πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„I bought mushrooms from the store last week. Not only are they packaged in plastic, they taste like STYROFOAM. They better have mushrooms at the farmers market tomorrow!πŸ„πŸ„πŸ„

Another day, another advertisement in my mailboxπŸ“¬ for cable TV and home internet.πŸ’»πŸ“ΊπŸ”Œ Only $100 a month it proclaim. πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°πŸ’°In the words of their advertising, our monopoly business is so cheap and wonderful! But rarely do I have $100 unspent in my budget each month.πŸ’΅ I don’t want to piss the remaining money away.πŸ’¦

Even if I wasn’t poor, a made a million dollars a year, I doubt I could ever afford to own a TV or have Internet at home. It’s just too expensive.πŸ’²πŸ’²πŸ’² I had an HDTV tuner for two years which broke after a while. I hated watching television, except for PBS Newshour and lately all that show became was an hour of advocating for gun control and hatred of the president. πŸ”‡

Rather than make an awful multinational utility monopoly richer, I’d much rather give my $100 a month to something worthwhile like a charitable organization like a land conservancy or a conservation group.🌳🌻🐞

It was nice getting that thank you call today from the Hudson Mohawk Land Conservancy🌲 for my Christmas donationπŸŽ„ to them in the behalf of my parents. I just hate material stuff and traditional Christmas gift giving. 🎁Much rather just donate to charity, especially a good local charity.

What would you do with $1.5M? CNY man buys waterfalls, donates them to be parks

"For years, Manlius resident Harold Jones admired the staggering beauty of the two-tiered waterfalls at Delphi Falls in Madison County."

"When Jones saw the 60-acre property off Cardner Road - which includes the waterfalls, land and a home on the property - were for sale, he was instantly intrigued."

"I just couldn't resist,'' said Jones, 77, a retired Syracuse University Spanish professor. "They have to be the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen."

"Jones said he worried the waterfall, land and home on the property might get sold to another private individual. He wanted the chance to turn it into a public nature preserve so that everyone could enjoy the area, he said."

January 16, 2018 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. :DOr Pseudo Monday during this four day week after the Martin Luther King Holiday.🏢💰💰💰 Next Tuesday is National Pie Day.🍰 The snow has stopped for now. Cloudy and 18 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southeast breeze at 6 mph. The skies will clear tomorrow around 4 pm.

🐰Only 63 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🐣

Today will have a chance of light snow before 1pm, then snow likely after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high of 30 degrees at 2pm. Typical for today.❄ ❄❄ South wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies with more clouds in the afternoon. The high last year was 39 degrees. The record high of 62 was set in 1995. 15.1 inches of snow fell back in 1945.❄❄

The sun will set at 4:49 pm with dusk around 5:20 pm, which is one minute and 12 seconds later than yesterday. At sunset, look for snow and 30 degrees. There will be a south breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 27 minutes of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 43 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will snow. No question about that.  of 24 degrees at 5am. 10 degrees above normal. South wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible. In 2017, we had cloudy skies, clearing in the early hours of the next day. It got down to 19 degrees. The record low of -23 occurred back in 1971.

I’m tired of scraping my windshield so I’m trying out putting an old  tarp over the windshield to try to make it easier to clean off with less ice. 🚘❄Not sure how well it will work, it might freeze to the truck or rip, but that’s why I am using an old tarp. It was such a pain to clean off the windshield with the ice the other day, so hopefully this will work. I’m one for experimentation. The tarp is loosely put over the truck to avoid sticking and held down to ground using bottles of windshield washer fluid and antifreeze. It either will work or not. Worth a try.

After so many relatively mild winters, this seems like the first big one in years. Maybe not that terrible but it seems like most of this winter has been cold and snowy. ❄❄❄❄

As previously noted, next Tuesday is National Pie Day when the sun will be setting at 4:58 pm with dusk at 5:28 pm. On that day in 2017, we had rain, freezing rain, snow, sleet, mist, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 39 and 32 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 31 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1906.
