Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 34 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. Not a terribly cold evening. There are 2 inches of slushy, wet snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️The skies will clear Wednesday around noontime.

I decided to make macaroni and cheese again for dinner with ample broccoli. 🍲 I’m trying to cut back a bit on portions lately as I’m not as hungry and I get stuffed too early and I could use to lose weight. I saved a lot for lunch tomorrow so I won’t have to make a lunch up in the morning.

Went down to the library for a while and did some research for John Wolcott’s papers project. 📄 I’m trying to make sure that I have an accurate index 📇 and description of things. Tomorrow after work I’m going back over to his house to do more work on it.

Got home walked to Stewart’s and got moo juice. 🐮 Had a cold glass of milk or two and some frozen blueberries and corn cereal for desert. Read 📖 for a half hour more of the Almost President book. I have going to wear my Don’t Tread on Me shirt 👚 to the library but I don’t want to cause trouble. I’m almost ready for lights out. Tomorrow I have to reply back to Lynne Jackson email 📧 I keep putting off.

February 10, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy Clean Your Computer Day 🧹! My computer is such a mess. Next Monday is Presidents Day 👴. There is a south breeze at 11 mph. 🍃. There is around a inch of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

Ended up catching the late bus to work. 🚍 I couldn’t find my comb and I made up eggs 🍳 and generally wasn’t moving well. The earlier bus was right on time and the late bus was running late. So yeah, I’ll be clocking 🕒 late. So be it, happens only every couple of weeks. 15 minutes isn’t the end of the world and I’ll just catch the evening bus on the top of the hill.

Cold and sunny Saturday then cloudy and warm for Sunday. :?But still a lot of time for that to change. Got most of the things I had on my weekend done. 📖 Did a fair amount of walking 🚶 and the new flux pen I got really helps on that cheap perf board that I got and wasn’t taking solder well. I can probably get a jar of flux to refill the pen later on. With the extra flux I should try the lead free solder too. Not great day at Schodack Island State Park, kind of gray but it’s always fun being back along the river there. 🐦

Tonight will snow, mainly after 11pm. 🌨 Low of 32 degrees at 9pm. 15 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 29th. Good morning! Happy Sunday β›ͺ ! Three weeks to March 🌨. Cloudy and 14 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ Calm wind. There are 2 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at around 1 pm. 🌡️

It’s a cold and overcast morning but I’m hopeful it will warm up soon and I’m thinking it might be a decent day. Maybe more clouds than I’d like but so be it. The solar panel did a nice job at topping off the batteries 🔋 after leaving my truck parked for a week. 🅿 Started real easy yesterday. I am very happy how the system is working on the truck now, I just gotta wait for camping season β›Ί when there are long days and lots of sun.

I wrote a nice little CDTA bus real time mapping app but I want to test it more and set up caching before I make it public. 🚍Really fast too, I was surprised. I really like it and my concern is that if I make it public it could become too popular and use a lot of Google Maps API calls and I’d have to pay for overage fees. Buts it’s definitely good for my personal use now. 🌐

Tonight will snow, mainly after 1am. ❄ Before then cloudy 🌨, with a low of 30 degrees at 8pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 27th. South wind 6 to 13 mph. 🌹🌻🌼Only 39 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼

That’s certainly less than 40 days. ☺ Always funny how when we get to the second week of March it seems like spring is coming quicker. I thought for sure that we would get a real arctic blast come February but besides a cool start to this morning this doesn’t seem the case.

As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until March 🌨 when the sun will be setting at 5:45 pm with dusk at 6:13 pm. On that day in 2019, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 39 and 14 degrees. That will be nice. Typically, the high temperature is 39 degrees. We hit a record high of 66 back in 2017. I think that was the year I went camping at Burnt Rossman Hills State Forest in March. Pretty cool well actually warm.

