September 11, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Today is September 11th! ๐Ÿ—ฝ ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ One generation later. Hard to believe that 1โƒฃ 9โƒฃ years has come and gone since that day when I was a freshman in college ๐ŸŽ“. Next Friday is 7 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ†. And then the days only get shorter at an accelerating rate. Light drizzle and 60 degrees in Delmar, NY. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ The air smells like diesel smoke and silage. ๐Ÿšœ The milk is good in the coffee โ˜•. Autumn is coming. There is a north breeze at 8 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 56 degrees. The skies will clear around 9 am.

It’s amazing how fast a generation comes and goes, ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ how that morning with the deep blue skies in Plymouth Sundance ๐Ÿš˜ was a half lifetime ago, how much different it was being a freshman in college and all the freedom of being young and in the big city entailed ๐ŸŽ“. So many things have changed while so many other things remain the same. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

My cynical outlook on America hasn’t changed or my criticism of the boot lickers ๐Ÿ‘ข hasn’t changed. You can believe in America and our freedoms without worship ๐Ÿ› of jack-booted thugs. Freedom ain’t about the worship of government workers, it’s the right to be left alone from the bullies. ๐Ÿบ Two decades later I still turn to Amy Goodman and Democracy Now for a lot of my news ๐Ÿ“ฐ. Such good reporting on the days after September 11th. She is so short the one time I met her, and gotten a lot older and gray. But haven’t we all.

Today will be mostly cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 4pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 18th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 7am. North wind 8 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1931.

I have a Zoom Meeting at noon today which I’ll probably go down to the park ๐Ÿž to do. It’s a nice change from the library when the weather is nice. I bet once the leaves change it will be really nice. ๐Ÿ‚ I also should

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 51.7ยฐ from the due south horizon (-19.1ยฐ vs. 6/21). We’ve almost lost twenty degrees in sun altitude from the first day of summer. ๐Ÿ“A six foot person will cast a 4.7 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:36 pm with the sun in the west (270ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (277ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:13 pm after setting for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:40 pm, which is one minute and 46 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:16 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 63 degrees. The dew point will be 46 degrees. There will be a north breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 12 hours and 40 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 45 degrees at 6am. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around September 30th. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 36 occurred back in 1875.

Tomorrow will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 3pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around September 18th. Maximum dew point of 50 at 12pm. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. It was humid. The high last year was 68 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.

Looking ahead to Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 5pm. โ˜” Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. South wind 9 to 15 mph. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธChance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 63 at 4pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 74 degrees.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Average High is 65 ๐Ÿ‚ when the sun will be setting at 6:34 pm with dusk at 7:02 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 75 and 49 degrees. We hit a record high of 85 back in 1927.

Indian Lake Mountain

August 10, 2020 Evening

Good evening! Partly cloudy โ˜๏ธand 79 degrees at the Finger Lakes National Forest. ๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒณ There is a south-southwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 68 degrees. The muggy weather ends Wednesday around 7 pm. ๐Ÿ˜“

I don’t think I would describe today as bad day, ๐Ÿ˜’but things didn’t quite go exactly to plan. While I did get a shower ๐Ÿšฟ in and about five minutes of swimming โšก it wasn’t the full day of swimming ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ I had planned. I was prepared for thunderstorms โ›ˆ in the evening but not the countless rumbles of thunder after 2 pm. I guess I can’t complain about the rain much – I didn’t get wet until very briefly at Clute Park ๐Ÿ’ง and I was dry by the time I got back to camp.

I like the Watkins Glen State Park pool ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ a lot but this year is like no other. During the pandemic we are all living through I was really freaked out by the crowds at the entrance and the pool. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง While I’ve never been a real people person, crowds are scary during a pandemic. ๐Ÿ‘พEven parts of the trail – until I got west of the trail were kind of scary with the crowds. I tried to maintain my social distance and flip the mask over my face ๐Ÿ˜ท but sometimes it’s just scary. I want to enjoy my vacation in these most scary times, but I also don’t want to end up on a ventilator choking for life, all alone in a hospital ๐Ÿฅ.

I couldn’t get goggles anywhere in Watkins Glen ๐Ÿ‘€ so I guess I will have to do without. Hopefully my eyes won’t get too irritated from the pool chlorine. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ That said after today’s experience I don’t expect to be spend a lot more time in the parks although I do like a good shower ๐Ÿšฟ or swim ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ while camping. I thought a Monday at the parks in August would be a heck of a lot quieter. It seems like everybody is craving outdoor recreation during the pandemic. ๐Ÿž Or maybe it’s just I notice people and crowds a lot more during the pandemic. ๐Ÿ˜ท I can wear a mask and wash my hands ๐Ÿ‘ good bit there is only so much I can do.

