September 8, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 54 degrees in Dormansville, NY. πŸŒƒ Calm wind. The dew point is 51 degrees. The skies will clear around 10 pm.

It was a nice weekend with lots of hiking 🚢 and helping out with trail work. I enjoyed hiking the Harding Road Trail, it might be fun to do again when the leaves are off the trees again. But before it’s icy, obviously as there is some steep drop offs from the trail. Definitely a good trail and not the crowds of other trails, especially if you park on Whites Road Parking Area πŸ…Ώ and hike back from there. I should also think about hiking the Sleepy Hollow Horse Trail 🐴next time. Saves gas compared to driving up into the mountains and gets the heart β™₯ pumping blood and working well. Harding Road used to be a horse trail but after some of the original stone bridges washed out after Irene it was downgraded to hiking only.πŸŒ€ Parts of the trail are pretty rough at least for horse back and kind of tough on my ankles and knees with the long downgrade. 😩 Gawd I’m getting old. I need to hike more.

I noticed one of the Bear Hunters 🐻 I passed up there, harvested a bear later in the evening and posted it on NY Hunt Club Facebook group. Good for him. Another person I knew from High School also apparently got a bear up there with a handgun a few days ago. There really are a ton of bears around North South Lake Campground – I’ve seen more hiking around there than any other part of the Adirondacks or Catskills I’ve seen which is backed up by the DEC harvest statistics. πŸ”« If I had land I would Big Game hunt but I have no place to drain a deer or bury guts.

Parents cooked chicken for dinner πŸ” and I’m staying overnight in my truck. Im hoping to get a good night’s sleep, it’s good sleeping weather and lately I’ve not been sleeping well. I got non stick spray today at the store after hiking and I’ll either get sweet corn 🌽 tomorrow or maybe at the Farmers Market on Wednesday. 🚜

CNN climate forum: Warren blasts the plastic straw debate as a fossil fuel industry distraction tactic – Vox

“Oh, come on, give me a break,” Warren said in response to the lightbulb question, in one of the breakout moments of the night. “This is exactly what the fossil fuel industry wants us to talk about. ... They want to be able to stir up a lot of controversy around your lightbulbs, around your straws, and around your cheeseburgers, when 70 percent of the pollution, of the carbon that we’re throwing into the air, comes from three industries.”

Why Britain Has The Best Wall Sockets On Earth

Why Britain Has The Best Wall Sockets On Earth

Anyone who has traveled to the United Kingdom has probably marveled at the imperial bulk of the standard U.K. wall plug. With three chunky, rectangular pins, the design at first glance seems almost ridiculously inefficient, especially compared to the svelte footprints of the U.S. and European wall plugs, which manage to get juice to your electronics in under half the space.

But first impressions can be deceiving. In fact, as Tom Scott explains in a new video, the U.K. wall plug is a design classic that is substantially safer than any other plug design on Earth.

All Points

One phrase that has fallen out of common use except for law enforcement, is “all points”. That term was much more common in 1960s, but it almost never used anymore. Until the 1980s, the Massachussets Turnpike often had signs for entrance ramps that took you east bound or west bound, that would say “To All Points”.