Good evening! Snow flurries but otherwise partly clear with a bright moonlit sky on the fresh but icy snow and 21 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a west-northwest breeze at 14 mph. 🍃 with gusts up to 29 mph 💨💨💨. The current wind chill is 8. There is a inch of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around 2 pm. 🌡️

Definitely a cold night with the wind but I turned up the heat before I left for work today and a few more degrees when I hit home so it’s very comfortable. With the mild weather all winter the heating bills have been quite modest. I stayed home and reheated the stuff shells mom made for my birthday 🎂. I rode the exercise bike for a half hour and then read 📖 more of that Almost President book. I played around with some code from the CDTA jquery stream but I doubt I’ll do much with it as I’ve run into a lot of cross origin issues with the browser and caching and fetching the data with my web hosting would be slow. Plus the CDTA website with the realtime map works well enough for me and I’m not that interested in sitting down and spending much more time coding it. 💻 I don’t like computer programming and writing software and scripts as much as I once did.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers before 11pm. Areas of blowing snow before 11pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 16 degrees at 6am. Typical for tonight. Maximum wind chill around 5 at 6am; West wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 25 degrees. The record low of -16 occurred back in 1950.

Tonight will have a close to Full 🌝 Moon with 98% illuminated. Looks so bright out with the icy snow everywhere. At 10 PM, the moon was in the southeast (140Β°) at an altitude of 65Β° from the horizon, some 231,587 miles away from where you are looking up from the earth. 🚀 At the state speed limit of 55 mph, you’ll make it there by August 1st. It’s actually quite close relatively speaking but still – Buckle up for safety! 💺The moon is almost as high overhead tonight as the late summer sun. The Snow ❄ Moon is on Sunday, February 9. The darkest hour is at 12:10 am, followed by dawn at 6:35 am, and sun starting to rise at 7:04 am in the east-southeast (111Β°) and last for 3 minutes and 6 seconds. Sunrise is one minute and 12 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 The golden hour ends at 7:45 am with sun in the east-southeast (118Β°). Tonight will have 13 hours and 45 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 32 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 25 degrees at 1pm. Eight degrees below normal. West wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. That wind is going to make it feel frigid and it will only get colder as night falls tomorrow. We’ll we were overdue for some cold. Winter lately has been coming late. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 45 degrees. The record high of 52 was set in 1925. 14 inches of snow fell back in 1895.❄

Not totally sure what the plans are for tomorrow. I have a did sweep the snow off Big Red but she’s covered with ice from the change over. I’m hoping the sun will quickly melt the ice in the morning. β˜€ I might still go to Johnstown for the outdoors show but that’s a long trip for a relatively small little show especially if it’s too cold and windy to go skiing or camping there after. I’d almost rather stay home and save the gas if it’s frigid. Might also go out to the folks house tomorrow rather than Sunday as I’m concerned about snow on Sunday evening again.

In four weeks on March 6 the sun will be setting in the west (263Β°) at 5:51 pm,🌄 which is 35 minutes and 31 seconds later then tonight. As the first day of spring approaches the sun becomes close to due west for the sunset. In 2019 on that day, we had cold, mostly sunny, snow showers and temperatures between 22 and 9 degrees. I wonder if our March this year will be so cold. Typically, you have temperatures between 40 and 22 degrees. The record high of 63 degrees was set back in 1974.

Looking ahead, Valentines Day ❀️ is in 1 week, 7 PM Sunset 🌆 is in 5 weeks, Spring 🌷 is in 6 weeks, 7:30 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 2 months, Good Friday ✝️ is in 9 weeks, May 🕊 is in 12 weeks, Flower Moon 🌕 is in 3 months, 8:30 PM Sunset ️⛱️ is in 17 weeks and Strawberry Moon 🌕 is in 4 months.

February 7, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Valentines Day ❀️. Rain, mist and 36 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. β˜” There is a northeast breeze at 5 mph. 🍃. There is a inch of snow and ice on the ground. β˜ƒ Going to rain all day until it turns to snow and then gets real cold. Hello, February. ️Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 2 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

I decided to walk down to the express bus 🚍 but it was raining or misting fairly hard. Not a nice day to be outside and it only is going to get worse. Reminds me of that one night I camped up on the Boereas River and NY 28 several years ago in December. β›Ί Icy snow and rain. That was before I had the propane heater and only a very smokey campfire to keep warm.

I knocked the remaining snow and ice off Big Red 🚘 in hopes things won’t be too much of a frozen mess come Saturday. Still not sure if I’m going to drive anywhere tomorrow, it’s going to be pretty bitterly cold with the wind but a fair amount of sun β˜€. I might just stay home and walk down to the library 📚.

