Delmar, New York

Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.

A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.

In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.

November 1, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy November πŸ₯§! I really like the month of November, the mornings are crisp and often sunny, the evenings are long πŸ¦ƒ and good for cooking and sitting by the fire. πŸ”₯ Four weeks to Buy Nothing Day and the Thanksgiving Friday πŸ›οΈ. Partly sunny and 48 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Breezy, ️23 mph breeze from the west 🌬 with gusts up to 41 mph πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨.

Waiting out for the bus at the express bus, 🚏I was a bit concerned for a while that it might not arrive. 🚌 But ultimately it did, and I made it downtown in time for work. The wind is pretty crazy downtown, but I am sure it will die down by the time I get into the office, and I won’t notice it at all in my windowless, quiet underground office.

Woke up last night with a bit of congestion and a cough 😯 but I don’t feel too bad this morning. It seems like it’s been a rough few weeks with being slightly sick although I haven’t missed much work lately and I’ve been getting lots of sleep. Maybe I need to do more hand βœ‹ washing. I know my parents last week had a cold, but i was sick too, so I figured I wouldn’t catch their cold. Go figure.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 52 degrees at 11am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 5th. Going to get a few degrees warmer but by evening will drop into the forties. Windy, with a west wind 22 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 59 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1950. 3.9 inches of snow fell back in 1951.❄

The sun will set at 5:48 pm with dusk around 6:18 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 47 degrees. Breezy, 18 mph breeze β›… from the west with gusts up to 33mph. Today will have 10 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear πŸŒƒ, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around November 24th. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 19 occurred back in 2002.

Tomorrow which is Saturday will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 51 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around November 7th. Light and variable wind. Going to be a pretty nice day for November. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 64 degrees. The record high of 82 was set in 1950. A dusting of snow fell back in 1911.❄ Looking ahead to Sunday, mostly sunny, β˜€ with a high near 48. Light and variable wind becoming west 6 to 11 mph in the morning. Typical average high for the weekend is 53 degrees.

Still thinking about heading up to Vermont to camp πŸ•and do some hiking up in the White Rocks area. 🏞That said, fixing the headlight bulb really has to be top priority this weekend. πŸ”§ But after that, I just need to get propane and then head out of town. I am probably not going to do any political canvasing this weekend, but I might help out again on Tuesday, Election Day. It all depends on how much time. With the time change this weekend, we do get an extra hour.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Buy Nothing Day πŸ›οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:23 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 56 and 28 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 42 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2005.

Heading up to the top

October 31, 2019 8 AM Update

Good morning! Happy Halloween πŸŽƒ! Four weeks to Thanksgiving πŸ¦ƒ. Clouds and 60 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. ☁ There is a south breeze at 15 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Monday around 2 am. β˜ƒοΈ

No rain yet but definitely cloudy and damp. ☁ Rained for a while last night but then it stopped. Going to pick up later on with some good rain – I wore my rain coat into work today. I put a fresh contact in one of my eyes πŸ‘€ still a bit itchy. Not too sick, but a little congested this morning. Not terrible though. Big road check point at Elm Avenue Park and Ride, they seem to do a lot of commercial inspections there as it’s kind of hard for truckers to get around it with the low bridge on Delaware Avenue.πŸš›

Speaking of Inspections, tomorrow is November πŸ” and Big Red will need his state inspection. As the tires are wearing down, and should have legal and then some on it, I think I want to get it done relatively early. I’ll probably just drop it off at the Dealer next week or the week after and pick up after work. With my new job though, it will be an early start, as I have to get into work earlier then in the past. It’s just one of those things you have to get done — fewer and fewer states have safety inspections, but New York is one of the few ones left.

Today will rain. 🌧 High of 68 degrees at 2pm. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 22nd. I’ll take mid September weather come almost November. But with the wind and rain outside it will feel much colder. Maximum dew point of 63 at 4pm. πŸ–οΈ South wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning, which became cloudy by afternoon. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 1946. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1913.❄

Tonight being Halloween and things so rainy and cold, πŸŽƒ I plan to head home after work, then ride the exercise bike 🚲 assuming my neighbor is not home, and work on electronics projects.⚑ I really haven’t used my soldering iron in some time. Then probably retire to bed quiet early, πŸ› as with my new job I find myself getting up earlier and taking the express bus to work. Despite it not being that much earlier, I’ve been trying to make sure each night I am well rested, so I don’t get sick again.

The sun will set at 5:50 pm with dusk around 6:19 pm, which is one minute and 20 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain 🌧 and temperatures around 68 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. Breezy, 21 mph breeze β›… from the south with gusts up to 33mph. Today will have 10 hours and 22 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain, mainly before 4am. The rain could be heavy at times. 🌧 Low of 53 degrees at 6am. 16 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 18th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6pm. πŸ–οΈ Breezy, with a south wind 16 to 21 mph becoming west after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 22 occurred back in 1964.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. 😎 Saturday, sunny, with a high near 50. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Typical average high for the weekend is 53 degrees. Still think I’m going to head out camping this weekend after I fix that light bulb. The White Rocks option is most likely, but i could change my mind.πŸ•

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Thanksgiving πŸ¦ƒ when the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm with dusk at 4:55 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 45 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 43 degrees. We hit a record high of 68 back in 1990.

No Fire Tower left but nice walk

October 26, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the first day of Early Voting! Five weeks to Small Business Saturday πŸ›οΈ. But doesn’t Walmart and Tractor Supply have better prices? I mean I always get propane at Tractor Supply. πŸ’₯ This morning is partly sunny and 45 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ.

Earlier this morning I was feeling a bit achy but I took some extra strength ibuprofen πŸ’Š and I think this cold is getting better. When I’m up and about its not so bad it’s just laying in bed or standing around I can feel sick.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 56 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today. North wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 78 was set in 1963. There was a dusting of snow in 1997.❄

I will swing by my Early Vote ❎ site today but the more I think about it, makes more sense to wait until Monday evening after work to avoid the crowds. Being a new thing, everybody in town will be rushing out to Early Vote today and tomorrow they’ll be a lot of people after church β›ͺ I imagine.

Around 11:30 going to head up to Troy to canvas for David Bissember and then head out to Grafton Lakes to hike. πŸ‚ Should be a decent afternoon although I expect more clouds ☁ to be popping up by evening with a fairly early sunset πŸŒ‡.

The sun will set at 5:57 pm with dusk around 6:25 pm, which is one minute and 27 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for partly clear skies πŸŒ„ and temperatures around 54 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 10 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will rain likely, mainly after 2am. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a low of 44 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 4th. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 37 degrees. The record low of 21 occurred back in 1950.
