Old enough to buy Budwiser 🍻 at the corner store and shop at the gun store 🔫 but too young for social security and Medicare by three decades. I really doubt I’ll be in Albany beyond age 50 because as much as I like the money 💵 and the promise of a good pension (if I ever return back to government service) there is a lot of the world left to explore 🌍 and places to live where the people and their government agree 👍 more with my values. I’m no conservative but I do look forward to a change beyond the limited horizons of New York. I watch too many videos off off gridders and cattle farmers on the YouTube. 📹

At any rate, if it was a serious problem I’d call my landlord 📞 and he’d have it fixed quickly. Nice thing about renting although the plumbing is constantly problematic here.

It really kills me how much paper garbage I get in my mailbox 📮 every day. Yeah, I have a milk crate where I toss all the non confidential paper trash into and I take it to the recycling dumpster at the park and ride ♻ every few weeks but by then the bin usually is already overflowing in my apartment and the paper recycle dumpster is pretty full most of the time too. And while they pulp and recycle the waste fiber a lot of it still ends as residue taken to the Colonie landfill. Recycling produces a lot of waste too. Even if I heat with wood when I eventually own my off grid property and use paper every night to start the fire I’ll always have an unlimited supply of waste paper for starting the wood stove just from the junk mail. 🔥 And half of that mail ✉ is the glossy stuff that is half clay and produces a ton of ash when burnt and is not good with the glossy coating to burn inside in a woodstove. I guess that the burn barrel can take care of it when I have my own land but it seems like such a waste to cut down all those trees just to burn off the carbon for no real reason. At least no Time Warner Cable ad today but I’m sure there will be one tomorrow.

Despite the cold, I didn’t wear a suit jacket under my outer-coat, 🕴as I left one in the office last week. Feels kind of strange not to be wearing it, but you wouldn’t know under the overcoat. Last year I left a jacket at work and had one I rode back and forth on the bus and to after work receptions, but I don’t think that’s necessary until it’s warm enough that I’m wearing the suit jacket back and forth on the bus without the outercoat, then I’ll reserve the suit jacket for that time of year.

The voltage switch works well, but often I find the shadows of the trees with the low sun angle don’t make up for the losses when charging a cold battery.🔋

Standing up against the war in Iraq is important.

I told my parents I’d meet them for breakfast tomorrow but it depends on how I feel come the morning. 🍳 If I feel better after a good night’s sleep I’ll join them then go for a hike – I’m thinking Kehler Preserve but maybe just Bennett Hill then run to the grocery store 🏬 before the snow starts and the library later to get a book or two to read 📖. I’ve been feeling good lately but I’m afraid I might have picked up another cold with a little congestion this evening. That could easily cancel out tomorrow. I’m hoping a good night sleep and a early rise tomorrow will cancel that out. 💤

Ever since lubricating my exercise bike 🚲 it’s been much quieter lately. I did ride it for about an hour watching a video of Keith Fink farm pulling a calve 🐮 and then a video on chopping a deer and what that Ohio Prepper guy is doing with his cabin. Demolition ranch too. 🔫 Fun stuff. 🎥

I may have to adjust the bike or ride it less though as I’ve been noticing a lot of stiffness in my knees after riding for a few hours, almost making the stairs a bit difficult this morning. 💪 I rode for over two hours last night but come morning I was not painful in my knees but just stiff. I don’t like watching video unless I’m on the bike 🚲. Got better the next few times up the stairs. Its been an issue since I got Lyme disease although lately all the other symptoms have gone away. The inflammation after the Lyme bacteria can take a while to go away I’ve heard. 🐜

If not for the snow I would definitely have gone out camping in Madison County ⛺ but I didn’t want to camp through a heavy snow storm even down not that far from the asphalt road. Not that snow fall is going to be that significant but it could be worse there and it adds up. I’m almost ready to say no more camping until April but it will all depend on the weather come February. Next week is the Pine Bush hike 🌲I’m leading and being a two day weekend with a good threat of snow ❄ I’ll probably stay in town. Makes up for all the heat I’m burning tonight to stay warm.

I walked down to the library for a while to return my books 📚. I was going to work on the John Wolcott project but I’ve had little ambition to do that much data entry after a busy day at work. 📇 He’s out of the hospital and feeling better, I’ll be back over on Friday. I really think I want to spend time cleaning up the existing sorted files 📂 and getting better labels 🔖 on the folders. Rode the exercise bike 🚲 for a few minutes but stopped as my neighbor came home and lately it’s been quite squeaky. I’m hoping I can lubricate and tighten it up and get rid of the noise. It is pretty old and hardly a quiet machine at this point.

Neighbors have a candle burning in their window as I go to bed. 🕯️ I sure hope they’re keeping an eye on it 👀 and not falling asleep with it at still burning 🔥. I actually am going to make sure that I know where my wallet is and laptop bag before bed in case my neighbor’s place catches fire. 🛋️ Its not directly connected to my building but if it caught fire, there is a risk of fire brands hitting my building so I would have to evacuate. I am all for using fire in a controlled way – its great for restoring habitats, heating buildings, cooking food and disposing of waste in rural areas – but it’s such a menace especially in the cities. 🌇 I’m sure it will be fine or so I hope.

It wasn’t a bad day at work, meeting went well. 💼 Busy today but I got another report finalized on my end of things. Making good progress. I got a nice complement from my boss to a client. Busy but so drab in that windowless office 🏢 with those cool white florescent bulbs. But I’m getting stuff done, getting results for clients.

I got bumped by a car 🚙 in a crosswalk today 💥but I wasn’t injured. I thought I made eye contact 👀 with the driver but I was kind of day dreaming and neither of us were looking. I bumped my hand into the hood of his truck but I never hit the bumper and didn’t do any damage. Got to be more careful crossing the streets. I haven’t had a close call like that in years – once before something similar happened in college – but I know it’s definitely possible to get in a much worse accident then getting brushed by a car. 🚶 Drivers just don’t pay attention. Neither do I at times when I say dream. 💭 Pine Busher Lynne Jackson and bicycle activist Burt Shou has been warning ⚠ me about this for years.

In my suit 👔I do see myself getting old and gray in parts and with only a little over 3 years until I’m forty years old I really should try to understand myself and my future better. 👴 Still researching counseling services. I should just make an appointment and its only $25. I don’t like it, I don’t have to go back. But I could become a better person. 👪 It’s great to save for my future but I really should figure out if I should be looking to do other things in the meantime. Old age creeps up suddenly and I don’t want to be at a place where I can no longer do the things I want to do, like moving out west to rural town, my off grid property or hobby farm. 🚜 Watching YouTube videos has me constantly thinking about all the other way people live and put food on their table. Some options will never be open to me, but if I have a better plan and more confidence I can open new doors for my future. 🚪I wish I could walk into a room, have a firm hand shake and be more charismatic and not a reserved somewhat crude hillbilly in a suit.

As I mentioned earlier, Iowa always seems like a fun state but not a lot of public land and land there can be super expensive due to amazing soils. 🌽 I follow Iowa Dairy Boys and a few other farm channels on the YouTube 🐮 and while some of the farming isn’t that different than here in New York with old tie stall barns, they also have some really big and very fertile fields that are uncommon except for a few deep valleys in New York like the Genesee Valley of Western NY. But those are tiny in comparison to the vast fertile Iowa prarie. They also get quite a bit of snow and cold in Iowa – they’re winters are cooler than New York but hotter on summer due to the lack of moderating Atlantic Ocean.
