Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA

The Elm Avenue Park and Ride offers a convenient way to get downtown without the hassles of urban traffic. Located next to the Elm Avenue Park at the end of the Delmar Bypass (NY 32), it is serviced by several buses that will quickly transport you downtown.

There is a new, expanded schedule for the Elm Avenue Park and Ride. 5 morning buses depart there, 5 buses in the afternoon plus a mid-day bus schedule. Very convenient. http://www.cdta.org/uploads/Route719.pdf

November 2, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the weekend! Four weeks to Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. Cloudy and 40 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind.Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 3 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

I woke up this morning feeling sick as a dog ๐Ÿถ. I didn’t think I could get that cold from my parents being already sick. I was wrong on that point. I made it to work yesterday and held my head high through the staff meeting mid day but basically after dinner I collapsed in bed.

I wanted to go camping this weekend but I think I’m too sick. ๐Ÿ˜ข The best thing I can do is rest up. Hopefully a restful weekend after getting these two separate cold viruses means I’ll be healthy for the rest of winter. There is always so much to do and I need rest after a stressful week starting my new job. My sister and niece are having a birthday party ๐ŸŽ‚ but I can’t go being so sick.

I got the headlight bulb ๐Ÿ’ก properly replaced with a new one although the bulb they had at Autozone was the same as Walmart but two bucks more. Made sure not to touch the bulb before installing. If they ever blow again I’m going to replace with either LED bulbs or genuine DELCO parts. Seems fine now, the old bulb was open circuit the new one has a resistance of 0.3 ohm which at 14 volts is 60 watts – the bulb is rated 55 watts but the test meter I have has some resistance in the leads.

Now that my headlights are working I can go to the store and get soap ๐Ÿ‘‹ and cough medicine ๐Ÿ˜ท. Things that would have been nice but I couldn’t do this week with the weather. I checked my other lights and they’re good, so I’m ready to get Big Red inspected this month. I do want to check the brake lights but I’ll have to ask somebody to depress the pedal while I check the back, especially the third eye on the truck cap.

Today will be cloudy early, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒƒ, with a high of 49 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 12th. South wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1950. .1 inches of snow fell back in 1911.โ„

The sun will set at 5:47 pm with dusk around 6:16 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 33 degrees at 4am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 9th. South wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2018, we had light rain. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1980.

On the whole I’m happy ๐Ÿ˜Š with my new position. The windowless office kind of in the back makes me feel a bit stuffed in a white cardboard box ๐ŸŽ but it’s fine. I took the position because they needed my help and it’s a good opportunity to meet new people, make connections and further my career. ๐Ÿ’ผ Ultimately making more money ๐Ÿ’ต means more to invest and one step closer to my off grid property.

Staying home this weekend will save money, ๐Ÿ’ฐand honestly I don’t know if the road at White Rocks National Recreation area is closed due to wash outs or trees downโ›”. I think the worse rain and wind was further north but it would be a major bummer to get up there and have to turn back ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ”™. Still paying for vacation and it’s not a real sunny day. โ˜

Right now next weekend looks bitterly cold โ„ but who knows the forecast could change. Sunny but cold weather like late December. And who knows about snow – it looks like it’s November and the snow belt is already getting Lake Effect. I’m still thinking about Stoney Pond outside of Morrisville but not if they’re is any snow or a chance of it.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny skies, with a few passing rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.

November 1, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy November ๐Ÿฅง! I really like the month of November, the mornings are crisp and often sunny, the evenings are long ๐Ÿฆƒ and good for cooking and sitting by the fire. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Four weeks to Buy Nothing Day and the Thanksgiving Friday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. Partly sunny and 48 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Breezy, ๏ธ23 mph breeze from the west ๐ŸŒฌ with gusts up to 41 mph ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ.

Waiting out for the bus at the express bus, ๐ŸšI was a bit concerned for a while that it might not arrive. ๐ŸšŒ But ultimately it did, and I made it downtown in time for work. The wind is pretty crazy downtown, but I am sure it will die down by the time I get into the office, and I won’t notice it at all in my windowless, quiet underground office.

Woke up last night with a bit of congestion and a cough ๐Ÿ˜ฏ but I don’t feel too bad this morning. It seems like it’s been a rough few weeks with being slightly sick although I haven’t missed much work lately and I’ve been getting lots of sleep. Maybe I need to do more hand โœ‹ washing. I know my parents last week had a cold, but i was sick too, so I figured I wouldn’t catch their cold. Go figure.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 52 degrees at 11am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 5th. Going to get a few degrees warmer but by evening will drop into the forties. Windy, with a west wind 22 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1950. 3.9 inches of snow fell back in 1951.โ„

The sun will set at 5:48 pm with dusk around 6:18 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 47 degrees. Breezy, 18 mph breeze โ›… from the west with gusts up to 33mph. Today will have 10 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 24th. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 2002.