Glen Dairy Bar was good ๐Ÿฅค, ultimately I decided on a strawberry ๐Ÿ“ slushy over ice cream. No complaints there, I could taste the pieces of strawberry in it. I am sure I’ll be back for more tomorrow. Thinking ice cream tomorrow. That banana ๐ŸŒ sundae I saw somebody have looked amazing. Of course with social distancing these days the lines look much larger but they were busy too with the hot weather. ๐Ÿจ๐Ÿง๐Ÿฆ

Sat down by Seneca Lake for a while ๐Ÿผ/strong>๒Žฑกnd it was quite pleasant but a fair number of people around. Started to walk along the shoreline and the sky just opened up and started to pour. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Ran back to my truck and by the time I got to Bennettsville the sky was clear. โ˜€ Go figure. It looks like they got pounded with rain just north of Elmira today. I wonder if there was flooding or storm damage down that way ?

Made up hot sausage paddy burgers ๐Ÿ” with American cheese which when the bun is well toasted and with some ketchup is quite the treat. I often also put red sauce on the patties but not this time as I decided to bring only one cooler so I have limited space for cold stuff. I actually like them better than beef burgers ๐Ÿฅฉ but don’t tell a cow that. I also had a couple of beers ๐Ÿปto wash the day away.

I normally bring too coolers but last minute on Saturday I decided to leave one home to save space. ๐Ÿ—ƒ I am already regretting that decision as it limits meal choices. ๐Ÿด In the early spring or late fall one cooler is fine but this time of year I like to have two so I can store both cold and cool foods. But I get tired of always buying so much ice and having to move and clean with two coolers all the time. โ„ Ice takes up a lot of space but true automotive refrigerators use a lot of electricity expensive and aren’t real energy efficient. โšก

Tonight will become mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 69 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at pm. South wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 54 degrees. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1941.

Tonight will have a Last Quarter ๐ŸŒ— Moon with 56% illuminated. The moon will rise at 11:50 pm. The Strugeon ๐Ÿก Moon is on Monday, August 24. The darkest hour is at 1:14 am, followed by dawn at 5:40 am, and sun starting to rise at 6:11 am in the east-northeast (68ยฐ) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ The golden hour ends at 6:50 am with sun in the east-northeast (75ยฐ). Tonight will have 9 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Sunny and hot ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 93 degrees at 3pm. 12 degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 10am. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 98 was set in 1944.

Tomorrow planning on another early start, ๐ŸŒ… I think first heading for a good swim ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ at the Watkins Glen State Park Pool then paddling from the new boat ๐Ÿ›ฅ launch just east of Clute Park. Lake was very placid today and I expect the same tomorrow but I’m more concerned about thunderstorms tomorrow. โ›ˆ I got some nice muffins to have with my coffee โ˜• tomorrow morning.

Heading to bed ๐Ÿ› early so I can get up early. Between the clouds ๐ŸŒฅ and the fact I was tired ๐Ÿ˜ด decided against a hike to Foster Pond tonight. Still a ton of people camping up there tonight. I came out here a large part for that great pool I’ll be disappointed if I can’t have some good fun in the sun tomorrow.

In four weeks on September 7 the sun will be setting in the west (278ยฐ) at 7:30 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 44 minutes and 36 seconds earlier then today. In 2019 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 73 and 52 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 76 and 55 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1945. Just another reminder that autumn is coming.

Looking ahead, Average High Falls To 79 ๏ธDegrees โ›ฑ๏ธ๏ธ๏ธ is in 2 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 4 weeks, 6:30 Sunrise ๐ŸŒ‡ is a month away, Columbus Day ๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ is in 9 weeks, Average High is 50 ๐Ÿ‚ is in 3 months, Cyber Monday ๐Ÿ›๏ธ and Beaver Moon ๐ŸŽ‘ is in 16 weeks, 7:15 AM Sunrise โŒ›๏ธ is in 4 months, First Day of Winter โ˜ƒ๏ธ is in 19 weeks, 4:30 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 20 weeks, Winnie the Pooh Day ๐Ÿฏ is in 23 weeks, Martin Luther King Day ๐Ÿ–ค is in 23 weeks, 5 PM Sunset ๐ŸŒ† is in 24 weeks, February ๐ŸŒง is in 25 weeks and Clean Your Computer Day ๐Ÿงน is in 6 months. So you have a lot of time for garbage to accumulate on your computers before it’s time for a big bonfire. ๐Ÿ’พ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Hot but nice morning

July 14, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly sunny and 69 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 62 degrees. With the lower dew point and the sun it’s a pretty nice morning.