Today will rain and sleet before 2pm, then rain and snow between 2pm and 3pm, then snow likely after 3pm. Temperature falling to around 27 by 5pm. β˜”β›„ Windy, with a northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west 19 to 29 mph. Winds could gust as high as 49 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 47 degrees. The record high of 48 was set in 2005. 12.4 inches of snow fell back in 1983.❄

I totally expect a miserable and slow icy commute home this evening 💦 but maybe they’ll close the office early or they’ll get a lot of salt on the roads to prevent icing. The good news is that I live in the city so not so far to go. If it’s bad and I don’t see the local coming I’ll take the local home. 🚍

The wind chill around sunset will be 11. β˜ƒοΈBlustery, 🌬 with a stiff breeze at 30 mph the west-northwest with gusts up to 52mph. Going to be frigid, especially downtown. I turned my heat up a few degrees before leaving home to ensure my apartment isn’t too cold by the time I get home on what will be the most blustery of evenings. Today will have 10 hours and 13 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 30 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow showers, mainly before 7pm. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 16 degrees at 4am. Typical for tonight. Frozen Swamp Above the Gulf

February 1, 2020 Morning

Good morning! Happy February 🌧! It’s February 2020 if you can believe it, soon Iowa caucus time for those Democrats in Iowa. I’m sure they’re tired of all those Elizabeth Warren radio commercials on the top 40 country station 📻 and embers of Joseph Biden mailers floating off their smoldering burn barrels 🚒 setting their pastures on fire. 🔥 I’m sure it will just make the grass grow greener after they spread more hog shit on them come spring. It is Iowa after all, God’s country, a free place.

I don’t care, I’ll probably vote ❎ for Bernie Sanders come the spring. I think democratic socialism has a lot of good ideas, especially limiting the power of the state in the criminal justice system and his idea of universal health care is good if I want to eventually retire early so I can focus on improving my own land. 🚜 Plus he’s from Vermont and probably toured a barnyard or two and isn’t afraid of dirt roads or the woods. 🌲Unlike the pretty boy 👦 in the White House who talks about loving coal while he poops on a toilet 🚽 made of gold.

Cloudy and 31 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁Calm wind. We got a dusting of snow but it sure is gray today. Must be because they haven’t removed the incumbent from the White House yet. Things will start to thaw out at around 8 am. 🌡️ Great more mud. 🐷

I made up pancakes and coffee β˜• for breakfast 🍳. A pretty good breakfast. Listening to Weekend Edition. Not a very nice day, very gray for sure. I’m chewing over walking out to Five Rivers Environmental Education Center 🐸 but I don’t know. I want to do some soldering projects, 🔬 finish up on the John Wolcott index 📇 and some other projects.

Today will have a slight chance of snow showers, mixing with rain after 11am, then gradually ending. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a high of 37 degrees at 12pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around February 23rd. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 18 degrees. The record high of 65 was set in 1989. 15 inches of snow fell back in 1898.❄

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 30.2Β° from the due south horizon (-40.6Β° vs. 6/21). The golden hour 🏅 starts at 4:27 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (240Β°). 📸 The sunset is in the west-southwest (247Β°) starting at 5:05 pm and lasts for 3 minutes and 9 seconds with dusk around 5:37 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the south (173Β°) at an altitude of 59Β° from the horizon, 248,379 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 6:12 pm. At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies ☁ and temperatures around 35 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 58 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 20 seconds over yesterday.

The fact that the sun is above 30 degrees angle and the calendar β˜€ gives me a great deal of hope. I really want to spend more nights in the wilderness but it has to be reasonably pleasant out, with the snow banks low enough that I can find a place to park. 🅿 I really miss the fires and camping in the wilderness. β›Ί It’s just not the same sleeping at home with the windows shut and just walking around the neighborhood🚶. Spring is coming! 🌸 But God willing maybe I’ll get out for a weekend in the wilderness as soon as next week, but only time will tell.

Tonight will have isolated snow showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 26 degrees at 4am. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 16th. Northwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2019, we had clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to -2 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1961.