Tomorrow which is Saturday will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 51 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 7th. Light and variable wind. Going to be a pretty nice day for November. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1950. A dusting of snow fell back in 1911.โ„ Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, โ˜€ with a high near 48. Light and variable wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Typical average high for the weekend is 53 degrees.

Still thinking about heading up to Vermont to camp ๐Ÿ•and do some hiking up in the White Rocks area. ๐ŸžThat said, fixing the headlight bulb really has to be top priority this weekend. ๐Ÿ”ง But after that, I just need to get propane and then head out of town. I am probably not going to do any political canvasing this weekend, but I might help out again on Tuesday, Election Day. It all depends on how much time. With the time change this weekend, we do get an extra hour.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2005.

Heading up to the top

October 31, 2019 8 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Halloween ๐ŸŽƒ! Four weeks to Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ. Clouds and 60 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. โ˜ There is a south breeze at 15 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 2 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

No rain yet but definitely cloudy and damp. โ˜ Rained for a while last night but then it stopped. Going to pick up later on with some good rain – I wore my rain coat into work today. I put a fresh contact in one of my eyes ๐Ÿ‘€ still a bit itchy. Not too sick, but a little congested this morning. Not terrible though. Big road check point at Elm Avenue Park and Ride, they seem to do a lot of commercial inspections there as it’s kind of hard for truckers to get around it with the low bridge on Delaware Avenue.๐Ÿš›

Speaking of Inspections, tomorrow is November ๐Ÿ” and Big Red will need his state inspection. As the tires are wearing down, and should have legal and then some on it, I think I want to get it done relatively early. I’ll probably just drop it off at the Dealer next week or the week after and pick up after work. With my new job though, it will be an early start, as I have to get into work earlier then in the past. It’s just one of those things you have to get done — fewer and fewer states have safety inspections, but New York is one of the few ones left.

Today will rain. ๐ŸŒง High of 68 degrees at 2pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 22nd. I’ll take mid September weather come almost November. But with the wind and rain outside it will feel much colder. Maximum dew point of 63 at 4pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 1946. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1913.โ„

Tonight being Halloween and things so rainy and cold, ๐ŸŽƒ I plan to head home after work, then ride the exercise bike ๐Ÿšฒ assuming my neighbor is not home, and work on electronics projects.โšก I really haven’t used my soldering iron in some time. Then probably retire to bed quiet early, ๐Ÿ› as with my new job I find myself getting up earlier and taking the express bus to work. Despite it not being that much earlier, I’ve been trying to make sure each night I am well rested, so I don’t get sick again.

The sun will set at 5:50 pm with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 20 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain ๐ŸŒง and temperatures around 68 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. Breezy, 21 mph breeze โ›… from the south with gusts up to 33mph. Today will have 10 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain, mainly before 4am. The rain could be heavy at times. ๐ŸŒง Low of 53 degrees at 6am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 18th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 21 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1964.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 50. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Typical average high for the weekend is 53 degrees. Still think I’m going to head out camping this weekend after I fix that light bulb. The White Rocks option is most likely, but i could change my mind.๐Ÿ•

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Thanksgiving ๐Ÿฆƒ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 45 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 1990.

No Fire Tower left but nice walk

October 26, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the first day of Early Voting! Five weeks to Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ. But doesn’t Walmart and Tractor Supply have better prices? I mean I always get propane at Tractor Supply. ๐Ÿ’ฅ This morning is partly sunny and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ.

Earlier this morning I was feeling a bit achy but I took some extra strength ibuprofen ๐Ÿ’Š and I think this cold is getting better. When I’m up and about its not so bad it’s just laying in bed or standing around I can feel sick.

Today will be mostly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 56 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. North wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1997.โ„

I will swing by my Early Vote โŽ site today but the more I think about it, makes more sense to wait until Monday evening after work to avoid the crowds. Being a new thing, everybody in town will be rushing out to Early Vote today and tomorrow they’ll be a lot of people after church โ›ช I imagine.

Around 11:30 going to head up to Troy to canvas for David Bissember and then head out to Grafton Lakes to hike. ๐Ÿ‚ Should be a decent afternoon although I expect more clouds โ˜ to be popping up by evening with a fairly early sunset ๐ŸŒ‡.

The sun will set at 5:57 pm with dusk around 6:25 pm, which is one minute and 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 10 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain likely, mainly after 2am. Increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 44 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 4th. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1950.

