, 9 PM Dusk ๐ŸŒ† is in 16 weeks, June ๐Ÿน is in 16 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 17 weeks, Ugly Truck Day ๐Ÿšš is in 23 weeks, Campfire Day ๐Ÿ”ฅ is in 25 weeks, Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 35 weeks, Average High is 60 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 36 weeks, Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ is in 41 weeks, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 10 months, Earliest Sunset of the Year โŒ›๏ธ is in 10 months, First Day of Winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ is in 45 weeks and 4:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 46 weeks.

At some point I might crunch 2018 and earlier back to 2011, but the problem I run into is the Board of Elections Enrollments are in PDF format which are slightly more difficult to process compared to Excel files they’ve used since 2019.

February 9, 2023 Morning

Good morning! Firery red skies to the south east and 22 degrees for the morning walk. ๐ŸŒ… Calm wind for now. ๏ธThings will start to thaw out at around 8 am. ๐ŸŒก๏ธThen more rain. That should kill off most of the remaining snow.

Skies are certainly colorful for the morning walk ๐Ÿšถ but it’s a sure sign of the coming clouds and rain. I will try to get as many steps as possible in before the rain, probably walking the Concourse and museum at lunch time so I have my ten k in without having to walk in the rain โ˜”.

Out walking by 6:30 which is good ๐Ÿฅž though it’s still to dark to walk before breakfast at six but maybe next week. I generally like walking earlier in the morning when it’s quieter out. Also if I walk first then I feel like time is less compressed in the morning. ๐Ÿ—œ

Today will rain, mainly after 11am. ๐ŸŒง High of 42 degrees at 4pm. Seven degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 6th. Light south wind increasing to 12 to 17 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. I’m old enough to remember when it snowed in the winter but not this year. A year ago, we had snow in the morning, which became snow by afternoon. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 1925. 13.7 inches of snow fell back in 1906.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 32.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-38.2ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 4:39 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (244ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ

The sunset is in the west-southwest (251ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:19 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 5:48 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:22 pm. At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 42 degrees. Breezy, 17 mph breeze โ›… from the south-southeast with gusts up to 30mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 24 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 36 seconds over today.

Tonight will rain likely before midnight, then a chance of showers, mainly between midnight and 5am. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 42 degrees at 6pm. 26 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. South wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 12 degrees. The record low of -21 occurred back in 1948.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Northwest wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.

Maybe a bit breezy but the sunshine โ˜€ should be nice. Still think this should be a stay at home weekend though I’m considering stopping by Indian Lader Farms ๐Ÿ and doing some bird ๐Ÿฆ watching at the marsh out in Voorheesville though with the muck boots ๐Ÿ‘ข on.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Read Across America Day ๐Ÿ“š when the sun will be setting at 5:47 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. On that day in 2022, we had cold, mostly sunny and temperatures between 24 and 9 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 65 back in 1991.

Sun Through the Trees

February 8, 2023 Evening

Good evening! Mostly clear and 35 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒƒ There is a north-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. ๏ธTemperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. โ˜ƒ๏ธ Everything is dry so that doesn’t matter but the air feels chilly already.

Halfway or technically 3/5th the way through the work week. ๐Ÿข Final session day of the week so it’s back to the express bus ๐Ÿš tomorrow. Ag Tiktok keeps me entertained on the local, especially for the evening commute which always seems long but not flipping through videos involving dirt, diesel and cattle. It’s remarkable how fast time goes past when doing that.

Tonight will have increasing clouds โ˜, with a low of 26 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 15th. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 8 degrees. The record low of -20 occurred back in 1934.

It’s not a bad evening for the evening walk ๐Ÿšถ but a bit cool and dark without the moonlight this evening. Maybe if I walked later. Cloudy nights are often brighter with light pollution from the city. ๐ŸŒƒ

Tonight will have a Waining Gibbous ๐ŸŒ– Moon with 90% illuminated. The moon will rise at 8:15 pm. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:33 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:03 am in the east-southeast (110ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds.

Tonight I baked up potatoes ๐Ÿฅ” that I got at the farmers market, topped with onions from the farmers market I got two weeks ago and some cheese ๐Ÿง€. Made a full pan up and refrigerated the rest for future use. Pretty good.

Sunrise is one minute and 14 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 7:43 am with sun in the east-southeast (117ยฐ). Tonight will have 13 hours and 39 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a slight chance of rain and snow before 10am, then rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 40 degrees at 4pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 3rd. Light south wind increasing to 11 to 16 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 24 degrees. The record high of 57 was set in 1925. 13.7 inches of snow fell back in 1906.โ„

With the rain โ˜” coming, I’ll have to try and get my steps done early tomorrow. ๐Ÿ‘ฃ I guess whatever. It’s no going to sunny every day โ˜€ though I enjoyed the sun in my office especially in the afternoon. Been a very gray winter.

In four weeks on March 8 the sun will be setting in the west (264ยฐ) at 5:54 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 35 minutes and 18 seconds later then tonight. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 36 and 10 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 42 and 24 degrees. The record high of 68 degrees was set back in 2012.

Looking ahead, tommorow is , March ๐ŸŒจ is in 3 weeks, Ides of March โœ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 13 weeks, Pack Rat Day ๐Ÿ€ is in 14 weeks, 8:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ is in 4 months, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 19 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year ๐Ÿ˜… is in 21 weeks, Dog Days of Summer ๐ŸŒป is in 21 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 29 weeks, More Night then Day ๐ŸŒŒ is in 33 weeks, Last Sunset After 6:30 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 34 weeks, Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 8 months, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 38 weeks, November ๐Ÿฅง is in 38 weeks, Day After Election Day ๐Ÿ›€ is in 9 months and Saint Nicholas Day ๐ŸŽ… is in 43 weeks.

Looking up
