The Race for the Red Light
One of the behaviors that annoys me the most about other drivers, is those who race to to the red light.
When the traffic light turns red, you might as well just slow down, and coast to a stop — rather then maintain your speed and slam on your brakes the last possible minute.Β There is absolutely no reason to waste fuel or wear out your brakes prematurely. Your certainly not saving any time, by speeding towards a red light.

Weather Update – November 15, 2021
As we climb over the Hump of November on this Monday… πͺ
National Recycling Day, β»οΈ which is a good thing to celebrate by well cleaning out those tin cans and bottles. π₯« πΎ I like recycling, after all, many things don’t burn very well even if you live way out in the country like many folks in rural Pennsylvania who like making that stinky black smoke.
Even with the time change, the mornings are pretty dark here in the land of Delmaratian. π If I take the express bus home, I will be walking home in the dark πΆββοΈ from the express. I will take my decision to take the local or express, day by day, a lot depending on the weather. π
Tuesday will be cold but at least sunny. My south-facing office does let a lot of sunlight in π so it will at least be nice once I’m in the office but with that wind and temperatures in the 40s should be pretty cool, but in a few weeks we will be thinking that is a warm day as December becomes a reality. π
Thursday is one week to turkey day. π¦ It’s also the last sunset after 4:30 PM for a while, like around Christmas when we start getting more sunlight in the afternoon as the earth wobbles in favor of sunlight in the evening. π
This weekend I plan to stay in town, although if it’s decent on Saturday I’ll go to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center. πΈ I am planning doing Sunday lunches rather than dinners come next week as I find driving π home to be hard after dark with so much opposing traffic headlights on the rural roads.

As negotiators met in closed-door sessions, thousands of activists filled the streets to remind them the world has less than a decade to get greenhouse gases under control. Emissions need to fall around 45% by 2030 to give the world a chance of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2100 (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit). Instead, they're expected to rise almost 14% over the next nine years.
Good Morning – November 15, 2021
Good morning! It’s the second half of November on this Monday morning. π¦
Oh Monday morning, you gave me no warning of what was to be. Monday, Monday. National Recycling Day, for those who celebrate.
Cloudy and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. π. Temperatures will drop below freezing around 1 am. βοΈ
As they say, it must come around the guitar. πΈ We were just waiting for it, as Arlo Guthrie would say about driving garbage around Stockbridge, Massachusetts in Alice’s Restaurant. I am fully aware that my music collection is about fifty years out of date, but so is everything these days.
Kind of cloudy and damp morning, π¦ although the rain stopped earlier in the evening. My apartment is fairly warm as I’ve had the heat turned on since returning from vacation, and it works fairly well except when it’s cold out. I patched some of the air leaks in my apartment, and I’m willing now to just sit out the winter.
Coming home from camping I noticed that my kitchen and bathroom are kind of musty π so I’ve been working on scrubbing things down with bleach and ammonium, well the later until I ran out. I need to go to store and pick up more floor cleaner and other supplies this evening. I am pretty low on food and supplies after vacation. π²
I am ready to move forward on the winter mode of doing things, π¨ with fewer trips planned and more weekends spent at home. But I am busier with work this time of year, and I will have to figure out other projects of interest to pass the time over the winter. β»οΈ I’ve started separating out and cleaning the plastic bottles for recycling, so I can take them to the transfer station.
Yesterday I went out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center π. The leaves were mostly done and it’s cool enough there was less wildlife out and about πΏ than earlier in the autumn. Squrriels are moving a lot slower and less now that the nut harvest is done. π₯ Kind of like the farmers and the silage. π½
Things are unpacked and mostly put away from vacation. π‘ That said, I usually leave a lot of the camping gear in the truck because it’s not that much weight and I don’t do that much traveling by auto except for camping. I am hoping to get out of town the weekend after Thanksgiving, probably to the Adirondacks. π»
Been reading up on tmap πΊ r library, which is designed to simplify the making of thematic maps in R. There is so many neat things you can do in R with a few lines of code, the R libraries and piping mechanism set up with dplyr is very powerful. π₯