Back in 1970, Muhammad Ali faces off against Jerry Quarry in Atlanta, Georgia for the first time after Ali’s three-year hiatus from evading to be drafted in the Vietnam War.โœŠ

Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.

 Farm Along US 220

September 19, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Ten weeks until Thanksgiving.๐Ÿฆƒย We are the same distance between now and Thanksgiving, and the First Day of Summer and Labor Day. Sunny and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒž Calm wind. Foggy ๐ŸŒ in the city. As they say, winters coming. It’s only going to get colder. I caught the local to work ๐Ÿš as was running late as I got looking at a map, trying to plan out my vacation. ๐Ÿ‚

I might order a good West Virginia map like a Rand McNally as because the National Forest map I have is excellent but the same can’t be said about the AAA map which covers three states down that way. ๐Ÿ—บย I think I could make my route using that map but a better one on Amazon is like $5 and I might discover things that I would overlook. Regardless, I want this year’s trip to be better planned than last year.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.

The sun will set at 6:58 pm with dusk around 7:27 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 68 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 44 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1979.

Awesome weekend on tap, with temperatures running 13 degrees above normal. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.

This evening I’ll head to the store ๐Ÿฌ and get the supplies I need and Big Red gassedย up. โ›ฝ Right after the Pine Bush hike I want to head up to the Adirondacks for a final overnight trip at the potholers. After this, I probably won’t be back to Piseco-Powley Road until next June or July — we will see — but I think with the colder weather coming and the fact that area is prone to lake effect snow.๐ŸŒจ I’d wait until next weekend, but who knows what the weather will be like by next week.

I stillย think it’s pretty neat that OGS agreed to reprogram funds for the combined heat and power plant ๐Ÿ”ณย for solar both on the plaza and in Oneida County. While I’m not a fan of developing more solar farms, it’s good to see the state is putting their money where their mouth is. They have a lot of room for solar at the State Office Campus, if they built over the parking lots and the ring roads. Putting solar over the roads makes a lot of sense in the snow climate we live in — no snow to remove and rain is blocked from motorists windshields.๐Ÿ”

In two weeks, the sun will be setting at 6:34 pm with dusk at 7:02 pm. ๐ŸŒ† On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 65 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 83 back in 1967.

September 17, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Constitution Day on this Tuesday morning. ๐Ÿ“ƒ It’s been said many times before, the constitution is just a paper document that you can use as bedding in your cow ๐Ÿฎ barn if the public is not willing to enforce it. Mr. NOAA is sleeping in this morning so I’ll have to do my best without him. I think it’s about fifty degrees out with lots of sun. ๐ŸŒž

Today we are looking for a high around 72 with lots of sunshine with high pressure in control. ๐Ÿ˜Ž I hope you have your sunglasses, I know I won’t need the lights in my office today. About one degree below normal which is similar to what you would expect for Thursday. A week from now the high is only 69. Sunset ๐ŸŒ‡ tonight is around 7:02 pm with dusk around seven thirty. By tomorrow it will be the last sunset after seven until mid March. Winters coming! โ›„

I decided to run to Price Chopper as it was the closest supermarket and buy some frozen vegetables and cheese and after shave. ๐Ÿš™ They didn’t have the after shave I normally use and the frozen vegetables ๐Ÿฒ that were supposedly on sale weren’t on sale. I wish I had just gone to Walmart or Shoprite. ๐Ÿช

The internet wasn’t working on my laptop on Monday but I think it was a temporary glitch. ๐Ÿ“ก I thought some of the software I upgraded broke things but it looks like just suspending and waking up the computer ๐Ÿ’ป seemed to get it working again. I think maybe the Bluetooth driver somehow confused the wifi in the laptop. The Realtek chip in the laptop has always been a bit problematic. A bit frustrating ๐Ÿ˜ค for sure as I use my laptop a Iot.

One good thing I discovered was that I found what was wrong with my display in my bedroom. ๐Ÿ“Ÿ I have a loose power wire going to the microprocessor and that’s causing a voltage โšก drop which causes the microprocessor to either freeze or send invalid data to the display. I should be able to fix that now with a bit of solder.

Tonight after work I’m heading over to John Wolcott’s house to hopefully get close to wrapping up his history project.๐Ÿ”Ž I doubt I’ll have much time to do much more come October with my road trip and other things coming up that month. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚

One month from today on October 17th the sun will be setting at 6:10 pm and the average high will be only 59 degrees. ๐Ÿ‚ Outside of the city the leaves will be largely past peek and it be closer to November than September. That said, November is my favorite month of the year. I love ๐Ÿ˜ those frosty cold November mornings when things are crystal clear. Southern zone deer season opens in sixty days.
