May 2, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ There is a southeast breeze at 6 mph. ๐Ÿƒ. The dew point is 49 degrees. Nice fairly mild evening. A bit foggy ๐ŸŒ from the moisture in the air tonight. The skies will clear Sunday around 11 pm.

I went for my evening walk ๐ŸŒƒ. They had a game wrapping up at the high school ๐Ÿšธ so the lights were still on at the field. Bought milk and ice cream ๐Ÿฆ at the store, the $2.99 Stewart’s sale is ongoing. I rarely eat ice cream anymore but a sweet is good for a change. They are really aggressively promoting their ice cream sale this time.

I rode the exercise bike for a while ๐Ÿšฒ then worked on some code for the VMS which got slowed down debugging a buffer overflow. I’ve continued playing with the new GIMP which I like a lot. Also been playing with some energy data. I should do some reading ๐Ÿ“– but I really prefer to do that at the park.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 48 degrees at 5am. Five degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 18th. Southeast wind around 7 mph. In 2018, we had clear skies and it was very mild, actually downright sticky most of that hot spring night. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1966.

Tonight will have a New Moon. The Flower Moon ๐ŸŒ is on Friday, May 17th. The sun will rise at 5:47 am with the first light at 5:16 am, which is one minute and 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ„ Tonight will have 9 hours and 49 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 26 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers before noon, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between noon and 2pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 63 degrees at 2pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 27th. Maximum dew point of 52 at 3pm. South wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 83 degrees. The record high of 89 was set in 2001. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

Right now, possibly better weather to report. โ˜€ Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 68. North wind 3 to 6 mph. Maximum dew point of 48 at 8am. It seems like the forecast he improved again. Sunday, showers likely, mainly after 8am. Cloudy, with a high near 62. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 48 at 12pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 66 degrees. Not sure of my plans for the weekend now that my Aunt isn’t coming up this weekend. If it’s nice I’ll have to do something, even if it’s just a nature walk ๐Ÿšถout to Five Rivers.

In four weeks on May 30 the sun will be setting at 8:25 pm,๐ŸŒ„ which is 28 minutes and 14 seconds later then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 73 and 52 degrees. The record high of 92 degrees was set back in 1987.

Looking ahead, Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ is in 2 weeks, Summer ๏ธโ›ฑ๏ธ is in 7 weeks, Independence Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ is in 9 weeks, August ๐ŸŒป is in 13 weeks, Labor Day ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿญ is in 4 months and Last Sunset After 7 PM ๐ŸŒ† is in 22 weeks.

While I didn't camp here the last time I was up here, because I was concerned about the road back here being soft, and the breeze, it's still a beautiful campsite.

Political Leaders Should Stop Caring About Twitter – The Atlantic

Being active on Twitter has practically become part of the job description for some of the most influential people in the country. Any politician, journalist, or CEO who does not engage with social media gives up a precious chance to shape the conversation. And any public or semipublic figure who fails to monitor what is happening on the platform risks missing attacks or accusations that can quickly find their way into the headlines of national newspapers and the chyrons of cable-news shows.

Obligation breeds habit and habit addiction. The most active Twitter users I know check the platform as soon as they wake up to see what they missed. Throughout the day, they seize on the little interstices of time they have available to them—on the way to work, or in between meetings—to follow each new development in that day’s controversies. Even in the evening, when they are settling down to dinner, they cheer attacks against their enemies, or quietly fume over the mean tweet some anonymous user sent their way. Minutes before they finally drift off to sleep, they check their notifications one last time.

Last yearโ€™s rodent โ€œbumper cropโ€ means predator boom this spring โ€” Furbearer Conservation

If you live in the Northeast, you’re probably aware of what local biologists dubbed a “squirrel-nado” increased rodent presence last year. Based on current trends, I have some predictions as to what New England’s wild-woods may be in for this summer.

May 2, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday on this second day of the month of May. Two weeks until the Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ. Gray and cloudy with a few drops of rain here and there around 54 degrees in Delmar, NY. โ˜ Calm wind. The dew point is 50 degrees. Not much of a temperature change last night. The skies will clear Monday around noontime. Maybe. They are talking about a hot and dry summer but I take that as a grain of salt.

I made eggs for breakfast ๐Ÿณ and then walked down to the express bus ๐Ÿš. A bit damp and I wish there was a bit more sun but so be it. The bus was on time and I’m on my way to work.

Today will have a slight chance of showers between 9am and 1pm. Mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฆ, with a high of 62 degrees at 1pm. Three degrees below normal, which is similiar to a typical day around April 24th. Maximum dew point of 56 at 1pm. South wind 3 to 5 mph. Maybe a few breaks of sun late? Chance of precipitation is 20%. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 90 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 2018. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.โ„

I am glad it’s no longer a session day, ๐Ÿ‘”although I guess l things considered it hasn’t been a terrible week. I wish it would be sunnier and nicer but beggers can’t be choosers. Not ninty degrees today but at least in the seventhies. My windows are open again. โฌ› This weekend I should probably wipe the kitchen and bathroom ๐Ÿšฝ down with bleach so no mildew pops up with the wet.

The sun will set at 7:56 pm with dusk around 8:27 pm, which is one minute and 7 seconds later than yesterday. ๐ŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for mostly cloudy skies โ˜ and temperatures around 62 degrees. The dew point will be 52 degrees. There will be a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 9 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy ๐ŸŒฅ, with a low of 50 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal, which is similiar to a typical night around May 24th. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. In 2018, we had mostly sunny. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1966.

I added a low and high temperature function to the VMS sign I built at home. ๐Ÿ“Ÿ The next step is wire up and mount the outside temperature probe so I can monitor outside temperatures. Maybe this weekend.

As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 70 ๐Ÿฎ when the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm with dusk at 8:44 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 72 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 70 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1991.

Also, seven weeks until summer. ๐ŸŒžI’m looking forward to it although spring has plenty to offer in the wilderness. I still want to get to Moss Island during the spring months. I didn’t get my turkey tag this year as I never get enough time in the woods but I can certainly camp and fish ๐Ÿ  during the spring time. Nights are getting pretty late at this point but the black flies are certain to be bad soon. ๐Ÿœ DEET works fairly good, I have bottles and bottles of it. Even so, black flies aren’t bad at night as they dissappear then and they aren’t too bad if you keep moving during the day.