I made a pot of coffee โ˜• in percolator and then cooled it in the sink and put it in the freezer to make it cold. While not super hot today, I kind of prefer my coffee cold this time of year. On iced coffee per se with all the sugar but still cold and refreshing with milk ๐Ÿฎ is always good.

Today will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1pm. Partly sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 81 degrees at 2pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around August 10th. Maximum dew point of 64 at 10am. Cooler but still really muggy. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1995.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:02 pm with sun having an altitude of 69ยฐ from the due south horizon (-1.9ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. While it can be real hot for six more weeks – or maybe a bit longer – shadows are growing longer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (294ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (301ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:33 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 22 seconds with dusk around 9:05 pm, which is 37 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:50 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 74 degrees. The dew point will be 63 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours of daytime, a decrease of one minute and 26 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy ๐ŸŒค, with a low of 60 degrees at 4am. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around August 14th. Maximum dew point of 63 at 7pm. Should be decent sleeping ๐Ÿ˜ด by later on which is good as I’ve been up too late lately. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1950.

On this day in 1969, the $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 bills are officially withdrawn from circulation. ๐Ÿ’ต After this date, if you wanted to buy a large purchase in cash or bribe a politician, you needed a lot of hundred dollars in bills. They had last been printed in 1945, and were finally dropped from circulation in 1969, in part as an effort to reduce corruption and money scams. ๐Ÿ‘” I just remember that time I was walking during lunch and two men were handing off a big stack of hundred ๐Ÿ’ฏ dollar bills ๐Ÿ’ฐin an alleyway. I’m sure they were just buying a car or something and it wasn’t some mid level bureaucrat taking a bribe. Shit doesn’t happen like that in Albany, which is America’s most ethical capital.

Going to be a nice, hot summer weekend. ๐ŸŠ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Maximum dew point of 68 at 8am. Sunday, scattered showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 91. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Maximum dew point of 69 at 9am. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.

Looking ahead, there are 16 weeks until Election Day 2020 ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ when the sun will be setting at 4:45 pm with dusk at 5:14 pm (Standard Time). On that day in 2019, we had partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 53 and 30 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 53 degrees. We hit a record high of 75 back in 1990.

Straight Thru the Plains

June 11, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Rain and 75 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜” There is a south breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 69 degrees. The skies will clear around 1 pm.

Back home again ๐Ÿก after a week in the Adirondacks. It was a week ago that I left for the Adirondacks. Last night I got things mostly unpacked and will finish up this morning. It’s not a bad thing though as I needed a good shower, ๐Ÿšฟ I was running low on supplies ๐ŸŽ, and it’s quite wet ๐Ÿ’ฆ this morning.

All good things have to come to an end. โ˜€ The Adirondacks trip over but I might be back in a few weeks – not this weekend but maybe the following weekend. I think it won’t long before I’m back there. I’m pretty sure that this remote work is coming to an end as Phase 3 of the reopening gets underway.

Today will have showers and thunderstorms likely before 4pm, then isolated showers between 4pm and 5pm, then isolated showers and thunderstorms after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒง, with a high of 85 degrees at 3pm. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 9am. Southwest wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with more sun in the afternoon. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1947.

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:56 pm with sun having an altitude of 70.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-0.3ยฐ vs. 6/21). The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:51 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:34 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 27 seconds with dusk around 9:08 pm, which is 32 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 9:54 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 59 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 9 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 39 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear ๐ŸŒƒ, with a low of 57 degrees at 4am. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 15th. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. West wind 5 to 9 mph. In 2019, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 50 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1972.

On this day in 1963, Buddhist monk Thรญch Quแบฃng ฤแปฉc burns himself with gasoline in a busy Saigon intersection to protest the lack of religious freedom in South Vietnam. ๐Ÿ”ฅ The self-immolation would be captured on film and would go around the world. On the same day, John F. Kennedy addresses Americans from the Oval Office proposing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that propsed equal access to public facilities, โœŠ end segregation in education and guarantee federal protection for voting rights.โ˜‘

Cool but sunny this weekend. โ˜€ Saturday, a slight chance of showers after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 50 at 7pm. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Maximum dew point of 54 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 77 degrees.

Rapids to Flatwater

Yeah for the Third Parties !

Found my Gadsden Flag in my truck

I was reading about the local elections in Britain and how more and more people are choosing third parties for their local representative. I think it’s exciting to think that alternatives to mainstream parties are being considered more often. I would hope there would be more choices then the Democratic and Republican Parties in America — and alternatives to just fusion voting for the major party candidates.

I know I usually vote third party — in 2016, I voted for Green Party candidate Jill Stein for President and in 2018 I voted for Libertarian Larry Sharpe for Governor. You can say the stakes were rather low in those elections — Andrew Cuomo was destine to beat Marc Molinaro for the Governors race, and the electoral college meant my vote for Jill Stein wasn’t going to change the election for president, with Hillary being the local favorite for deep-blue New York.

