Trapping provides important benefits to New Yorkers including:

the control of nuisance damage; economic benefits to trappers and people involved in the fur industry; and recreation to trappers.

The 14 species of furbearing animals in New York are abundant and their populations are secure. DEC regulates trapping seasons to ensure the continued security of New York's furbearer populations.

There are about 10,000 trappers in New York. This number varies depending on the year and fur market conditions. New York State is one of the nation's top producers of wild furs for the commercial fur trade. New York City remains a center for the production and marketing of fur garments.

December 11, 2019 Night

Good evening! Snow flurries and 27 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ Breezy, ️16 mph breeze from the west 🌬 with gusts up to 28 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 15. It’s a fairly decent evening outside with the moonlight until the wind picks up. There are 3.5 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at Friday around 9 am. 🌡️

I went over to John Wolcott house 🏡 for a while 🔎and then I went for my evening walk. Beautiful moonlight tonight but a bit cold with the wind. Got milk 🐮 for breakfast in the morning. Fixed the handle on my waffle maker with glue. I keep loosing screws out of the handle and I don’t have any screws the right size. 🔧

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers. Partly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 15 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical Maximum wind chill around 13 at 6am; West wind 7 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -12 occurred back in 1988.

Tonight is the Cold Moon 🌕. Very cold but bright outside. The sun will rise at 7:15 am with the first light at 6:43 am, which is 51 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 14 hours and 53 minutes of darkness, an increase of 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 30 degrees at 1pm. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical Light and variable wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1979. 6.6 inches of snow fell back in 1970.❄

In four weeks on January 8 the sun will be setting at 4:38 pm,🌄 which is 16 minutes and 54 seconds later then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had another cloudy but rainy day with and temperatures between 41 and 29 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 30 and 15 degrees. The record high of 60 degrees was set back in 2008.
