August 28, 2020 Night

Good evening! Partly clear and 72 degrees in Delmar, NY. Calm wind. ๐ŸŒ†The dew point is 59 degrees.

It was a nice walk ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿป out to Five Rivers this evening ๐Ÿฆ although I wish I had brought my binoculars and it didn’t get dark so early this time of year. Sat out back for a while but I’m tired ๐Ÿ˜ด and wanted to take my contacts out so I’m in bed. ๐Ÿ› Still a nice day out there and I prefer the walk out there to driving – somehow it just feels a lot farther away and more rural when you walk then drive.

I am continuing to research used bicycles ๐Ÿšฒ online, especially ones that are simple traditional bikes for commuting. Also started to look at good bike routes and how long it would take to bike to various places I like to visit locally. You don’t realize how far and quickly you can cover in an automobile ๐Ÿš˜ outside of the city. ๐Ÿ™ But on the other hand, bikes are super fast for getting around urban areas when you consider the time it takes to park. ๐Ÿ…ฟ I do think I shouldn’t quit motoring ๐Ÿ cold turkey ๐Ÿฆƒ but should try to transition away from driving over the next year. Bicycling to get around town can be tricky with the snow and ice and the rusty chain and parts from the salt. Money ๐Ÿ’ต is just always so tight these days and driving is expensive.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, increasing clouds ๐ŸŒง, with a low of 61 degrees at 6am. Three degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 13th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 59 degrees. The record low of 34 occurred back in 1982.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous ๐ŸŒ” Moon with 83% illuminated. At 8 PM, the moon was in the south-southeast (156ยฐ) at an altitude of 20ยฐ from the horizon, some 236,328 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. ๐Ÿš€ At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by February 24th. Buckle up for safety! ๐Ÿ’บ The Harvest ๐ŸŒฝ Moon is on Tuesday, September 1. The darkest hour is at 12:58 am, followed by dawn at 5:48 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:17 am in the east-northeast (76ยฐ) and last for 2 minutes and 59 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:55 am with sun in the east (83ยฐ). Tonight will have 10 hours and 41 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 44 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Patchy fog before 9am. ๐ŸŒง High of 80 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 23rd. Maximum dew point of 71 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 2018.

Tomorrow is going to be a stay home day. ๐Ÿก I guess if it’s not rainy โ˜” in the afternoon I might walk down to the Town Park but I don’t have big plans for the day at any rate. Sunday looks a whole lot better. I do want to read ๐Ÿ“– tomorrow and there may be some work stuff to do this weekend.

In four weeks on September 25 the sun will be setting in the west (269ยฐ) at 6:46 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 49 minutes and 8 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 76 and 50 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 68 and 48 degrees. The record high of 91 degrees was set back in 2017.

Facebook suggested a bunch of new off-grid groups to follow ๐Ÿก and they’re kind of interesting. I’m still following my saving and investments plan, but it’s just a matter of time. But truth be told I’m making good money at my job now ๐Ÿ’ฐand the work is fun and interesting and varied from what it is. I like being able to visit my parents and travel while I’m still fairly young ๐Ÿฎ before I own my off-grid property and are stuck there more settled down. But then I’ll have much less of a need to travel to the wilderness to get away. ๐Ÿบ

I really do want to move back to a small town and own land, and it makes me jealous of those people who I know who have but maybe someday. ๐Ÿฝ I know it’s all those North Idaho pig farmers I follow on the YouTube and the smell of silage ๐ŸŒฝ that is burned into my nostrils ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป after my week in the Finger Lakes.

And I can’t believe that Raymore and Flanigan is trying to sell me a sofa ๐Ÿ›‹๏ธ in the Podcast App I use nearly every time I open it. ๐ŸŽง With all the off grid and farm channels I follow do they really think ๐Ÿค” I’m going to be in the market for an expensive sofa. I heard moldy junk ones do burn really black in bonfires. ๐Ÿ”ฅ Maybe because I live in yuppie Delmar even though my heart โ™ฅ is in the woods or maybe cow and corn country. But then again I’ve been seeing ads for boots after Googling the word boot-licker. ๐Ÿ‘ข I guess a boot-licker needs something to lick when they’re not sucking up. ๐Ÿ‘…

Looking ahead, Labor Day Weekend Begins ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 1 week, September 11th ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 2 weeks, 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 3 weeks, Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 5 weeks, Average High is 55 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 2 months, Average Night Below Freezing ๐ŸŒŒ is in 11 weeks, Buy Nothing Day ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 13 weeks, Small Business Saturday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ is in 3 months, Average High is 40 ๐ŸŒจ is in 14 weeks, Bake Cookies Day ๐Ÿช is in 16 weeks, Christmas ๐ŸŽ… is in 17 weeks, 4:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 4 months, New Years Day 2020 ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 18 weeks, Bubble Bath Day ๐Ÿงผ is in 19 weeks, Wolf Moon ๐ŸŒ• is in 5 months and 37th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‰ is in 22 weeks.

Oh, my birthday ๐ŸŽ‚ is on a Friday. ๐Ÿ˜Š Might be fun if the pandemic is over but I have my doubts. Getting drunk at the bar during a pandemic ๐Ÿป is probably a terrible idea and who knows how many of my favorite truly hole in the wall waterhole will survive the pandemic. At least I probably won’t have to work late that night. I do remember how I spent my 36th birthday but at least I got paid ๐Ÿ’ต for it.

Warren County survey shows emerald ash borer infestation has likely spread | Adirondack Explorer

It appears more than just a few ash trees at the Warren County boat launch in Chester are infected with the emerald ash borer, surveyors are finding.

The Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) and the state Department of Environmental Conservation began checking ash trees within a five-mile radius of the boat launch after the invasive insect was found earlier this month. It was the first known infestation in the Adirondack Park.
