sycophant – definition and meaning
Sycophancy – Wikipedia
In modern English, sycophant denotes an "insincere flatterer" and is used to refer to someone practicing sycophancy (i.e. insincere flattery to gain advantage). The word has its origin in the legal system of Classical Athens. Most legal cases of the time were brought by private litigants as there was no police force and only a limited number of officially appointed public prosecutors. By the fifthοΏ½century BCE this practice had given rise to abuse by "sycophants": litigants who brought unjustified prosecutions.
Five Rivers
I decided to walk out to Five Rivers this evening. Sunsets are early with September around the corner so I have little time to dilly dally.

One surprising upside of Trump… Peace β
One surprising upside of Trump… Peace β
While liberals for a while were pretty certain that President Trump was going to get us into war with Iran over his silly pissing match, one thing that seems likely is that we will get through his presidency without war.
Probably mostly dumb luck because the president has alienated both our allies and opponents alike and has managed to distabilize the world and actively worked to undermine global cooperation and unity. But I also think Trump is an isolationist and really doesn’t want to get the country into war.
Yet, that’s a terrible way to act on the international stage and it seems rather unbelievable that we are turning our back on the globe. We can and should do better.
