February 27, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Snow Moon πŸŒ• ! Last night was nice, cleared out later on while I was sitting out back. Six weeks to 8 PM Dusk πŸŒ† . Rain showers mixed with sloppy snow and 33 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a south-southeast breeze at 14 mph. πŸƒ. Kind of a sloppy not very nice day outside but it should do some damage to the snow. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Temperatures will drop below freezing around 3 am. β˜ƒοΈ

I had my first cup of coffee β˜• and the hopped back in bed πŸ›. Feeling a little congestion today but at least my shoulder is feeling better. I must be falling apart, getting old πŸ‘΄πŸΌ. I’m looking forward to warmer weather this week with less snow on the ground. Not warm enough to open the windows ⬜but at least I won’t be using much heat.

Today will rain showers, snow showers, and sleet likely before 3pm, then a slight chance of rain showers between 3pm and 4pm. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 42 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 10th. South wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible. A year ago, we had light snow in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 61 was set in 1997. 3.6 inches of snow fell back in 2019.❄

No big plans today 🏑 but looking at the radar I might be able to go for a walk later. Thinking with the cloudy weather and the melted snow I might be able to do the rail trail πŸš‚ without the crowds but I’ll think about it – might to be icy and very sloppy. Maybe tomorrow or certainly possibly next weekend.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:09 pm with sun having an altitude of 39.2Β° from the due south horizon (-31.6Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 7.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 5:05 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (253Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west (260Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:43 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 57 seconds with dusk around 6:10 pm, which is one minute and 14 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Waining Gibbous πŸŒ– Moon in the east-northeast (77Β°) at an altitude of 1Β° from the horizon, 231,402 miles away. πŸš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:44 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 40 degrees. There will be a southwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Been thinking with all the snow lately 🐦, I haven’t seen as many robbins and birds around lately. Neighbor used to have bird feeder which probably brought more birds around. Maybe with the snow melting I’ll start to see more birds. I bet by next weekend at least locally it will be bare ground, although trails might be still quite muddy. πŸ‘’ I’m thinking in April I might go out to the Finger Lakes but I’m not totally decided on that yet.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 29 degrees at 6am. Nine degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 24th. Northwest wind 5 to 15 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -10 occurred back in 1950.

Tomorrow I’ll probably go out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. 🍲 Maybe mid day I’ll hike somewhere but I expect with the rain and snow melt things will be quite sloppy everywhere.

🌹🌻🌼Only 3 weeks remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼Day by day we get closer to spring. I got to renew my fishing 🎣 license. Looking forward to seeing the snow gone.

Looking ahead, there are 6 weeks until 8 PM Dusk πŸŒ† when the sun will be setting at 7:31 pm with dusk at 8:00 pm (Daylight Savings Time). Looking forward to go down to the park with a book πŸ“™ and read into the evening. On that day in 2020, we had partly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 48 and 37 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 56 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 1922.

Sitting out back under the full moon. πŸŒ•

Cool night but not that cold for sitting out back with a coat on. Listening to the Revisionist History podcast, looking at the brightly lit snow, although it’s not a real clear evening with heavy rain expected late in the evening until tomorrow. I think tomorrow will be a stay at home day. Chomping on some frozen pineapple and raspberries. My shoulder is still sore but it’s feeling a bit better this evening.

Season six of Revisionist History is coming later this spring. But meanwhile, season two of Pushkin’s great show Cautionary Tales is underway. Host Tim Harford brings us stories of awful human error, tragic catastrophes, daring heists and hilarious fiascos. In this episode: What are the risks of improvising a speech? One approach to public speaking is to memorize and get everything perfect, but risk seeming stilted and disconnected from your audience. Or you can try speaking off the cuff, sometimes resulting in disaster. As always with Cautionary Tales, there’s a twist.
