Chocolate Cake Day 2016 Night

Good evening. Currently mostly clear and 22 degrees in Albany. Big Gibbous Moon but the stars are decent but somewhat washed-out from the moonlight. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 21. Light and variable wind. Nice evening but cold. But it’s the end of January. A February warm up may be on its way.

The Waning Gibbous Moon is roughly 74% illuminated. I always find the look of the Waning Gibbous Moon to be a little creepy the way the earth’s shadow is on it and how it rises relatively late in the evening. Tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 7:12 am with first light at 6:42 am, which is one minute and 56 seconds earlier then today. We are now picking up earlier sunrises at an accelerating rate as spring approaches.

The Albany County Young Democrats meeting was fun, catching up with lots of people I haven’t seen in a long time and some others I know from around town. I’m now a dues paying member, the first time in a number of years. Glad to see they have a very active chapter once again.

Went out for my evening walk. A bit chilly but with a jacket it’s reasonable as there is no wind. The bright moonlight is great.

Continue to work on automating stuff in QGIS. I tell myself I’m done but then I keep thinking up handy code I can write. Darnest time I have is figuring out which objects and methods I have to use to edit various parameters – there is basic class documentation but not every coding idea I have is self evident. I really like the python language, it’s very elegant and straightforward. Perl back in the day was great but I can understand how python has somewhat replaced it. PHP is great for web stuff but despite its many uses, it has a lot of weakness for most non-web applications.

I hope you had a good Chocolate Cake Day. I hope you got to enjoy a nice big slice. It’s getting late. Good night. Sleep well!

Chocolate Cake Day 2016 Evening

Good evening on this Chocolate Cake Day. Currently partly cloudy and 34 degrees in Delmar. It’s nice having the sun still up when you get out of work. The commutes aren’t nearly so dark and the mornings are a lot brighter.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 21. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Waining Gibbous Moon with 74% illuminated. It will rise at 8:47 pm.

Thursday will be sunny with increasing clouds as the day progresses, with a high near 39. South wind 6 to 13 mph. Not that bad for January.

In two weeks the sun will be setting at 5:20 pm, which is 18 minutes later then tonight. The sunset in four weeks on Feb. 24 is at 5:38 pm. Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 13 is 1 month, 17 days away. Sunset on that day which is at 7:00 pm.

Speaking of 7 pm, the Albany County Young Democrats meeting is tonight, the first one I’ve been to since 2011. For a while they didn’t have much in meetings then for a while I could make it because I was traveling for work. It will be fun, although I think most of the people I know from Young Democrats have aged out. I’m 33, so I only have two years left.

Chocolate Cake Day 2016 Morning

Good morning! Chocolate Cake Day. Yum. It is partly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar. January thaw. Partly sunny, with a high near 40. Breezy, with a west wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of occasional snow showers is 30%.

Sunset will be at 5:02 pm with twilight at 5:32 pm which is one minute and 18 seconds later then yesterday. Pretty nice with the clearing later. Keep an eye out for a nice sunset.
Tonight we will have a Waining Gibbous Moon with 74% illuminated. It will rise at 8:47 pm. The Last Quarter Moon is on Sunday and the New Moon is on February 8.

There are 2 months, 19 days until Tax Day. I still have to finish my taxes, by they are mostly done. I love the free-file option. This day in 2006, Western Union discontinues its Telegram and Commercial Messaging services. “Western Union man, now you have gone away, dot-dot-da-da-dot, telegram had to say you learned you way the hard way, Western Union, oh Western Union….” Or something like that the Five Americans sung a long time ago. That said, I’m too young to remember the heyday of telegrams but then again neither do my parents, which by the 1960s were mostly only used for official pronouncements.

Today is Hump Day and the weekend is rapidly approaching.. I’m undecided about going up to the Adirondacks. I might head up north or not. It depends on the weather. Gas certainly is inexpensive these days.

I stayed up too late last night and woke up early. I feel well rested this morning but I don’t know if my energy levels will crash later on. I expect a quiet day at work, which ensures a crisis will happen this morning. Smooth and easy days are rare to happen.
