April 21, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Two weeks to Cinco de Mayo π€ . Cloudy and 41 degrees in Delmar, NY. β It was nice earlier this morning but then it clouded up in Trump’s America. There is a south breeze at 13 mph. π. Temperatures will drop below freezing at tomorrow midnight. βοΈ
Definitely started out quite nice β but I knew it wouldn’t last long. But that’s fine, I’ll work inside today from home. I certainly have a busy day at work today and working from home means no distraction. No Zoom meeting today so I don’t have to shave before work which is nice but I may shower and get cleaned up during lunch. πΏ Later on this afternoon I may run to the car wash just to get out as I get tired of being cooped up after working at home all day. That’s kind of why I prefer to work from Five Rivers or the library on the Wi-Fi to break things up. πΆPlus if I use my personal laptop I don’t have to worry about accidentally going to a personal web page or doing something like checking the weather.
Today will have a chance of showers before noon, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between noon and 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Some of the storms could produce small hail and gusty winds. π¦ High of 52 degrees at 12pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. Maximum dew point of 42 at 1pm. ποΈ Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 20 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 72 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 1923. 0.6 inches of snow fell back in 1947.β
Solar noon π is at 12:55 pm with sun having an altitude of 59.5Β° from the due south horizon (-11.4Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.5 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 7:06 pm with the sun in the west (281Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (287Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:45 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 8:14 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 8:51 pm. At sunset, look for partly clear skies π and temperatures around 40 degrees. Breezy, 20 mph breeze π¨ from the west-northwest with gusts up to 36mph. Today will have 13 hours and 41 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 40 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a slight chance of rain showers before midnight, then a chance of snow showers. β Partly cloudy β, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 21st. Breezy, with a west wind 16 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 51 degrees. The record low of 20 occurred back in 1947.
Saturday looks sunny but cold and Sunday wet and very cold. β β Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 58. Sunday, rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Typical average high for the weekend is 63 degrees. Honestly doesn’t seem like a really nice weekend for spring πΈ but I’ll continue to monitor the forecast and decide what weekend plans should be. I’m thinking about a Schoharie County trip βΊ but maybe not this weekend.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Cinco de Mayo π€ when the sun will be setting at 8:00 pm with dusk at 8:31 pm. On that day in 2019, we had rain showers, partly cloudy and temperatures between 58 and 52 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 91 back in 1944.
