Indictments from the January 6th Uprising

Indictments from the January 6th Uprising

The GW Program on Extremism has been tracking court cases from the January 6th Uprising where angry pro-Trump protestors overwhelmed the US Capitol Police, swarming the building, damaging property and leading to heart attacks and other injuries of government workers ill prepared for such a large angry crowd. I thought it would be interesting to take a look at this data and make a random dot-plot map of the indictments to see where the criminal cases were, and provide an interesting visual perspective on the wide-spread participants in the protest from across the nation.

You can get the source data here: https://extremism.gwu.edu/Capitol-Hill-Cases

To be clear, Donald John Trump is one of our nation's biggest jerks, and he got a lot of ordinary, often working-class people in trouble with the law over his asinine protest, over the election he lost, mainly due to his incompetent handling of the Coronavirus Pandemic that lead to hundreds of thousands of Americans dying and millions getting sick. Competence matters in our elected officials, especially our President, and I can't imagine Joe Biden would ever get such an angry mob of protestors amped up to the point where they destroyed property or cause personal or other injury. Protests are an important part of democracy, but they shouldn't result in protestors getting injured, arrested, prosecuted -- nor should they lead to property damage or injury and death to the government workers.

Going to be a hot weekend. 🌞

Sunny and hot. I’m jealous of those who are on vacation this week. But next weekend I will be and hopefully the trend will continue. The breeze should help, especially with record breaking hit possible on Sunday. I hope though we get some good thunderstorms on Sunday, as we still need rain, and it will help with breaking the heat.

Daily Update – July 22, 2022

Good morning! The Friday before Summer Vacation.

First though a trip to the dentist and the auto repair shop. So an anxious day then a week to vacation.

Sunny and 67 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌞 Calm wind. The dew point is 64 degrees.

Been going to bed πŸ› real early all week. I work late 🏒 – things have been super busy in the office – come home and have a light dinner. 🌭 Drink ice water πŸ’¦ and go to bed. Get up at five am when it’s still cool at six go out for a walk 🚢. Really it’s worked out so far this week.

The plan for today is to drop off the truck πŸ›» at the shop and then catch the bus 🚍 to the dentist. 🦷 Then go work, maybe an hour late. I might leave work early to pick up the truck but I doubt the repairs will be done today so I probably won’t have the truck for the weekend but I don’t care that much because I wasn’t planning to head out of town the week before summer vacation. 🏑

I am always anxious about dropping my truck off at the shop πŸ”§ because I really have so little control over the matter. I don’t know if the shop is good or bad though I’ve had good experience so far with it in recent years. I know whatever it is it will be expensive with inflation but in the context of a $1,000 a month car payment. I have estimated likely costs in my head – a median of what I think it is, a worse case scenario and a best. πŸ‘† But ultimately my goal is a trouble free vacation and remainder of the summer. I just hate having to drop my vehicle at the shop and not know what it’s going to be until that call.

Tomorrow is going to really hot β˜€ and Sunday even hotter 😰 possibly the hottest day in a long time and that’s something after the heat of Wednesday. Saturday I’ll probably stay home for a while by the fan and then go to the library in the afternoon to cool down and work on the internet. Sunday is more difficult to plan – I doubt I’ll have my truck – but maybe I can spend the day swimming 🏊 at the town pool. It’s like $6 or $7 but for a full day of refreshing cool it will be nice. Especially with what gas prices are these days. β›½

It’s just going to be hot. πŸ– Ordinarily I would spend the weekend up at a cold swimming hole up north 🏊‍♂️ but I don’t think I’ll have my truck this weekend and Friday is summer vacation. I figure just stay hydrated, keep shades drawn, stay be the fan when I’m not swimming or at the library. Early to bed, early to rise. Next weekend is summer vacation – it will be hot too it appears but at a pool or gorge swimming 🏊 it never gets too hot. I want to camp in the shade, have lots of cold drinks, so I don’t mind the heat.
