December 15, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 29 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🎑 Breezy, ️17 mph breeze from the west-northwest 🌬 with gusts up to 28 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 17. There are 1.5 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. 🌡️

For a while this evening it was pretty bitterly cold with the wind. 🍃 It seems like the wind has died down a bit. I went to the Save the Pine Bush Benefit, 🦋 had a Butterfly Lager that was well not the greatest lager ever 🍺 for $7 but Save the Pine Bush got $2 plus I put in the cover charge and I bought a bunch of raffle tickets. 🎫

Very packed event when I left at 9 pm as I have to work tomorrow, didn’t want to drink more than one beer 🍻 and then have to drive home on those narrow city streets. 🚨 Drunk driving laws are so strict these days, and the rare times when I go to the bar, I usually take the bus home 🚍 but not many run on Sunday.

Parking 🅿 wasn’t bad down there, as I parked down a block from the bar and walked 🚶 up there, and with some careful route planning 🌐I managed to avoid all of the red light camera. 🚦 It’s not that hard to avoid them if you take the side streets and plan appropriately to avoid those intersections.

Music 🎶 was kind of loud and not my style 🎸 with all the old folks pulling their hearing aids. 👵I was quite happy to leave and protect my ears 👂 as I do enough damage listening to the moldy oldies and country western with my headphones 🎧jacked up to loud. But the hipsters and others there really digged the act and hopefully will bring a lot of funds in for the battle against developing the Pine Bush.🦋

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before midnight. I was worried 😯 about the roads as it started to snow around five but they were fine. Black ice in parking lots but with the wind they were dry. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 22 degrees at 6am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 14th. Maximum wind chill around 16 at 12am; West wind 12 to 17 mph decreasing to 6 to 11 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of -11 occurred back in 1917.

Tonight will have a Waning Gibbous Moon 🌖 with 72% illuminated. I always find those waning gibbous moons to look a bit creepy, like part of the moon is missing. The moon will set at 11:02 am. The Last Quarter Moon is on Tuesday night with partly cloudy skies. The is on Wednesday night. The sun will rise at 7:18 am with the first light at 6:46 am, which is 44 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 56 minutes of darkness, an increase of 29 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 33 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 23rd. West wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 36 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1971. 9.5 inches of snow fell back in 1981.❄

I decided to park on the driveway as I don’t think we are going to get enough snow for the landlord to plow ❄ but if he does he can plow around my truck. It’s possible we get a few inches on Tuesday but I don’t see it being a big snow event locally but it could cause delays on the commute.

I got grocery shopping so I should be good for the week. 🏪 I also have a half tank of gas in the truck β›½ so I should be good for now but I’ll need more fuel if I decide to go to the Adirondacks after the Save the Pine Bush Hike on Saturday. We aren’t going to do the Reszin Adams filming 📹 on Saturday so I’ll have the afternoon free if the weather is nice enough for a night on the East Branch. Depends on how cold, icy and snowy it is up north. ❄ Otherwise I’ll just wait another weekend for my trip to the Finger Lakes National Forest. β›Ί I’m hoping that long weekend is nice and relatively snow free.

In four weeks on January 12 the sun will be setting at 4:43 pm,🌄 which is 20 minutes and 33 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had partly cloudy skies and temperatures between 26 and 12 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 14 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 2018.

Looking ahead, National Bird Day 🐦 is a month away, National Popcorn Day 🍿 is in 5 weeks, National Pie Day 🍰 is in 5 weeks, 5:30 PM Dusk 🌆 is in 6 weeks, Ground Hog Day 🐻 is in 7 weeks, Snow Moon 🌕 is in 8 weeks, March 🌨 is in 11 weeks, Daylight Savings Time 🌆 is in 12 weeks, Ides of March ✝ is in 3 months, Palm Sunday 🌴 is in 16 weeks, Tax Day 💰 is in 4 months, Easter 🐰 is in 17 weeks, Mothers Day 👩‍ is in 21 weeks, Pack Rat Day 🐀 is in 22 weeks and Strawberry Moon 🌕 is in 25 weeks.

Walk up ATM are best

Walk up ATM are best for boys in big jacked up trucks… 🏧

I was happy to discover that the SEFCU in Glenmont has a secure 🔐 walk up ATM inside the main entrance. I can’t reach the ATM from my truck and always feel a bit awkward and unsafe about hopping out of the truck and getting money at the drive through. 💳

Snowy Morning at East Branch

Snowy morning up at camp on the East Branch of Sacandaga River on November 24, 2019. Kind of pretty with the snow coming down but driving home was a slog.
