October 30, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 59 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. The dew point is 54 degrees. Rare to have such mild weather in late October, most of my windows are open in bedroom and I’m listening to the crickets. 🐸 In late October. Friday is November. Cold this weekend though. ❄

I went over to John Wolcott house for a while and continued going through his files πŸ“‚ but I quit early as I was feeling congested and tired 😴 after a long day at work. I don’t think I am getting sick again as I never really recovered the first time but I think both of us were ready to stop.

Returned my library books πŸ“š after I go home for my evening walk 🚢. Now I won’t have to worry about that with the rain. Plus… That’s still a mile plus round trip, earlier in the day I walked to Mr. Wolcott’s house 🏑 and also to the express bus in the morning. With more rain β˜” expected tomorrow I doubt I’ll do lots of walking but I could always ride the exercise bike 🚲.

Tonight will have patchy drizzle before 2am, then showers likely after 2am. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 58 degrees at 11pm. 23 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 30th. A summer night in nearly November. Maximum dew point of 57 at 6am. At least not sticky. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 7 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had clear skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 18 occurred back in 1988.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon πŸŒ’ with 19% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:17 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Sunday night. The Beaver Moon 🌝 is on Monday, November 11th. The sun will rise at 7:26 am with the first light at 6:57 am, which is one minute and 15 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 13 hours and 36 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 36 seconds over last night.

Halloween πŸŽƒ will have showers likely before 11am, then patchy drizzle with a chance of showers between 11am and noon, then rain likely after noon. Cloudy 🌦, with a high of 69 degrees at 2pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 24th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 5pm. South wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 61 degrees. The record high of 73 was set in 1946. 0.1 inches of snow fell back in 1913.❄

Going to be a wet and wild one by evening tomorrow. πŸƒ After work I’ll probably come straight home, have dinner, work on some electronics projects πŸ”¬ and ride the exercise bike 🚲. I haven’t done any soldering projects in a while and it’s fun to build stuff. The morning might be decent enough to walk to the express bus 🚍 so I’ll get in a few steps that way plus have a good easy trip into work.

Returning the books to the library πŸ“š made me sad to think my road trip is now four weeks in the rear view mirror as they were due back Friday, and I took the books out the evening before I left for my trip. That said, I have some fun trips planned for November.

I tell you with the lower fines and penalties 🚬 pot smoking is becoming a lot more common in the cities. In Troy I saw people smoking it at the bus stop, smelled it many times canvassing. And it stunk tonight on Lark Street in Albany. People used to do it a lot but people are much more open about it than ever before now that it’s no longer a crime to smoke in public and its only a $50 ticket 🎫. The confiscated value of the pot exceeds the civil fine, most of which will never be paid.

Let’s be honest, pot smells kind of smells nasty. I know, as somebody who burns all kinds of things including things I probably shouldn’t, who also likes agriculture (manure) and the outdoors (dead animals) , I really shouldn’t talk. I always thought the restrictions on marijuana were kind of silly πŸ˜‹ and we were locking people up for silly reasons but odor and smoked cannabis is a serious concern. It might be fun but it’s not worth the high price for me.

In four weeks on November 27 the sun will be setting at 4:24 pm (Standard Time),πŸŒ„ which is one hour, 26 minutes and 41 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 43 and 23 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 43 and 28 degrees. The record high of 66 degrees was set back in 1896.

Looking ahead, Day After Election Day πŸ›€ is in 1 weeks, Average Night Below Freezing 🌌 is in 2 weeks, Small Business Saturday πŸ›οΈ is a month away, Average High is 40 🌨 is in 5 weeks, Christmas πŸŽ… is in 8 weeks, New Years Day 2019 πŸŽ‡ is in 9 weeks, National Bird Day 🐦 is in 11 weeks, 37th Birthday πŸŽ‰ is in 13 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 πŸ‘΄πŸ» is in 64 weeks.

Six Verbs That Make You Sound Weak (No Matter Your Job Title)

Six Verbs That Make You Sound Weak (No Matter Your Job Title)

Your job title isn’t the only thing that determines how influential you are. Every word you use at work expresses your personal brand, from your confidence and authority to your depth of knowledge. And it’s verbs–those action words that should be the engine of a sentence–that most often trip us up.

Overusing certain weak verbs can make you sound weaker, too. They can undercut your ability to inspire others and suggest to listeners–from top executives and colleagues to your direct reports–that you aren’t really sure of yourself. So while there’s certainly room for uncertainty in any workplace, you might want to trim these verbs from your vocabulary.

I am guilty as charged when it comes to using words like this.

White Rocks

This weekend I am thinking of heading up to White Rocks National Recreation Area. It’s a ways north of Manchester between Mount Tabor and Wallingford along Forest Road 10.

Gray Day

Wetlands

November

Sunday I’ll probably hike the White Rocks Overlook.

White Rocks Mountain

White Rocks Overlook

It was a nice trip when I went four years ago, and it’s not super far away from home for a weekend trip in early November. It should be quiet, with just a handful of small game hunters and others around.
