August 15, 2018 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 79 degrees in Delmar. There is a west breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 67 degrees. Between the warm mercury and high dew point, this is a sticky evening. The muggy weather ends Sunday around 10 pm. 😓

I went down to the park for a while until dusk 🌋 then headed home. I just brought my phone down there, sat on the hill and played with it watching some video until dusk at 8:30. Got home then decided to retire to bed next to the fan. I like sitting out back but sometimes laying in bed next to fan is quite nice too. I like to be asleep by ten at any rate.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy ☁, with a low of 70 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 68 at 10pm. Yuck. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight. In 2017, we had mostly cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1972.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 28% illuminated. It has set, it was pretty when it was up. The moon will rise tomorrow at 11:59 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night. The Strugeon Moon 🌝 is on Saturday, August 25th. The sun will rise at 6:02 am with the first light at 5:32 am, which is one minute and 4 seconds later than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 10 hours and 7 minutes of darkness, an increase of 2 minutes and 33 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 87 degrees at 2pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 70 at 11am. Light west wind becoming northwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies. It was sticky. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1936.

Maybe not a blue ribbon weekend but I’ll take it.😎 Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 68 at 6am. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 79. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6am. Typical average high for the weekend is 80 degrees. Still thinking about heading out to Schoharie County this weekend and the Adirondacks next.

Tomorrow I have to leave work early to pick up my eye glasses. 👓 I’ll probably just take the bus there. I think that’s the easiest option, the busses depart the shopping center every fifteen minutes for the evening rush.

In four weeks on September 12 the sun will be setting at 7:09 pm,🌄 which is 46 minutes and 35 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had heavy fog, fog, patches of fog, mist, mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 81 and 48 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 74 and 53 degrees. The record high of 94 degrees was set back in 1947.

Looking ahead, State Fair Opens 🎡 in 1 week, Last Sunset After 7 PM 🌆 is in 7 weeks, Halloween 🛥️ is in 11 weeks, Day After Election Day 🛀 is in 12 weeks, Boxing Day 🥊 is in 19 weeks and Inauguration Day 2021 👴🏻 is in 127 weeks.

Cedar River Flow Becomes Marshier

As you proceed west on Cedar River Flow, it becomes shallower and shallower, until it's marshland. It can be a little hard to paddle if you get out of the channel, but in the channel, it's pretty deep.

Glyphostate Controversy

Earlier I posted an article shared by the Skeptics Guide to the Universe on the recent controversy over the court ruling on Glyphostate aka Round Up weed killer and hay burner. 🔥The article noted the mainy factors that the court did not consider and the benefits of the product.

It’s easy to condemn all chemicals especially after we learned about the nasty spill over effects of DDT and some other chemicals that while relatively non toxic to humans can have enormous spill over effects on the environment.🌎 That’s why scientific evidence is important and something that should be considered with the totality of the evidence.

Too often people on both sides of the aisle use science more as a sword than a basis for informed reasoning.🏫 We shouldn’t be prejudicial but instead honestly lay out or values, concerns and interests. I can also understand why glyphostate is a useful product for conserving soils and avoiding plowing. 🚜But I can also understand that chemistry is a powerful thing,🍹 that may be having effects we don’t understand.
