Apologizes to Fascists

How dare you say anything nice about Donald Trump? Embracing one policy of his is equivalent to embracing all policies of his – some will say. His policies all come from a bad place, even if they might potentially have good consequences. And this is why I really don’t say much political one way or another on social media, lest I awaken the woke.

By no means am I conservative, though I do often see value in conservative ideas. Why be stuck in your own stable of liberalism, when there are good ideas worth experimenting and trying? For too many years we’ve been captivated by the idea of free trade, ignoring the potential revenue and benefits of incentivizing people to buy fewer foreign goods made with often dubious environmental and labor standards. Let’s be honest, Mexican and Chinese factories are not good for environment or the workers who toil endless hours with horrifically toxic chemicals. America does it better! I also agree for too long things have been too stagnate in our government, and he is was in need of a good shakeup, even if it risks breaking some eggs and leading to bad things happening, like the most recent plane crash over Washington DC.

Even bad politicians can have good ideas. One can legitimately praise the work of Adolph Hilter for his parks, recreation and highway program. Or the technologies his regime developed like the Volkswagen Beatle, audio and chemistry innovations. Did Hitler drive off a lot of good scientists too, engage in the Holocaust killing millions of Jews and others and start the world’s most devastating war in World War II? Yes, but that doesn’t take away for the good he did for German people while also engaging in pure evil.

I’m a liberal Democrat. But I also see both sides, and are willing to buck my own party when I don’t necessarily agree with every policy. It’s okay to criticize your own folks when they are wrong. I think pragmatism has a lot of benefits, and we should consider the benefits of change and trying new things. I am not endorsing the immigrant raids, drill baby drill, or the political purges, I’m saying that if Trump has good ideas no matter what their basis are, we should give them serious consideration.

Starrdale Farms

Outside of South Bethlehem near the New Scotland town line. They have a lot of Dutch Belteds or Belted Galloway cattle, probably the prior but it's a bit hard to judge as a passing motorist.

Days Below Zero, Past 20 Years

This past weekend's negative 13 degree weather is quite rare in recent years. We've only had two days colder then that over the past two decades, and that was 15 years ago. Some of it's the urban heat island effect, while other is the climate is warming everywhere, New York included.
