A bit warmer than was originally expected for today but not so humid which is nice. The heat humidity creeps into tonight and will be with us for at least a week. It will be the dog days of summer.
Going to head down to the park in a bit…

Enjoying the nice evening before the yucky weather approaches.
Temperatures drop increasingly quick as fall comes.
The typical average high temperature is 83 degrees in Albany from July 13th through July 26th. This 13 day period is the hottest of the year in Albany.
Starting on July 27th, the average high is only 82 degrees. This lasts for 14 days until August 9th (today), when the average high drops to 81 degrees. This sounds great but the average temperature starts to decline at an accelerating rate as autumn approaches.
- The next 8 days will have an average high of 81 degrees.
- After that, 6 days will have an average high of 80 degrees.
- Only 4 days of an average high of 79 degrees.
- 4 days with an average high of 78 degrees.
Then September comes …
- 4 days with an average high of 77.
And then on average we lose a degree in temperature every 2 1/2 days …
- 3 days with an average high of 76.
- 3 days with an average high of 75.
- 2 days with an average high of 74.
- 3 days with an average high of 73.
- 2 days with an average high of 72.
- 3 days with an average high of 71.
- 2 days with an average high of 70.
The rate of dropping 1 degree every 2-3 days is near constant, until it slows around January as the we get to coldest day of the year (second week of January).

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Mostly sunny and 63 degrees in Delmar. Calm wind. The dew point is 56 degrees. Going to be the last nice day before a long stretch of cloudy and stormy weather.
A bit drowsy this morning. I’m not sure why I’m tired, I got to bed at a reasonable hour and slept well. Even though vacation is a week and a half in the rear view mirror, I’m still getting used to getting up late.
Today will be sunny, with a high of 87 degrees at 3pm. Five degrees above normal. Warm but not real humid. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 58 at 11am. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1955.

Tomorrow 5 to 6 am – chance of rain and slight chance of thunderstorms
Tomorrow 6 to 8 am – chance of rain and thunderstorms
Tomorrow 8 am to 12 pm – rain and thunderstorms – 0.16 inches expected
Tomorrow 12 to 8 pm – chance of rain and thunderstorms – 0.17 inches expected
Tomorrow 8 pm to Thu. 2 am – slight chance of rain and thunderstorms
Thursday 2 to 8 am – chance of rain and thunderstorms
The major disappointment of the week is the predicted weekend weather which will be mostly cloudy with times of heavy downpours. We need the rain but it kind of sucks to say the least. It annoys me as it seems like summer is rapidly fading in the rear view mirror.
There is 1 week until Altamont Fair Opens next Tuesday, August 16 when the sun will be setting at 7:54 pm with dusk at 8:24 pm. The average high temperature is 81 degrees, with a record high of 97 in 1936.
Today in 1974, Richard Nixon resigns as president putting the long national nightmare known as Watergate to bed. Gerald Ford, our nation’s only unelected president would serve the remaining term. He would be defeated by Jimmy Carter in the election of 1976.
Happy Birthday to Smokey the Bear. Today in 1944, theΒ United States Forest Service and the Wartime Advertising Council release posters featuringΒ Smokey BearΒ for the first time. Be careful what you’re burning out there, so you don’t piss off Pete Grannis’ gestapo and the liberals who hate all things fun.
