Good morning! Happy Regular Deer Season in Southern Zone 🦌! Hunt safely and get a good deer for those into that thing. Bitterly cold day to be in your stand but I’m sure the bright sun is good. I just know how cold the woods can be small game hunting. Two weeks to Small Business Saturday 🛍οΈ. Sunny and 25 degrees at the Green Energy Fair at Saint Rose. 🌞 There is a north breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 11 am. 🌡οΈ
Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 32 degrees at 1pm. 16 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 27th. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Another really cold day and possibly record breaking cold tonight. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 2002.β
So today I plan to table for the Green Energy Fair 🎄 and then depending on how cold it and long I stay at the fair is hike along the rail trail 🚶 and then maybe run to the store. 🏬I ended up driving here because I needed to bring a table for our booth which is annoying as I hate driving in the city but I avoided all the red light 🚦 camera intersections like I always try to do. Takes planning thought to do that in the city. It would have been pretty cold walk over to hear. β The hall is a bit chilly as it’s not well insulated and some of the window are missing allowing heat to pour out β¨ of the Armory. But still a lot of displays and groups at the Green Energy β‘ Fair today.
The sun will set at 4:31 pm with dusk around 5:02 pm, which is 54 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 30 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 44 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 9 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 10 degrees at 6am. 21 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 16 at 6pm; North wind 3 to 6 mph. A pretty frigid night, even colder up north. Even hot tenting 🎪 that would be cold and In 2018, we had cloudy skies. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.
Finished up the last of the pumpkin 🎃 butter my mom made up. That was super delicious 😋 to say the least. I should try making up some myself and maybe even baking my own pumpkin pie with pie filling on sale this time of year. I just really like the taste of pumpkin.
Shower continues to shut off properly 🚿 although I still have to play with the knob. Annoying how fast the washers have started to act up in it. Well if I have to have my landlord come over to fix it so be it, that’s the job I pay him to do. Maybe I’m not gentle enough on the faucet but he probably also shouldn’t have used the cheapest possible model to fix it two years ago.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Small Business Saturday 🛍οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:54 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 45 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 67 back in 1933.
November 15, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! I’m glad, I’m looking forward to the weekend even if it means I’ll be at the Renewable Energy Fair most of Saturday. Two weeks to Buy Nothing Day ποΈ. Mostly sunny and 31 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. π. Feels much warmer than earlier in the week – it was actually a bit warmer than I would have liked in my apartment. I shouldn’t have left the heat at 55 before bed as it overrode quite a bit.
Last night I was playing with CSS flex and grid, trying to decide on a possible future redesign of the blog. I didn’t know much about the latest in browser development π° as it’s been a while since I’ve redesigned a website from the ground up. Stayed up much too late for sure trying to learn the ins and out. The current design works well but sometimes I’ve noticed display glitches while embedding Facebook and Twitter posts, and sometimes links don’t work properly. It’s also a bit slow at times — some of it’s my web host, but some of it’s bloated code. Plus, the parent theme I’m using to base my blog off (with heavy modifications), is no longer supported, and uses some code that isn’t PHP 7 friendly.
I went down to the library for a bit, π mostly to download some themes, to based on my desire to put a fresh new look on the blog, but managed to save them in the /tmp directly, which was promptly discarded when I restarted my computer. Doh! π» Fortunately, I can always just re-download them.
But regardless of my new found knowledge on web programming, I certainly shouldn’t have stayed up until 11:30 AM, as I tend to wake up quite early most mornings, this morning included.π I was stirring around 6:30 although I didn’t get out of bed until 7 AM. So I bet I’m going to be tired today at work. I’ll make it through today and get to bed early tomorrow. That will certainly make me feel miserable later today.
Today will be mostly sunny π, with a high of 43 degrees at 1pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 27th. South wind 6 to 9 mph becoming west in the afternoon. But much better than its been. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 29 degrees. Kind of like yesterday. The record high of 74 was set in 1993. 4.8 inches of snow fell back in 1906.β
The sun will set at 4:33 pm with dusk around 5:03 pm, which is 55 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At sunset, look for partly clear skies π and temperatures around 41 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 46 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 10 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers between 11pm and midnight. Partly cloudy π, with a low of 17 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 27th. West wind 9 to 14 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of 7 occurred back in 1972.
Tomorrow will be sunny π, with a high of 29 degrees at 1pm. 19 degrees below normal. North wind 7 to 9 mph. Another cold day, but hopefully it won’t be so cold at the New Scotland Armory. I am going to end up having to drive there, as I need to bring a table, as they’re not being provided. It’s not like it’s the other side of world, but I try to avoid driving in the city. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 40 degrees. The record high of 71 was set in 2006. 3.4 inches of snow fell back in 2002.β
Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 36. β Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Typical average high for the weekend is 48 degrees. Cold yes but it’s still improvement. The long range doesn’t show as much of a warm up as before but that’s good – maybe less potholes this year. That said, despite the cold I’m not sure that the ground froze up that bad, so maybe it won’t be so bad early in the season. I’m hoping for warmer weather for camping though.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Buy Nothing Day ποΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2005.

November 6, 2019 Morning
Good morning! Happy Day After Election Day 🛀! So it came and went. Folks voted and we were now have to live with the consequences. Some will be happy, others sad, and it’s going to snow on Thursday. β Next Wednesday starts with the Average Night Below Freezing 🌌. Mostly sunny and 39 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a west breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow around 11 pm. βοΈ Pleasant walk down to the Park and Ride – I almost always take express in as I like the walk and I have to get there earlier.
Pleasant morning after a rather quiet Election Day 🐴🐖🐘 which I spent home working on electronics projects and riding the exercise bike 🚲. Sometimes a quiet day is nice for a change, and I’m just not super interested in being politically involved these days.
Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 47 degrees at 2pm. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 17th. West wind 5 to 11 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 54 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 2015. 3.2 inches of snow fell back in 1933.β
The sun will set at 4:42 pm with dusk around 5:12 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 Once again, I remembered to turn the porch light on it and will be on once it gets dark. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 5 mph. Not terrible for the day after Election Day. Today will have 10 hours and 7 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 33 degrees at 10pm. One degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 9th. Light and variable wind becoming south around 6 mph after midnight. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 41 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1962.
The big story is the couple of inches of wet snow β that are expected to happen Thursday night 🌃 once things cool down and drop before freezing. Not a big amount of snow in Albany – maybe an inch – but the sanders certainly will be out and they’re predicting more snow in points north and west.
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. π Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Typical average high for the weekend is 51 degrees.
This weekend I will probably head up to the Adirondacks and camp up there βΊ but I’ll keep an eye on the snowfall estimates and decide from there. I fully expect winter conditions and snow camping, I will probably bring my skis 🎿 just in case. I still want to get out to Madison County before the end of the year but only if the roads aren’t too icy out that way.
As previously noted, next Wednesday is Average Night Below Freezing 🌌 when the sun will be setting at 4:35 pm with dusk at 5:05 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain and temperatures between 44 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 49 degrees. We hit a record high of 69 back in 1964.
