Good morning! Happy Sunday. Two weeks to Average High is 60 ๐. In the Albany area that might occur sooner as it looks like the northeast will dip above the jet stream next week. Strangely enough I’ll be in West Virginia where its expected to be relatively warm and sunny assuming that the jet stream remains far enough north. Partly sunny and 65 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 8 mph. ๐. The dew point is 55 degrees.
Yesterday I hiked in the Albany Pine Bush ๐ถ out the purple trail from Madison Avenue Extension to Fusco Park then the yellow trail loop. A nice hike but a bit humid by evening with the front coming through. โ Clouded u later on. I’ll post more photos ๐ท later today. Also scanned on some documents ๐ at the library for Save the Pine Bush.
Last night was kind of a hot and sticky one. I was tempted to get out my fan but I don’t like how much energy it uses, says the boy in the squeaky big jacked up truck that’s getting fixed tomorrow. ๐จ I fell asleep pretty early mainly because I was up late the previous night watching the YouTube I had downloaded at the library.
Today will be mostly sunny ๐, with a high of 69 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8am. North wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 86 was set in 1921.
The sun will set at 6:41 pm with dusk around 7:09 pm, which is one minute and 45 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 50 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.
Today I’m thinking about hiking Louise Kier WMA aka Blodgett Hill outside of South Bethlehem ๐ถ one of the few areas around in Albany County outside of the Albany Pine Bush that has a native pitch pine habitat. But first I want to run to the car wash ๐ and Walmart. ๐ช I need to buy some motor oil โฝ to top off the truck before vacation. Then I’ll probably head over to my parents house relatively early as I’m not going to stay overnight tonight.
Tonight will be mostly clear ๐, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 8th. North wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 43 degrees. The record low of 28 occurred back in 1991.
Looking forward to my West Virginia trip next week. By now in a week I’ll be well on my way to West Virginia, stopping at several parks along the way, especially Hyner View I think. ๐ Might be really pretty for sure, depending on how much color I see on the way down there. ๐
I have my hunting license and back tag set up for 2019. ๐ซ So I can head out to the field whenever now. ๐ซ Ironically though I’m heading down to West Virginia. I wonder what a weekly out of state license costs for small game down there. That said the days are short and there is much to see down there.
I ordered additional blue jeans ๐ online from Walmart so I have enough ones for vacation and at work. I also bought a second amendment and Live Free or die shirt ๐ to wear at camp. Big spender which is bad because I just paid out a shit ton for rent and my car insurance and next I’ll have the repair bill for Big Red. ๐ญ
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 60 ๐ when the sun will be setting at 6:17 pm with dusk at 6:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 55 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 81 back in 1930.

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Ten weeks until Thanksgiving.๐ฆย We are the same distance between now and Thanksgiving, and the First Day of Summer and Labor Day. Sunny and 50 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ Calm wind. Foggy ๐ in the city. As they say, winters coming. It’s only going to get colder. I caught the local to work ๐ as was running late as I got looking at a map, trying to plan out my vacation. ๐
I might order a good West Virginia map like a Rand McNally as because the National Forest map I have is excellent but the same can’t be said about the AAA map which covers three states down that way. ๐บย I think I could make my route using that map but a better one on Amazon is like $5 and I might discover things that I would overlook. Regardless, I want this year’s trip to be better planned than last year.
Today will be sunny ๐, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Typical for today. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 75 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1946.
The sun will set at 6:58 pm with dusk around 7:27 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ and temperatures around 68 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 12 hours and 19 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear ๐, with a low of 44 degrees at 5am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around October 3rd. Calm wind. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 58 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1979.
Awesome weekend on tap, with temperatures running 13 degrees above normal. ๐ Saturday, sunny, with a high near 81. Calm wind. Maximum dew point of 61 at 2pm. Sunday, sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 58 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 70 degrees.
This evening I’ll head to the store ๐ฌ and get the supplies I need and Big Red gassedย up. โฝ Right after the Pine Bush hike I want to head up to the Adirondacks for a final overnight trip at the potholers. After this, I probably won’t be back to Piseco-Powley Road until next June or July — we will see — but I think with the colder weather coming and the fact that area is prone to lake effect snow.๐จ I’d wait until next weekend, but who knows what the weather will be like by next week.
I stillย think it’s pretty neat that OGS agreed to reprogram funds for the combined heat and power plant ๐ณย for solar both on the plaza and in Oneida County. While I’m not a fan of developing more solar farms, it’s good to see the state is putting their money where their mouth is. They have a lot of room for solar at the State Office Campus, if they built over the parking lots and the ring roads. Putting solar over the roads makes a lot of sense in the snow climate we live in — no snow to remove and rain is blocked from motorists windshields.๐
In two weeks, the sun will be setting at 6:34 pm with dusk at 7:02 pm. ๐ On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 65 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 65 degrees. We hit a record high of 83 back in 1967.

