July 2, 2019 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear and 74 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 65 degrees. Definitely feels muggy as I get my stuff ready for heading up to the Plains for the long weekend. The muggy weather ends Sunday around 7 am. πŸ˜“ Hopefully it won’t be so oppressive up north.

I got the kayak and most of my non parishable gear loaded up. πŸŽ‡ I decided against driving in tomorrow with the heat. While the tinted windows keeps the truck cap relatively cool, ninety degrees on a low humidity and sunny day means there will be a ton of solar radiation – which means that the truck cap could get hot, and that’s a bad thing with a 20 lb propane tank, ammunition, fireworks and a battery that sometimes off gases hydrogen. While there is some ventilation there it’s hard to keep windows open when parked in the city. πŸ…Ώ Instead I’ll just come home after work, load the coolers and dangerous goods and leave by six. The saltwater ice will last longer that way. Traffic should be lighter on the Northway by then.

Tonight will have patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 63 degrees at 5am. Two degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 10pm. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 74 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1978.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon πŸŒ’ with 2% illuminated. The moon will rise at 6:08 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Monday night with mostly clear skies. The Buck Moon 🌝 is on Monday, July 15th. The sun will rise at 5:22 am with the first light at 4:47 am, which is 33 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ„ Tonight will have 8 hours and 46 minutes of darkness, an increase of 46 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 89 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 7am. Hot and sunny day but only modestly humid as things go. Light northwest wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 94 degrees. The record high of 102 was set in 1911.

My plan is to be in Indian Lake by 8:30 pm and to Cedar River Flow by nine. I have my flashlights and electric lights ready to go so I don’t have any problems setting up in the dark. πŸ”¦ I’m not going to set up a fancy campsite, just the first open one I see for one night as I plan to move out to the Plains near Helldiver Pond or maybe farther west first thing on independence Day for my final three nights at Moose River Plains.

I want a campsite that is somewhat remote but also has a good view of the stars ✨ and lots of sun β˜€ for solar power. Plus hopefully a trail I can walk to and a good place to hang my hammock to read a book. I’ll take the kayak off once I get to that site, disconnect the connection to the alternator and be solar for the rest of the weekend. It’s possible that I’ll leave the truck with the engine off for multiple days. Then I’ll toss the kayak on with just two straps for the night I decide to fish and paddle on Helldiver.

In four weeks on July 30 the sun will be setting at 8:17 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 19 minutes and 4 seconds earlier then tonight. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 60 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 82 and 62 degrees. The record high of 100 degrees was set back in 1933.

Looking ahead, Last Sunset After 8:30 PM πŸŒ† is in 2 weeks, World Mosquito Day 🐞 is in 7 weeks, Labor Day πŸ‘¨β€πŸ is in 2 months, Constitution Day πŸ“œ is in 11 weeks, October πŸ›₯ is in 13 weeks and Election Day 2020 πŸ—³οΈ is in 70 weeks.

Analysis: Supreme Court gerrymandering decision could devastate NY Republicans | NCPR News

The Supreme Court’s landmark decision allowing state legislatures to gerrymander political districts along blatantly partisan lines was made by the court’s conservative justices, on a narrow 5-to-4 ruling. Chief Justice John Roberts concluded that “partisan gerrymandering claims present political questions beyond the reach of the federal courts.”

Translation? If you have enough political power, your party can draw the lines designed to favor your candidates as aggressively as you want. It’s a standard that Republicans have fought to defend. But as is often the case in politics, this victory for conservatives represents a double-edged sword. The precedent could be devastating for New York’s already beleaguered Republican Party.

Trump Says He’s ‘Never Had a Glass of Alcohol.’ These People Say Otherwise. – VICE

Donald Trump often claims that he does not now nor has he ever imbibed alcohol, explaining that he wanted to avoid the fate of his alcoholic older brother Freddy, an airline pilot who died at 43 in 1981. It has always seemed unlikely that Trump, who has regaled other writers with raunchy tales of partying in the 1970s at Studio 54, never tried an intoxicant. But sobriety has been part of the persona he peddles. Let everyone else get sloppy, the subtext goes. He wants consumers of the Trump brand and would-be lenders to believe he always keeps it together.

Special Me

I am so …. SPECIAL !!

There was a big a line at the SEFCU and the branch manager took me into his office and processed my withdrawal, while I got to sit in the comfortable chair. At least now I have money for buying firewood and ice cream at camp.