I think we need a small government party, one that believes in seriously cutting the size of government, while addressing the serious problems facing our country and our world — namely climate change and deficit spending. I want leaders who support a carbon tax, while cutting taxes and fees on investments and the ordinary commerce of life. I would support ending the tax on long-term capital gains, in favor of a strong carbon tax. I want politicians to represent me that want to cut police and military, to reduce the number of laws needing enforcement, and making life easier for average Amrericans.

April 21, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค . Cloudy and 41 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ It was nice earlier this morning but then it clouded up in Trump’s America. There is a south breeze at 13 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow midnight. โ˜ƒ๏ธ

Definitely started out quite nice โ˜€ but I knew it wouldn’t last long. But that’s fine, I’ll work inside today from home. I certainly have a busy day at work today and working from home means no distraction. No Zoom meeting today so I don’t have to shave before work which is nice but I may shower and get cleaned up during lunch. ๐Ÿšฟ Later on this afternoon I may run to the car wash just to get out as I get tired of being cooped up after working at home all day. That’s kind of why I prefer to work from Five Rivers or the library on the Wi-Fi to break things up. ๐Ÿ“ถPlus if I use my personal laptop I don’t have to worry about accidentally going to a personal web page or doing something like checking the weather.

Today will have a chance of showers before noon, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. ๐ŸŒฆ High of 52 degrees at 12pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. Maximum dew point of 42 at 1pm. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 20 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. 0.6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.5ยฐ from the due south horizon (-11.4ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 7:06 pm with the sun in the west (281ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287ยฐ) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:45 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:14 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 8:51 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 40 degrees. Breezy, 20 mph breeze ๐Ÿ’จ from the west-northwest with gusts up to 36mph. Today will have 13 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers before midnight, then a chance of snow showers. โ˜” Partly cloudy โ˜, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 21st. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1947.

Saturday looks sunny but cold and Sunday wet and very cold. โ˜€ โ˜” Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 58. Sunday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees. Honestly doesn’t seem like a really nice weekend for spring ๐ŸŒธ but I’ll continue to monitor the forecast and decide what weekend plans should be. I’m thinking about a Schoharie County trip โ›บ but maybe not this weekend.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Cinco de Mayo ๐Ÿค  when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 58 and 52 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.

Camel Hump

March 9, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Worm Moon ๐ŸŒ•! With the frost coming out of the ground, I bet earth worms are out and about. Mostly sunny and very spring like at 42 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a south breeze at 5 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Thursday around 4 am. โ˜ƒ๏ธ But a few days with the heat off and at least during the day time with the windows open. It was a bit cold when I opened the windows this morning ๐Ÿ”ณbut it was sure refreshing.

Today will be sunny ๐ŸŒž, with a high of 71 degrees at 4pm. 30 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 20th. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had sunny skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 81 was set in 2016. 6.9 inches of snow fell back in 1961.โ„

Solar noon ๐ŸŒž is at 1:07 pm with sun having an altitude of 43.1ยฐ from the due south horizon (-27.7ยฐ vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 6.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. Before you know it, your shadow will be as short as Mini Mike. The golden hour ๐Ÿ… starts at 6:18 pm with the sun in the west (259ยฐ). ๐Ÿ“ธ The sunset is in the west (265ยฐ) starting at 6:53 pm and lasts for 2 minutes and 55 seconds with dusk around 7:23 pm, which is one minute and 11 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At dusk you’ll see the Full ๐ŸŒ Moon in the east (84ยฐ) at an altitude of 4ยฐ from the horizon, 226,510 miles away. ๐Ÿš€ The best time to look at the stars is after 7:56 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies ๐ŸŒ„ and temperatures around 69 degrees. There will be a south-southwest breeze at 8 mph. Today will have 11 hours and 38 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 44 degrees at 4am. 21 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 4th. South wind around 7 mph. In 2019, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 28 degrees. The record low of 0 occurred back in 1996.

Today in 1959, Barbie doll makes its debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York. ๐ŸŽŽ Ever since then barbie dolls have had their heads eaten off by family dogs ๐Ÿถ and boys have had fun burning their heads off with lighters.

A picture perfect weekend on tap. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Typical average high for the weekend is 43 degrees. Kind of last weekend but only a few degrees cooler. I might do an overnight in Schoharie to check out that tiny home expo at NYPA Gilboa plant but it depends on what I’m doing with Save the Pine Bush.

๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผOnly 10 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!๐ŸŒน๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒผ

Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until Arbor Day ๐ŸŒณ when the sun will be setting at 7:51 pm with dusk at 8:21 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 50 and 40 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 63 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1962.

Spring?