Good morning! Happy Constitution Day on this Tuesday morning. ๐ It’s been said many times before, the constitution is just a paper document that you can use as bedding in your cow ๐ฎ barn if the public is not willing to enforce it. Mr. NOAA is sleeping in this morning so I’ll have to do my best without him. I think it’s about fifty degrees out with lots of sun. ๐
Today we are looking for a high around 72 with lots of sunshine with high pressure in control. ๐ I hope you have your sunglasses, I know I won’t need the lights in my office today. About one degree below normal which is similar to what you would expect for Thursday. A week from now the high is only 69. Sunset ๐ tonight is around 7:02 pm with dusk around seven thirty. By tomorrow it will be the last sunset after seven until mid March. Winters coming! โ
I decided to run to Price Chopper as it was the closest supermarket and buy some frozen vegetables and cheese and after shave. ๐ They didn’t have the after shave I normally use and the frozen vegetables ๐ฒ that were supposedly on sale weren’t on sale. I wish I had just gone to Walmart or Shoprite. ๐ช
The internet wasn’t working on my laptop on Monday but I think it was a temporary glitch. ๐ก I thought some of the software I upgraded broke things but it looks like just suspending and waking up the computer ๐ป seemed to get it working again. I think maybe the Bluetooth driver somehow confused the wifi in the laptop. The Realtek chip in the laptop has always been a bit problematic. A bit frustrating ๐ค for sure as I use my laptop a Iot.
One good thing I discovered was that I found what was wrong with my display in my bedroom. ๐ I have a loose power wire going to the microprocessor and that’s causing a voltage โก drop which causes the microprocessor to either freeze or send invalid data to the display. I should be able to fix that now with a bit of solder.
Tonight after work I’m heading over to John Wolcott’s house to hopefully get close to wrapping up his history project.๐ I doubt I’ll have much time to do much more come October with my road trip and other things coming up that month. ๐๐
One month from today on October 17th the sun will be setting at 6:10 pm and the average high will be only 59 degrees. ๐ Outside of the city the leaves will be largely past peek and it be closer to November than September. That said, November is my favorite month of the year. I love ๐ those frosty cold November mornings when things are crystal clear. Southern zone deer season opens in sixty days.

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Four weeks to Average High is 60 ๐. Partly sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees. Seems like a nice morning. I’m making up some french toast ๐ง and coffee โ now and going to soon take a shower ๐ฟ.
I think the plan for today is to hike Windham High Peak ๐ป and go out to my parents house ๐ฒ for Sunday dinner. ๐ถ I haven’t done Windham High Peak in a number of years and I have think it will be a nice hike, even if last time I was up there I was under impressed by the views. ๐ท
Today will be mostly sunny ๐, with a high of 75 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 10th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 11am. West wind 3 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with sunny skies in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1915.
The sun will set at 7:06 pm with dusk around 7:34 pm, which is one minute and 47 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies ๐ and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 30 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 51 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a slight chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy ๐ง, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 2nd. Maximum dew point of 56 at 10pm. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had clear skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It was sticky. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 32 occurred back in 1964.
The display in my bedroom is still getting stuck and malfunctioning a lot. ๐ I think I’ve found the bad solder joint and the board, I will have to hit it again with the soldering iron. ๐ฌ
Next weekend keeps looking increasingly hot and sunny. ๐ I think it might be good for one more weekend at the potholers after I do the Pine Bush Bird Hike ๐ฆ early on Saturday morning.
Been thinking ๐ญ about hiking back to Pharoah Lake in late October or early November. ๐ถ I made up a revised map ๐พ yesterday and was thinking it would be a nice day hike. The hike back there is an easy 3 1/2 miles each way over virtually flat terrain (you gain only 200 ft in elevation from Beaver Brook Road) but the 420 acre lake ๐ is 5 miles around it so it’s a good distance. Do it in November and all your bound to see is a few deer hunters, ๐ฆ the crowds ๐ช will be long gone.
I haven’t talked or given a whole lot of thought towards saving for my off grid house ๐ก lately. The automatic investments are doing their thing and I’m getting closer one step at a time. Yeah, a lot of people I went to school with or know are buying houses out in the country ๐ฎ but I just can’t see doing that while I still live in New York. I’m fine spending a lot of weekends for now in the wilderness, camping, cooking and having fires. ๐ฅ
Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Average High is 60 ๐ when the sun will be setting at 6:17 pm with dusk at 6:45 pm. On that day in 2018, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 55 and 41 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 61 degrees. We hit a record high of 81 back in 1930.
