The emphatic hoots of a pair of Barred Owls resonate in the still of a February night. So-called for the stripes on their breast, Barred Owls are among the largest owls in North America. They're also the most vocal. Their signature hooting sequence has been memorably described as “who-cooks-for-you?! who-cooks-for-you-all?!”
But this is just one of more than a dozen Barred Owl calls, ranging from a “siren call” to a “wail” to a wonderfully entertaining “monkey call.”
Good morning! Happy 6 PM Dusk π ! Two weeks to Average High is 40 βοΈ . Snow and 21 degrees in Dormansville, NY. β Calm wind. There are 9 inches of snow on the ground. β οΈMore out here then in Delmar, but a reasonable amount. That warm weather combined with sunny days, has taken a bite out of snow. More ice on Tuesday then snow too. But more snow coming tonight into tomorrow. Things will start to thaw out at Tuesday around 11 am. π‘οΈ
I’ve been house sitting at my parents house, while they travel up to Plattsburgh for their COVID shot and mini-vacation up in the Adirondacks. Just a one night thing, which is good because their dog has been totally crazy, and triggering my allergies something awful. My eyes have been blood red, my nose itchy and a pretty good headache. I don’t know if it’s the different breed of dog, or it’s because the puppy has more energy and is all over you.
Today will have a chance of light snow before 11am, then snow likely, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy π¨, with a high of 26 degrees at 3pm. Nine degrees below normal. Light northeast wind. So far it looks like the snow models are sliding downwards, with most of the snow shown in the radar not hitting the ground right now. It could change again, but what once was looking like a major snow event tonight into more just snow flurries tomorrow. Hoping though to get shopping later and to the library in the afternoon, so I don’t have to go out anywhere this weekend. I still have those books on reserve I need to pick up.

Being out at my parents house, I missed both my morning and evening walks today and yesterday. Tonight should be nice for a walk, even if it’s a bit snowy. Not sure how much snow though, as the models keep trending downwards. I thought this could be a big snow event, but it doesn’t really look that way at this point.
Tonight will snow. π¨ Low of 18 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Northeast wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. πΉπ»πΌOnly 30 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!πΉπ»πΌ I am counting the down the days, if you haven’t noticed. Granted the first day of spring isn’t Memorial Day Weekend but at least we have a few days between the melting of the snow and the swarms of black flies. Don’t worry, they are waiting.
