E.P.A. to Disband a Key Scientific Review Panel on Air Pollution – The New York Times
Well that's sooty ... "The 20-person Particulate Matter Review Panel, made up of experts in microscopic airborne pollutants known to cause respiratory disease, is responsible for helping the agency decide what levels of pollutants are safe to breathe. Agency officials declined to say why the E.P.A. intends to stop convening the panel next year, particularly as the agency considers whether to revise air quality standards. "

October 12, 2018 Morning
Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! They all seem alike, especially when he weather is crappy as it is today. For a while it was kind of nice but then it started to cloud back up with light rain and 50 degrees in North Syracuse. β There is a west-northwest breeze at 13 mph. π. Much cooler and blustery then yesterday. Six weeks to Buy Nothing Day ποΈ, that ever so excellent holiday after Turkey day for burning up calories in the wilderness hiking, hunting, and camping. You can “quote” me on that. I think last year on that I hiked Moxham Mountain and then camped on the East Branch.β° That was a fun day.
Today will have a chance of showers, mainly before 5pm. Mostly cloudy π₯, with a high of 52 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees below normal. West wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Right now it seems like I might be able to get out of the office for a while, but I don’t know of Gawd will cooperate on weather front. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 65 degrees. Nice weather like that would be nice. Maybe it’s saving up until mid-November. I sure love a deep blue sky November day with the temperatures in the mid-50s. The record high of 85 was set in 1954. There was a dusting of snow in 1904.β
The sun will set at 6:25 pm with dusk around 6:54 pm, which is one minute and 41 seconds earlier than yesterday. π At sunset, look for cloudy skies β and 50 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 13 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 10 minutes of daytime, an decrease of 2 minutes and 52 seconds over yesterday. Only a few more days until we are below eleven hours of daylight in the day time.
Tonight will have showers, mainly after midnight. π§ Low of 42 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. West wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 38 degrees. The record low of 24 occurred back in 1981. It can
This morning I went for a short walk on the board walk at Hamlin Marsh (hardly a walk) and was hoping to see some birds, π¦ but with wind and the rain most of them were hidden in the woods. Saw a few birds, but not a lot. It’s not Montezuma, and the weather was kind of bad with the strong wind and rains. But other that that a nice morning with the leaves out and rain reflecting some of the sunshine, and not a bad place to observe wildlife, although it sucks that there is so much road noise. Plus it was on the way to Walmart, where I had to stop buy and pick up some food for later. π§π½ I bought lots of cereal, as not only do I eat it for breakfast, it makes a nice snack. I don’t do candy or anything with too many calories, especially when I spend so much time in the office.
There are 25 days, 10 hours and 59 minutes until the poll close on Election Day in New York. π³ I am happy we are now down to 25, halfway through the process. One day closer to my November trip. I am hoping thought before then we will have some nicer weather when it’s not so busy in the office, so I can get out and enjoy some of the local parks before I leave the area, and the leaves are all gone from the tree. π Autumn is pretty but it’s not going to last.
I was thinking I probably should start planning on getting a free permit for camping at Hicks Run if I plan to go down to see the Elk.Β π¦Β It’s just a phone call but I need to finalize the plan so I can give them the days I want down there. I’m not concerned about getting a permit, the campground was empty the one night I stayed mid-week there in November a few years back. I should also consider going up to Hyner Run State Park to enjoy the view if it’s nice too. i wonder what kind of hiking is available there too? πΆ Although unless I plan to overnight at County Bridge or somewhere closer to New York, I wouldn’t have all that much time to poke around there. That said, I still think I may spend the bulk of my time in New York, just because I don’t have a Penna hunting license, although I could change my mind depending on the weather. Maybe I’ll decide to spend more time exploring,Β πΈ and less time hunting.
I am hoping that meter and shunts I order arrive and I am happy with them. π The online reviews seem pretty good, and while sometimes things are crap shoot when you order direct from China, I’ve always had pretty good luck with simple electronic components. A shunt should be good enough for my purposes, and the gauges they sell on EBay for twice as much are the exact same things you can order from China. It will be interesting to see how much power the solar panel produces on my truck under real-world conditions, rather then just guessing from the volt meter.
One month π from now, Veterans Day will be Observed πΊπΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:43 pm with dusk at 5:13 pm (Standard Time). The average high temperature is 49 degrees, with a record high of 68 in 1909. Should be a nice holiday — i should be somewhere in the Allegheny Wilds by that point or so I hope.π²
