But the bigger human footprint on the moon is, arguably, theย 96ย bagsof human wasteย left behind by the six Apollo missions that landed there.

Yes, our brave astronauts took dumps on their way to the moon, perhaps even on the moon, andย they left behind their diapers in baggies, on humanityโ€™s doorstep to the greater cosmos.

The bags have lingered there, and no one knows what has become ofthem. Now scientists want to go back, and answer a question that has profound implications for our future explorations of Mars: Is anything alive in them?

April 1, 2019 – Growing Corn Is A Major Contributor To Air Pollution, Study Finds – NPR

That changed Monday with aย study publishedย inย Nature Sustainability. It modeled how the production of a single crop, maize, contributes to air pollution in the U.S. The researchers found that corn production accounts for 4,300 premature deaths related to air pollution in every year. Ammonia from fertilizer application was by far the largest contributor to corn's air pollution footprint.

They always release the best studies on April Fools Day.ย  That said, I'm sure people will believe this and share it for the next ten years on the internet.ย

Still a lot of snow around on April 1st

As you can see, while the snow is gone from the Albany-area, and most of Albany County on this April Fools Day in 2019, there is still quite a bit of snow in most of the Adirondacks, and even Southern Madison County. Fortunately though, I wasn’t planning on doing any road trips for camping for at least a few more weeks.

An official with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said it's still not clear what caused the bridge's concrete railing to come crashing down onto the I-24 merger with I-75 below. However, officials are confident the bridge is structurally sound and will not cause further injuries.

The bridge was inspected in the middle of last year and showed the bridge was structurally fair, according to TDOT regional bridge manager Steve Hutchings. "It had normal problems that an older bridge would have, but there was nothing structurally wrong with it," he said. "There was no reason for us to suspect anything like this would happen. Everything was in good condition."

Observation: When parts of your bridge fall off, even when it's just a concrete guide rail, it hardly wins over public confidence. It actually, is similiar, at least in the piece that fell off, to the bridge in Syracuse.

New York passes statewide organics mandate, plastic bag ban | Waste Dive

Effective January 2022, any establishment that generates more than two tons of food waste per week must separate material for donation and arrange for inedible scraps to be taken to an organics recycler within 25 miles. Temporary waivers will be granted by the state based on factors such as cost and distance.

While the plastic bag ban got all the news ๐Ÿ“ฐ in the state budget, I think the food waste ban is likely to have a much greater environmental impact going forward with much less impact on consumers. Yet because it's not bright and flashy it's unlikely to get the news coverage.
